  1. Good evening All,

As the title states, I am contemplating either getting an Imac with the specs below for about $3,500 OR an NEC

PA271w-bk 27-Inch( which I read is about the best monitor for the money) with calibration gizmo for $1,300 with

another laptop / desktop (Any suggestions as far as either would be greatly appreciated but it has to be Apple)

    A little background...

I am an amateur photographer and been doing post (Photoshop / Lightroom 4) work using mainly an 13" Macbook with

8 gigs etc... but recently acquired a D800 and the file size is bringing that baby to a very slow crawl.

So,any advice as to what some of your guys in my shoes would do will be greatly appreciated

    Thanks for your time...

    Pascal

    Imac

3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz

    32GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4X8GB

    3TB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5

    OR

    NEC PA271w-bk 27-Inch + ?

  2. Hello guys,

I will be going to the above cities and surrounding areas next May for about 6 days in each with a D300 and D 70 and a bunch of primes.

I enjoy shooting lanscapes and buildings.

Pix of people aren't really my thing but I might make an exception this trip.

    Question I have is:

Can someone who has been there give me some advice as places to shoot other than the usual tourists sights?

    Thanks for your time....

  3. There is a museum in the middle of the woods just outside Kyoto called "Miho museum" designed by Pei which is

    interesting to take pix of.

Also, outisde of Hiroshima is Miyajima which is quite beautiful and popular.if you decide to go,go early because it's qute

    popular.

Kyoto train station itself is quite interesting and colorful and from the top,you have a great view of the city.

    Enjoy!

  5. I have traveled the world and been living in Japan for the past year and a half and I can tell you that

Japan is the safest place to travel.Personally I dislike(hate) suitcases of any kind, I have always traveled

with a backpack big enough to carry my camera bag in it(2 DSLR, a couple of primes and 2 zooms and a

heavy duty Manfrotto).Hostels in Japan are like Motels in the states but way safer and cleaner.I wouldn't

worry too much about my gear as long as you take the usual precautions.BUT buy your gear in your

OWN country, you won't save any money buying it here although they'll give you a 5% discount when

    you show them your passport.

Besides trains, there are buses you can take which are cheaper but also slower...

Most people understand SOME English if you speak slowly but have a hard time speaking it.

Learn some polite phrases in Japanese just for show...

Enjoy your trip Japan is a beautiful country...
