1.
I'd like to ask something, hopefully fresh and somewhat relative to all of the above...
Alfred Stieglitz, Ansel Adams, Weston, Cunningham, etc, etc...how did these folks break into the landscape world of photography, begin to do galleries - and make a living off of it? I've read Adams' Bio, and he was a driven man that pretty much ignored his family (including his wife, who, one wonders why she even stayed with him) - while spending months on end in the wilderness photographing mountains and rivers. When he wasn't out doing that, he was schmoozing "important" people in various cities to get gallery spots to open up. Is this still even doable in today's economy?
I've done two shows - one at a small airport where I had 20+ landscapes hanging in the main seating area, and one in a bank foyer. I sold 4 framed prints, which I was happy with. But, the overhead involved in doing the shows right + framing costs, finding clients that won't take 20-30% of what you sell, advertising, transportation, etc - how does anyone make a living off of this? I've found it easier to do as an occassional hobby, but I'd love to know if anyone has any theories on how to make a living off of this.
2. Ok, this is odd. I've been experimenting with night shots, and I've left the

lens open for say...30 mins with the f-stop either at F11, or F13, and out of

5 of the pictures I snapped, 2 had these really weird pink spots show up on

the top left hand corner of the image. No idea where this comes from. It's

pitch black in my backyard at night. You can't even see your hand in front of

your face, so...no light polution. Not even from a neighbor's porch light.

    Anyone got any ideas?

  3. 1) It appears, that if you create a private folder by using a negative number

when creating the folder, the folder itself does not show up in one's

portfolio. However, pictures inside the folder *can* show up on one's

    biography page.

    Is this normal?

    2) I'm seeing that some of my photos have small white dots on them. Any ideas

as to what may be causing them? Image size? Or, could it be the software last

used to save the image? I use Photoshop, and normally it doesn't give me

issues like this while displaying images off the web.

  4. I bought a trigger release to allow my Nikon N50's main lense to

open / close without physical intervention as it were, however I can

not for the life of me figure out how to get the camera

into...whatever mode it needs to be in in order to allow the release

to work with the camera. I do not have a manual for the unit. Anyone

    have any ideas?
