I really like this Mike. I suggest you have another look at it with the thin vertical line that goes from top to bottom removed. Very interesting image.

    Symbiosis

So here is where I've landed after reading all of your comments a time or two and speaking to my photographer spouse. I love the eagle in the original post with the Ortin Effect and everything really, except the mans face and perhaps the sky. So I will be going back to the drawing board to find some middle ground, but get the same look as the eagle in the original. Thanks for a great discussion.

One other thing. I don't know why, but my whole experience in remote NW Mongolia in the fall of 2014 was almost surreal, especially the week I spent alone among eagle hunters. Their lives have remained constant and relatively unchanged for thousands of years. This is hard to find and I felt like I had passed through some portal into the past. Thus the use of dreamy effects on some of these images from that "trip". Looking back on it, it seems at times like it didn't really happen......Now it sounds like I'm on a different kind of trip. :-)

I have gotten two suggestions regarding my processing. Jack, even your criticisms make me smile. So I am going to post the same image without the Ortin Effect to see if it is more appealing. For the record I did nothing to sky and background to blur it beyond using the Ortin Effect. My focal length was 300mm and as you can see it's still quit blurred. However, if it doesn't look right it doesn't look right. Have a look. Thanks

    To the moon and back

I love this photo!. I do think it would be even better if her face and the dogs were a bit brighter.

    Fog-and-reflection

I like your photographs a great deal Madeline. However, I think this one would be stunning if the boat was not present. I am not suggesting you rubber stamp it out (although if you have the patients....), but maybe see a little differently. Great stuff.

    Leading the way

I love everything about it....well one small thing I haven't made up my mind about yet. Very creative and I do think it would make an amazing image without you in it as well. The thing I can't make my mind up about is the little pointy thing protruding out of your left shoulder. Can't decide if this is distracting or adds to the surreal aspects of the image. Great shot.
  19. <p>Thank you both for the responses and the answers match which is always good :-)<br> I have downloaded the new profile. I don't know whether I misunderstood Ilford's explanation of the code or something else, but I thought the media type code was at the beginning, but it is in fact at the end.<br> Thanks again.</p>
  20. <p>I just did something stupid. I uninstalled my Epson R2880 software from my computer and installed my new Epson SC600 printer and software. I wrote down all my settings for producing B&W prints the way I like, but I forgot to write down the media type for my preferred paper. I think there are more choices than with the R2880, but I can't be sure now. I use Ilford Prestige Gold Fiber Silk for both B&W and Color. I have three opened boxes of this paper(different sizes) but no longer have the little instruction sheets in them. Ilford's site has nothing, much to my amazement on this setting or because of my inability to find it. My choices are Premium Photo Paper Glossy , Premium Photo Paper Semigloss and Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster. I think I was using Premium Photo Paper Glossy for years, but I just don't remember. I will experiment if there is not a source with this information. Thanks for any help you can give me.</p>

  22. <p>Thanks for taking the time to respond Howard, but unless I'm missing something, I don't see a solution for me in your answer.</p>
  23. <p>Ilford has annoying code like names for their downloaded icc profiles. I found a programe called "Change Description" a number of years ago that allowed me to change the names of Ilford profiles from their complicated codes to something like Ilford Gold Fiber Silk. Well I just purchased a new epson printer (SP600)and downloaded a profile from Ilford and my old program for chamging the name isn't working, keeps giving me an access denied message. Anyone one know how to do this? I haven't done it in several year, because everything was as it needed to be on my old R2880.</p> <p>Thanks Paul</p>

    The Gift - Take Two

Thanks Jack. I have softened the image a bit from last weeks color post of the same image. I have also softened the color image and like it better. I think when a digital capture has as much fine detail as this one, they don't reproduce so well, especially on the small screen, but I think in print form softening helps as well even with a larger print of say 13x19. To do this I am moving away from using the Ortin Effect and adding more of a slight glow.
