@Cliff Calhoun -- a few noob questions:

what is the difference between the scan/digitize of a print film versus the scan/digitize of a slide film?

Switch to slide film. It will force you to learn proper exposure, unlike print film. Also, it is less expensive to shoot, overall.

what is the connection between slide-versus-print and different exposures; and what do you mean by "proper" exposure?

If you want to submit your work for publication, most editors will demand slide film.

why will editors not want to deal with print film?

thanks for the responses .. but i wouldn't know how to remove the prism, or pull out the viewscreen -- do these require special tools and skills?
Richard, i am noob confused: "holding open the shutter" means, i assume, the "B" setting on the timing knob; are you saying that i should then keep the shutter button depressed and look for fibers -- where would i look for the fibers?

-

a myriad of fibers recently began appearing in the Nikon F4s viewfinder.
removal of the lens revealed that the fibers are not on the lens, not on the mirror, and not on the groundglass prism.
i cannot afford a repair, so i solicit suggestions as to where these fibers might be located, their source, and whether i can fix the problem.
i see an occasional fiber on the scanned negatives but i cannot be certain that their source is the recently-appearing viewfinder fibers.

it sounds to me that she is intmidating you -- and she sounds like she's experienced with it. the ball is now in Lee's court to decide whether he will allow this party's lawyers to steal by using this time-tested technique.

I am trying to learn how to operate a newly-acquired Nikon F4s. The benign-neglect approach, which has been exclusively heaped upon me for months, and by many, is absurd, worthless, tiring, and expensive (need i say more?)
so, i am seeking anyone in NYC willing to peripatetically meander with me and help with the learning burden.
if you harbor ulterior commercial interests, then i do not want to hear from you (i've already heard from you enough!)

i need help learning to operate my newly-acquired Nikon F4s; might there be someone in NYC who can assist me? I can barter with tangible or intangible resources.

might there be anyone in nyc willing to teach me how to operate my newly-acquired F4s?

Intitially, please answer these queries:
1. why would i set focus mode to 'manual' if i am using an autofocus lens?
2. what is meant by "maximum aperture slower than f/5.6"?
3. "aperture" versus "effective aperture" == ?
4. how to use diopter.
5. autofocus modes: when to use "single servo" and "continuous servo"?

(... and many, many more!)
thanks.

beginner's question re macrophotography. i have seen the relevant posts, in this and several other forums, but they lack the fullness -- comprehensiveness and examples -- that a beginner needs.
to the quick: how to coordinate the concepts of macro-lens, bellows, extension tubes, reverse rings, &c.
as a concrete example, why would i need to combine an expensive macro-lens http://www.adorama.com/NK2004AFDU.html with a bellows and/or reverse ring and/or extension tubes? and what features would each of the 16 permutations produce?

i recently bought (from ebay) a nikon f4s. it was sold without the plastic cap for the MB-21B's "remote terminal" port. where can i buy this simple cap? i have not yet tried local (NYC) camera stores, such as Adorama or B&H, but if they do not carry it then i will need to post here anyway.

Kodak Killing slide film?
in The Wet Darkroom: Film, Paper & Chemistry
Posted

a few noob questions:
specifically why is kodak ceasing slide film production, but maintaining print film production -- it is my understanding that professionals prefer slides?
the preceding post lists Professional slide films and Amateur slide films -- what is the difference? as an amateur, why would i not want to shoot the professional film?
