Michael,
nothing wrong with the current lens, but they made the 60mm macro and it is an updated lens, no?
why not a new 50mm macro with usm and updated? why not? the 100mm macro has been updated twice and the original was ok, right? but it was updated. so why not? i think they could improve on the 50mm macro lens.

Steven,
i heard about the possible 24-70 f2.8 IS, that would be really nice also.

has anyone heard anything about Canon coming out with a new version of the 50mm macro that can be used on 1D cameras? 50mm or 60mm is fine but it does need to be updated from the old model.

any thoughts?

yes, i knew the link was for the 1d mkiii but after looking at that video i looked at the 1ds mkiii video. i already have a 1d mkii so the 1ds mkiii makes more sense for me. again, thanks for the advice. they are amazing cameras.

Steve,
now you have done it. i watched the video and i have decided to purchase the 1Ds MKIII. this is much better for my own personal photography. i can not express how much i appreciate your posting the video link.

much appreciated, Kyle

1D series is a "brick with a brain" as i call them. i love them. they just keep going. a used one would be a great addition to your kit. you also might consider a new 7D"even if you have to wait and save up to purchase".

100mm macro, it is NOT limited as to what camera you use it with and it is excellent. it even has two models to choose from.
as Andy mentioned you might also add the 85/1.8. it is a legend in its own time.

Steve,
much appreciated. i read the specs as you suggested and i am VERY pleased with my choice. i have used the 1D series cameras only up to now and i love the "brick with a brain" as i call them. with film cameras i owned only the 1 series with them also. i love the heft and the reliable essence of the 1 series. my 1D MKII will make an excellent backup camera for my 1D MKIII.
BTW, Happy Holidays to everyone on the forum and as always thanks for the excellent advice and comments.

i just purchased the 1D MKIII. $2000.00 "new" using my am ex rewards points.
i appreciate all of your advice and comments.

how is the image quality on the 1D MKIII at 10.1 MP's?

its that time again. new camera time and i am a 1D MKII shooter. the 1D MKIII is on my short list. i know about the new 1D MKIV coming out but i am interested in the 1D MKIII. have the "bugs" been worked out yet? the 7D is also on my list. i searched other post on this topic but i would like more updated comments based on recent use of these fine cameras.
i photograph the following, macro - portraits - wildlife - my artwork - landscapes - cityscapes
my lenses are L series.
btw, i love the 1D series of cameras. feels right and it is what i am use to using. yes, i am leaning towards the 1D MKIII.
i realize this is not a right or wrong choice but i always learn so much from your comments and any thoughts you might have would be very appreciated. i need to decide.

i just spoke with someone at J&R.com. they said the MKIV would be in their stores in jan. not sure if that is true but that is what they told me.

my 1D MKII is a workhorse. the camera waits for the photographer to decide how to make the picture a great picture. the newest and most amazing cameras can easily take snap shots. technique and experience can make the most out of a "good camera" or a "great camera". the 1D cameras are a breed unto themselves.

they are both great. they are both different. i would say purchase the 24-70 first and use it for a while "great all around lens". then purchase the 85 f1.8. the 85 f1.8 is not expensive and it is a jewel but they are both different and if you had both i am pretty sure that you would use both. i love my 24-70. i purchased the 135 f2 L as my portrait lens which is a GREAT fast lens. i often consider purchasing the 85 f1.8 anyway because it is such a nice lens and it gives it's own LOOK to portraits.

100mm 2.8 macro is my lens of choice most of the time.

-

i prefer these for portraits along with the 135mm 2.0 L.
85mm? two great models to choose from.
70-200mm L? 2.8 or 4.0 - two models also.
i have not used the 35mm L 1.4 but it sounds like a GREAT lens.

-

both are good. i love my 1DII but why not get a new 50d. the 50d has more current technology. i would go for the more current model but either way they are very good cameras.

it is nice to have and it does help alot but keep in mind moose petterson shot many a great photo with a 300 2.8 handheld and the photos were tack sharp. technique? yes but then again like anything regarding technique you make adjustments based on your equipment. if you NEED IS then that answers your own question but if you take great photos without it, well there you go. the never ending quest for the perfect camera kit.

i am purchasing the 1.4x mkII for my 300mm f4 L lens. should be a nice combo.

for copying artwork,

exactly what i need the lens for. i just hate to purchase the current model and have canon come out with "the new" model. it would be nice if they did update the lens. i would love it.
