<p>Agreed. Supply and demand. Leica has had a resurgence in popularity which is kind of a bad thing when you don't upgrade your supply chain with it....AND this is even more crippling when you use rare elements in the creation of the glass that goes into the elements of your lenses which are the selling point of your system. This is why Leica's prices have risen to simply balance supply and demand. You will notice almost everywhere, almost all lenses are out of stock. This is also one of the reasons there is a very healthy used market for Leica lenses.....Having digital cameras (M8/M9 and variants) might have been sustainable on some level, although I know from experience, I've been waiting for a 50 Summilux since I ordered my M8 when it was released, that there were shortages at this time, it has been exacerbated by the popularity of Leica's digital offerings. This is not to mention the digital offerings from all these other annoying companies which are capable of having Leica mounts adapted to them (thanks to adapter rings) which allow you to use M glass on even more digital cameras, which again contributes to a supply shortage, which sucks. Thank god RED's come up with a Leica M mount adapter for the Epic and Scarlett as well. <br>
Voigtlander is in the same boat to some extent although they seem to have stock in all but the very most in demand lenses, their faster primes. They are a more obvious choice for someone who wants better quality then M4/3 (or similar mirror less) camera systems can offer, but don't want to pay Leica premiums (or I guess Zeiss?). The Voigtlander solution allows them to get fairly cheap glass that allows them to do more with their small digital systems. Also, coupled with Leica's lack of glass, some people have looked to Voigtlander and Zeiss glass because simply, its available and while these have not seemingly strained the Voigtlander supply chain, they have given the company the opportunity to increase their prices, and people will keep paying as they become more adventurous with their little cameras. </p>

<p>I don't see any reason why they would be inherently longer...but that really doesn't matter because they can stick out at both ends, the width and depth are more important. </p>

<p>The Mamiya, according to this example from Adorama which is what I believe you ordered, it says it takes 3" gelatin filter holders, which are something entirely different then the resin or glass filters used by the Lee system (Lee can also use gelatin filters.....) but gelatin filters, are almost like light filters that that they would use in a theatre (actually they are the exact same thing and that is why companies like Lee also have lighting divisions as well as filter divisions since a lot of them share the same products in different sizes) these filters are considerably more fragile and you have to mount them yourself into holders which don't come with the filters or the lens hood. Its just more work, in the end and probably a loss in quality to some extent (but there will be someone who says this about everything if you wait long enough)...you can get fine results from it, its just going to be a more trying experience in the end. </p>

<p>Why didn't you just get a Lee filter holder? they have adapter rings (wide angle and standard) that fit all of those lenses, thats what I'm doing. And Im pretty sure the 80mm LS is 72mm the last time I checked mine... </p>

<p>So I am working on a review for my website (<a href="http://www.brianhirschfeldphotography.com/" target="_blank">http://www.brianhirschfeldphotography.com</a>) about the B&W films currently available in 2011. I am going to use a set up still life subject in controlled lighting with a Mamiya 645AFD and 120mm f/4 Macro MF, after checking exposure with my DB I will take one image under exposed, one properly exposed and one one stop over exposed for each film, the rest of the roll I will take out and about and get some real world samples with. <p>For what you want I wouldn't bother with the Sinar, Hy6 isn't exactly still being developed. In terms of fast flash syncs you will need Leaf shutter lenses, these are offered from Leica for the S2, Phase for the 645DF curretnly a 55mm, 80mm and 110mm all f/2.8. They recently announced the 150mm 4.5 (don't quote me on the speed of that one), a 75-150mm zoom LS version and a 240mm LS lens. These won't be availbale for a little while though. I am pretty sure that most if not all of the current Hasselblad lenses are either leaf shutters or capable of syncing at all or most flash speeds. Personally I currently use a H3Dii-39ms and have not found the ergonomics of it to be that great. <br>
I demoed the S2 and it is very nice, just not a developed system like the Phase 645DF is in terms of lenses and accessories. The Leica has superior optical performance but its sensor may be lacking depending on your work. I decided on the IQ180 because I like my Mamiya 645AFD body and I already have all of the lenses from 35mm ~ 300mm so it seemed like a good choice for me. <br>
Leaf digital backs are sub-par if you ask me. build quality and software are not up to par. oh and the battery is external so its not as compact as it looks like it is in all of their pomotional materials.<br>
I don't see any true value to true focus, but to each his own. You have to use either demoing or renting the equipment to really get an idea before you go for a big investment. You can read reviews of a Leaf back / the s2 / hasselblad / and phase one on my blog if you want. I don't know if I'm allowed to provide the link here so admin don't shoot me but its brianhirschfeldphotography.com and I have fairly in-depth articles for each. </p>

<p>I'm not the most careful with front elements so I like to have a filter there just to keep myself safe. I'm getting the vibe that it doesn't really matter which I use. I was operating under the assumption that premium brand might have some quality behind it in this case. </p>
<p>also Rodeo Joe they do have some Schneider lenses that I've invested in....and they ARE German, and I use enough Leica that it can balance out ;) </p>

<p>Hi, I have a borrowed/rented B2 1200r. i charged the battery and it turns on, I plugged in a acute head and this is where the problem starts. The modeling light won't turn and it it won't fire. I have the flash power set to 50% and the same for the fine adjustment dial as well. the switch in between the two sockets is set at A (1/1) and modeling light is on on the acute head as well as set to contionous on the pack. Any helps would be greatly appreciated because this thing is heavy and I would rather not lug it back in to the city any sooner then I have to. Thanks, <br>
