1.
Hey everyone! I've been a photography hobbyist for the past 10 years, I made my bones with a Nikon FM-10 and recently upgraded to a D40. To my D40, I added a 50mm 1.8d and SB-600 flash. I did a couple of pro-bono weddings, and then a few as a second shooter. I've never rented a body, but I have rented a few different lenses like the 18-200, 70-200 2.8 and even a fisheye.
Now, I think it's time to upgrade, but the question is to what? After much research and examining my budget, I have narrowed my option down to the D700.
What I love about the D700 is the FX sensor allowing me to push the ISO exponentially further than my D40. I've shot in enough low-lighting situations to know that high ISO can be a life saver. This is obviously a big expenditure and I want to know if it may be a little overkill... or perhaps underkill?
- Should I be concerned that there is only ONE CF slot (as opposed to the twin slots on the D3)? If so, how do you cover your a$$ to make sure there is no data loss? With the D40 I have been uploading directly to my laptop at any available free time during the shoot.
- Does the D700 have a built-in host transmitter to fire off my SB-600?
I want to hear from you guys, the non-D700 users as well as the D700 users. What do you like about the decision you made?
Thanks!
Bill
