1.
i am only saying, for me, the 1dsmk3 is the best camera for my needs. the IQ is outstanding and not soon to be a relic. its build quality is superb and its battery life is very impressive. being a ff camera is another huge plus, for me. the 1dsmk3 can be purchased used at a very reduced price. concerning its worth to you or anyone else, that is a personal choice, that aside to me the 1dsmk3 is worth the price tag. but then again, thats me.
good luck with your choice, i am sure it will be the right choice for you either way. ;)

thank you, they range from 8x10 inches up to around 40x50 inches. most of those were photographed with film and scanned. the camera was an F1 with 85 1.8 lens at F8. the lighting, i dont remember. the others were photographed with my 1dmk11 with assorted lenses at F8 to F16. all shot jpeg with lighting purchased from b&h.

i appreciate your information and you summed it up beautifully. the 1dsmk3 is the camera for documenting my work. nice example photo. also the ff is excellent. as you pointed out, the 1dsmk3 and the 1dmk4 work great together. my 1dmk2 along with the 1dsmk3 should be a nice combo also.

take care, Kyle
my website shows the work that i do and gives you some idea of how each painting needs to be documented. www.artist-kyle.com

  4.
Scott,
Much appreciated. I have a 1DMK2 so I can use that for fps. The 1DSMK3 I would use for HQ images of my paintings in order for me to archive each painting. Before I pull the trigger either way I wanted to be sure that the 1DMK4 might not also be a good choice for that purpose because of the 16 MP. The fps would be a bonus if I used it for nature photography also. The ff of the 1DSMK3 would be a nice compliment to my kit.

Any other downside so far with your choice of the 1DSMK3? It must be an awesome camera and I have heard only great things about the IQ. Thanks for your input.

  5.
Hi Eric,
You are right, my question was vague. I just wanted to know if they are arriving yet and what do people think of the new MK4. There has been a lot of talk and anticipation for the new 1D camera. What are the initial thoughts so far from people as they receive them?

And yes, one reason I ask is because I am considering a purchase myself. I am debating between the 1D MK4 and the 1Ds MK3. I understand the overall differences and it is a tough choice for me to make. For what I need they both could do the job. If the MK4 has the IQ I need then it might be the better choice for me. I just wanted some feedback as people on the forum actually start using the camera. First hand experience from this forum is always very helpful.

  6.
Bob, thanks, i just meant in addition to what we already have read on forums and what has been said on youtube etc. i am just excited about the camera and peoples comments about it have varied on other forums.

Michael, that is excellent! please let us know your thoughts. very exciting!

Steve, much appreciated.

  7.
does anyone have any additional info about the 1D MKIV? any comments?
as always, your thoughts and comments are very insightful and appreciated.

  8.
my 2 cents worth, i have seen some beautiful photographs taken with the 1dmkiii. i love the 1d and 1ds cameras. they are robust and built to last. i would say that if you want a fast focusing camera and the 1dmkiv is not an option at this time, go for the 1dmkiii or a 7d. i have been looking at alot of photos recently, bird photography and the photos taken with the 1dmkiii look amazing. the camera will do alot of work for you. you already have a 5dmkii. not a shabby kit, 1dmkiii and a 5dmkii.

  9.
nothing wrong with the current lens, but they made the 60mm macro and it is an updated lens, no?

No, it's not an updated lens; it's a new lens. It doesn't replace a previous 60mm lens; it's an addition to the product line.

you are correct, i meant updated in regards to the older 50mm macro that is old technology. imo canon almost has all of their lenses updated for the newer cameras and the digital technology. if they do redesign and update the 50mm macro it will more than likely better the older lens and for people like myself it would be an instant purchase.

Nathan, "beautiful photo".
