1.
Sorry, not trying to highjack this thread, but, i had a conversation with a rep fron Zeiss concerning the focus shift on the Zeiss Sonnar ZM, i love the lens and have no complaints i just wanted to have it adjusted to be optimized for focus at F1.5, as some from the factory came optimized for F2.8 and some F1.5, apparentaly after 2007 they are all optimized for f1.5, but during the conversation he mentioned they are calibrated for M FILM cameras and not digital.
I then asked, does the M9 and M3 have different flange focal distance difference? He said yes, that is what they have found measuring them in their factory in Germany.
My point is range finder focus varies from camera to camera and lens to lens so unfortunately not all lenses will focus perfectly.
But i have found the Leica lenses are much better in this respect.
This is why some lenses fail some sharpness tests, for example the Nokton 1.1 lens.
It experiences back focus, but once you get to know each lenses focus quirks they are all quite sharp.

 2.
I thought i would share my results of my summicron v5 and my summicron rigid, i shot these with a M9, i shot on angle so as not to have focus problems.
I have found in my previous lens comparison tests my results varied due to my focus error, and lens focus shift error.
By the way i have found almost all lenses have a certain amount of focus shift, so focusing with rangefinder for comparison tests will not give accurate results on flat planes.
I have found testing my 50mm lenses (more than 12), that they are all center sharp and really only differ on the edges, even the poorest FED lenses are center sharp.
Once again i have found that the only reason any on my photos do not appear sharp is 100% due to focusing and not the lenses, unless they are completely hazy or scratched excessively.
Mild haze or cleaning marks only seem to lower contrast and not sharpness ive found.
Another observation i have had is the biggest difference between all the lenses ranging from my oldest 50mm lens the Leica Xenon (uncoated) to my Summicron v5 or my new 50 Planar zm is contrast, due to the coating used.
As to the images i have here, the v5 seems slightly sharper, and the other tester also noted the rigid/dr is slightly warmer.
V5 has slightly higher contrast
Images are 100% crop of center of photo

00YMTO-338317584.jpg.042d1d193664e86f239336ded7f5a534.jpg

 3.
Definately consider Gus Lazzari, he has cla'd all of my Leica and non Leica camera's along with my lenses, he is top notch and is also a frequent pnet contributer.
