1.
I'm an amature photographer... I've been contributing to a site similar to photo.net w/photos and other forum activity. The site owner/designer/administrator contacted me to see if i would be willing to allow him to use some of my photos for the home page that he is currently in the middle or redesigning. I wouldnt mind doing this.. It would be good exposure for myself... Is there anything i should watch out for, any recommendations, or any advice anybody can give to me before i jump into something like this? Any advice would be greatly greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much in advance!

  2.
I am looking to have some high quality scans made of around 100 different 35mm color frames for enlarging. i'm looking to contact a few different pro labs and ask some questions before i choose which lab would serve me best. I was hoping someone w/experience with negative scanning could offer me some questions i could ask the different labs i call, and also, what to watch out for.
ex: is there a point where there is too much resolution?
i've seen some comments elsewhere about..... "wet scanning is the way to go"?
i also know negatives have grain, and it may be hard to eliminate or just impossible to eliminate, but are there techniques that are used to reduce the reducibility of grain?
just looking for some good info and some good questions to ask to help me make the best decision, so i dont walk into this process blind and come out totally disappointed...... or broke lol!
any and all responses are greatly appreciated!
thank you
karl

  3.
hi Dave..
i just purchased one my self and set it up last week. do you like yours? how are your final prints? such as an 8x12"
it seems easy enough to use but am not happy w/the way they are printing out. i scan my negative, adjust it w/the nikon software, save it to thumb drive and i finally took it to the corner walgreens for a test run. i wanted an 8x12. i got it back and it seemed extremely grainy. grainier than what it looks like on the computer monitor or even the original 4x6 when i got it originaly developed. when i bring my negatives in to be developed and enlarged to an 8x12 i get much smoother clearer results... and i use very fine grained film so i know it's not the film. have you had any issues with excessive grain noise w/your printing results? i'm assuming that looking at the date of your post here that you should be well settled into your scanner and results by now.

Thanks, I will keep it covered. Good tip.

Luca,
Thanks for the response. I'm scanning Kodak Royal gold 25 which has very fine grain.. unfortunately, the ls2000 does not have the grain reduction option on it. (GEM)
Les,
i answered your questions above.. I'll look into those programs. thanks!!!

Robert,
Is Vuescan something that takes the place of the nikon software? or is it a seperate program that adds another stop along the way aditional to the nikon software?

Thanks again for all the responses and time taken!
I'll see if i can get a pic up today.. yesterday i tried to get an example up and every time i hit "submit", it would say "error 505" or something like that and would not let me upload. i just tried it again today and same thing. cannot upload a photo.

  5.
Thanks for the response John..
i believe i am. here is the info.
crop is:
W:2,504 H:3,737 in pixels
output size is:
8"x12" inches
26.8 MBytes
scale:866.95%
and resolution is:
311.4 pixels per inch
when ever i change the output size, it directly changes the resolution in pixels. the larger output size i shoot for, the less pixel size.

are you saying i should not mess w/output size and just scan it and send it to my editor program?
thanks again, and forgive me for i'm new to the digital world lol.

  6.
I hope i'm in the right forum...
I just bought a refurbished Nikon LS2000 Film Scanner.. It produces super sharp images... the problem i'm having is that i cant seem to find a way to smooth the grain.. the results of the graininess are acceptable on the monitor but when taken to the lab for printing it's super grainy. is ther eanyone w/one of these scanners that has had this problem? and if so, is there a remedy?
Thank you in advance for any responses.
7.
thank you Les and Andrew.. i realized that exact concept when Les mentioned he over exposed his shot because he was w/out the ND filters... as soon as i read that it hit me right on the head... that it slows the shutter speed due to the lack of light... i knew this concept too from playing w/ my graduated ND filters but for some reason never aplied it to this particular instance...i dont know why i didnt think of getting a full ND filter before.. it's funny how the mind sometimes misses the most logical/easiest answer while thinking it has to be a complex answer... thank you Less and Andrew for helping me remove the blinders lol!

i still have the problem though of having this roll of 100 speed film shot at a 25 setting that i need to get developed.. is there anywhere you may know that will pull process that i could send it too? as i said before, fuji does not do this anymore...
thanks again guys!
8.
i'm new to this site and it looks like a great source of information... everybody seems very helpful here..
i am getting back into shooting photos again and i found my favorite film has been discontinued.. which was kodak royal gold 25 (that should tell you how long i have been out of it).. i liked the slower speed of royal 25 because of the small grain and the effect it had on running water.. so now i am turning to fugi realla 100. i just pulled the setting of my camera down to 25 speed to get the longer shutters i used to get w/the 25.. my local camera shop/developer is now out of buisness so i cannot bring it to them (who were very knowledgeable about this kind of stuff).. there are no decent developers in my area so i went to the local miejers convienient store who has the "send in" service to fuji.. i asked the photo people at miejers about developing the 100 speed film for 25 and they told me that fuji will not be able to develop the 100 to compensate for my 25 speed i shot my film at.... they told me that they use all digital at fuji now (and everybody else) no longer use paper processors anymore....
my question is what would happen if i had the 100 speed film shot at 25 and had fuji just run it through as 100 as the people at the miers photo booth said they would...? would i see any difference in the final print if it was developed for 100?
does anybody know of anyone who still uses the paper processors anymore?
and a thank you in advance to those who respond! any information given is greatly apreciated!
thanks
