5.
Fantastic shot Laura , love the faded reflections in the background. Well done.
Bill Boyd, love the pelican. Can't wait until the white ones return here .

Bill Jordan, lovely colors to compliment the egret.
Rick DuBoissson, love this shot. Lovely detail and the foreground perch and background really compliment the colors of the bird and make that orangish color really pop.

  8.
Been playing around with a lensbaby . This is a shot of a Bush Katydid Nymph happy eating the Mexican Sunflowers. This was taken with the lensbaby soft focus lens and micro converters.

  9.
I use the method show in this video by Lens Rental.

  10.
Took more than 5 minutes, most of the time spent waiting for the birds to show up and then land in a good spot :)

  11.
I was never happy with the loss of image quality using the 1.4II on the 500mm f/4.
I am much more pleased with the 1.4III on the 500mm. The autofocus is a bit quicker .
Here are a couple of shots using the 1.4III on the 500.

    Beyond 200mm

Another recommendation for the 300mm f/4. Fantastic lens, sharp and quick. Pair with it with the 1.4 TC and you have an amazing 420mm with little to no loss of image quality. It is fast enough for birds and small bugs in flight . Note: the latest 1.4 TC III is not compatible , get the 1.4 TC II.
  13.
Good Day everyone Lots of Gulf Fritillaries this year in the garden From the looks of it , there we be more to come.
D800 500mm f/4 with 1.4 TC

  14.
My garden has been my "field" due to heat indexes in the triple digits. My thoughts have been why is it so darn hot. When trying to shoot insects in flight I prefer to use the 300mm with 1.4 TC. Easier to chase them and still remain at some distance.
Miner Bee approaching Mexican Sunflower.
D800 300mm with 1.4 TC f/8 1/1600 ISO 3200 ( the flowers are shaded so bumped up ISO to keep shutter speeds up)

  15.
Rick, stunning shot. Glenn, love the dew covered moth.

  18.
Hello everyone !
This Gulf Fritillary Butterfly is the first I have seen this year. It takes this common name from its migration over the Gulf of Mexico. Hard to imagine these beautiful delicate looking wings making that journey. As you can see sometimes the journey takes it toll on the wings.
Hope you enjoy
