Merry Christmas Everyone! I'm not sure what category this belongs in
but because it's a holiday theme I thought "events" was most
appropriate. I took this in Bronson Park, downtown Kalamazoo. The
ornament is mine (I brought it with me) but the lights are what's in
the park. The ornament's lighting is from a white (or clear) bulb on
the string of lights that I strategically hung the ornament next to.
Also, this photo draws inspiration from the work of Dustin Diaz on
Flickr. (I tried linking to his profile but this site wouldn't let me.
It seemed to think I was trying to link to my photo stream.)

This photo was originally taken under those orange street lights so
common in most cities. But I reduced the white balance all the way
down to 2000 (in ACR) to get the initial blue hue. Then I played with
the contrast, saturation and curves in Photoshop to get the final
results you see here.

Although I'm not an environmentalist and I personally believe man is
only partially responsible for global warming (at best), I still found
this sign interesting. So I took a picture of it and here it is.
Taken in downtown Lansing (literally a block from the Michigan State
Capitol Building).

I took this photo a few weeks ago with my little G10. I did do a fair
bit of manipulation of white balance, contrast and saturation (and
vignette) but the composition is not manipulated at all.

This photo was kind of an accident. (Aren't they usually?) I was in
Milham Park (Portage, MI) trying to captures images of birds but I
wasn't having much luck. So I started to leave and on my way out I
came across this scene. So I snapped off a few shots and this is what
I ended up with.

When I shot this it was 3:30am and -3° F (-19° C)! On top of that, it
was a 1.5 hour drive round trip... But this shot is something I've
thought about for a while so when I thought the skies were going to be
clear in South Haven (MI) I packed up my camera and headed out there.
I got there just in time because clouds were starting to roll in. This
photo was taken looking due west, across Lake Michigan. The small
hills in the foreground are actually mounds of ice at the edge of the
beach (or I think a little further out). I think they form from a
combination of surface ice washing (or pushing) up on shore and the
waves crashing over them building up even more ice.
