Nikon d810 is a remarkable camera the best in its class, my hope for d850 is high, specs show that it would be magnificent.

Reducing two slot to one is not good, just to balance in favor of D500 and taking out one good ( and sometimes must) advantage looks simply illogical. Also no battery grip option is sad.

Frustrated...you bet I am.

Peter I truly understand what you are saying, A silver gloss look in a well made silver gelatin print can never be seen with inkjet pigments. -
How to write an introduction mail to a potential client?
Asad Ali replied to alan_kovarik's topic in Business of Photography
My suggestion would be to build a good Facebook page with your portfolio and then send a post card with your page address mention in it (like an informal marketing mail) as suggested by Manuello. However its very true that un known mailers get least attention. Better to be introduced by someone to that particular client you want to touch. One more suggestion is that spending a little on advertisement on Facebook or google yields more attention than old method of mailing. -

Its a wise move by Nikon, i think they would shift their R&D and investments to the professional high end products and is the right thing to do. Logically thinking fast lenses, high sync speed lights, better sensors and most of all better connectivity is the way to survive against the rapidly improving smart-phones.

<p>Hi Andrew "I didn't said that it should not have the <strong>aperture control</strong>" meaningless with the G series lenses neither did I said it should be manual focus. Nor any kind of missing element which makes the photographer handicap in tough situations, that's why I quoted the example of <strong>Steve McCurry</strong> and one of his most successful picture "<strong> the Afghan girl"</strong> taken with the <strong>Nikon FM2</strong> a simpler, fully manual but capable camera of <strong>that</strong> time. In a refugee camp with hostile situations that <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghan_Girl">picture</a> became a master piece of both Art & Photography and fully shows the connection between the Photographer & his Camera.<br> What I said was a fully manual camera i.e no P.A,S. etc. but with essential features like <strong>ISO,Aperture,Speed</strong> and the capability for <strong>external</strong> speed light.<br> You see the whole philosophy of such a camera was to give the photographer the easier controls which he or she <strong>used most</strong> at the <strong>advance level</strong> of his or her career. The simplicity with the very basic and easier controls for today's competing and demanding photography.<br> Why I refereed D810 is because of its higher megapixel and its cost effectiveness vs D4s or D5. Another beauty of the D810 is its base ISO 64. <br> For example lets take weddings or event, as the sensors gets better and better and low light sensitivity with lesser noise has improved a lot, maneuvering <strong>ISO</strong> with <strong>fast lenses</strong> and using <strong>speed</strong> and <strong>aperture</strong> <strong>all creatively</strong> has been a standard now.The human element in photography can not be given lesser priority either. My suggestion was <strong>not</strong> an idealist's gizmo but a practical & beautiful (<em>which a Df is</em>) camera which give essential and easier controls with simpler but effective options.<br> The photographer should be able to do better and easier, concentrating on his or her work more effectively with a classic beautiful look like the Df. </p>

<p>One of the Nikon's legendary camera was FM2 in eighties. <a href="/nikon-camera-forum/00XqtK">link</a> When I first saw the Df, it reminded me more of the Nikon FM series. Those were the cameras for photographers who were suppose to use them in fully manual mode only. Very simple and very capable, with one dial for speed only. But now with the time so changed I think Nikon D810 had taken that exact place.<br> In my opinion Df2 if provided with D810 capabilities rather than D5, with simpler options , and of course with a lesser price than that of Df was introduced, would attract more of those photographers who want a simpler and a capable camera.</p>

<p>How about an in camera calibration like exposing a color checker and then "the camera" processing that image with adjustments of everything like color, saturation, contrast and white balance. Something like dng profiles do but not on the computer but in the camera on the spot.</p>
