You'll be very happy. The camera is awesome. When I broke mine, I bought another one on e-bay. That's how much I love it.

James, can you please explain to us how someone stole $5100 from you on e-bay? I am sorry that it happened, but would like to try to avoid such situations. Thank in advance.

I think that the k110d is ~$100 more. For some people it's worth it, for others it may not be.

I think people should be aware of this deal. It is a Pentax k110d with the kit
lens, for $370 shipped (no taxes).

If I wanted a dSLR, I think I would go with this deal.

I started reading the preview of E-410 on dpreview.com. First, I noticed that the camera can only bracket 3 shots (versus 5 most other dSLRs can), with +/-1 stops (!@#%&$). One of the biggest limitations of dSLRs is their poor dynamic range, and bracketing can remedy the problem. However, Olympus really does not want us to have that option (which is all in the software anyway). In the next page I read that the viewfinder remains the same as before (tunnel vision). That is when I stopped reading the preview, as I will not consider buying this camera.
Is Olympus really serious about making cameras for photographers? If/when I do decide to buy a dSLR, Olympus gives me no reason to consider their cameras. That's too bad, as I like good competition.

dcresource.com just posted some full size images as well. They seem very good given the lens range. I like the fact that the camera has RAW and 28mm wide angle.
-
Looking at the completed auctions on ebay, they are going for 700-800 new.
-
The ISO 6400 shots are unbelievable.

I don't see any of these cameras better than my Coolpix 8400. No wide angle and RAW mode. I am not interested in any.

Nikon 8400 ($350 on ebay) has a 24mm lens. With a wide angle adapter it goes down to 18mm.

I think the main problem with this type of a camera is that you cannot make a compact camera with that size sensor, because the larger sensor demands a larger lens. Maybe I am wrong, but I think it's true. For example, Sony R1 is much larger than Nikon 8400, and their main difference is the sensor size.

How about a 4th option:
10-22, 28-105 f3.5-4.5, 75-300 IS. I know the 28-105 lens is not L, but it's a great lens.

The last 30 sec are great!

I recently sent them my camera. They said it was not worth fixing, and sent me the camera and the refund.

Thanks for the (short) report. I love the pics.

Hi Rob.
I have tried the downhill assist and do not like it. I like to be in control of the speed. Also, you should definitely get the 4WD. I even needed it in my driveway with 1 ft of ice/snow. It also helped me get out of some deep sand.

Hi Rob.
I did not change the tires on my xterra. It has easily gone through nasty roads or deep sand without a problem (it's really amazing). We don't sleep in the truck, as there are three of us, but one person could easily do it. I chose xterra over FJ for several reasons: better rear seat and access to it (for my 3yo), better visibility in all directions, stiffer ride (better handling), much better premium audio (the rockfort-fosgate system is unbelievably good), and availability of side impact airbags without being bundled with other stuff. I absolutely love the truck and its capabilities.

You can find plenty on ebay. They range from $650-850. Some are new and include the warranty.
-
I would recommend Fuji F30. The photos (including macro) that it can produce are amazing.
-
I would also recommend ebay. I recently bought my Nikon 8400 (store demo) and love it. It looks and performs like a brand new camera. If the seller has a good reputation, and you pay with paypal, I don't see any problem at all. Good luck.

I was in your situation a few months ago, and after careful research decided to buy a Nissan Xterra Offroad. I got it and love it, both off and on road.
-
Robert, if you can tell us the size of your photos in pixels, we can answer your question. I don't know what medium quality on 20D is.
-
I think your only options are cameras from 2-3 years ago, such as KM A2, KM A200, Canon Pro (or something like that), Nikon 8400 and 8800. They can be had on e-bay (new or used). I wish that companies continued to make them, but they want us to buy their dSLRs I guess.
Getting an almost-new Coolpix 8400 - any quirks or concerns?
