    Svetlana,

Very unique perspective. I really like the B&W with the splash of red. I would be interested in seeing a crop where the umbrella is not so centered in the shot.

    After the Storm

          2

This shot was taken in Frenchboro harbor, Maine, right after we picked up

our mooring, for the evening. A steady rain had just stopped and I was

struck by the delineation of the storm clouds retreating and the emerging

    blue skies. Comments/suggestions appreciated.

    Sabrina,

An interesting photo, to say the least.  Despite being one who does not gravitate to pictures which are heavily Photoshopped, it none the less caught my eye.  The one piece of feedback that I would like to provide is IMO the high-heels on the model are a distraction and take away from the over-all feel of the scene.

    Best Regards

  1. All of the very strong edges, supplied by not only the various structures, but the tree line in the foreground, are perfectly balanced by the soft flowing lines of the smoke. The sense of movement, but yet stillness, makes for a very pleasing composition. The shot makes me feel as if I am looking at a still taken from a movie set. Jens, you have a good eye and a very nice portfolio.

When I saw the smaller image of the shot, it caught my eye because I was curious as to what the odd looking "clouds" were that seemed to be floating around in the middle of the picture. Upon viewing the larger image I was struck even more so as to how out of place and unexplainable they really are, in the context the photo is presented in. In this instance, flipping the picture over served to make the image very surreal and for me, not very appealing.

When I first looked at the photo, the rays of sun streaming thru the mist really captured my attention. But as I continued to view the image, I was left wanting something to focus on and hold my attention. Alas there was nothing to be found. Reading thru the comments, I was struck by the number of people wondering about the "see thru" tree trunk. I believe if you look closely at the image you will come to realize that the diagonal tree trunk is actually the shadow of a branch in the right of the image. There are many strong shadows in the image and this is one of them, making the branch appear, by coincidence, to be a tree trunk. The bricks that appear to be visible thru the branch are being highlighted by lens flare.

The warm tones of the lighting provide a unique feel to what otherwise would be a cold picture. I particularly like the bold black of the hand rail against the white background, it captures your attention and then you find the smaller "framed" picture w/in a picture, inside the hand rail. Beautifully done!

I love the asymmetry of this. The two people on the right grab your attention immediately and then when you see that they are looking in the direction of the empty chairs, it takes your mind to wondering why? Every picture tells a story and this one does it incredibly well, since there are so many possibilities for the answer. Well done!

A very moody photograph, well cropped. I have to agree w/ some of the other critiques in that while I love the gradation from dark to light, I find the ending white a little too strong. I would like to see a smoother gradation from the first tree to the last one, with some gray tone being brought in. Over-all a beauitful image and one you should be very proud of.

The imagery kinda stopped me in my tracks and invited me to explore it. What struck me as a little odd was the sharp detail of the man holding the suitcase, contrasted to the softness of detail in the brief case. And that on the brief case, left to right, the sharpness wasn't consistent. Very minor points though. The image itself shows great imagination and creativity. Very well done.

Powerful imagery. It grabbed my attention, but as someone else mentioned, once I looked at the larger view, it left me wondering what was the context of where/how the shot was taken. So if I were shopping to buy, I would move on. In studying the photo a bit longer, it appears as if you have rotated the image and the ceiling is now the right side "wall".

Maria, I love the color transitions. It is definitely a "Fun" photo. Is it in fact a dandelion? I shot a plant just recently in Colorado, that looks similar but is about 4in in diameter. I have it posted for critique in the nature category, under the title "Natures Fireworks"
