1.
I do 3000 and while I didn't read through this, I don't personally keep RAW files past one year of any session. I sell via IPS and if they do not purchase the item then it is deleted anyways so that is not a huge deal breaker for me. It does save on disk space and keeps things neat and tidy. I would keep the RAWs though of any image provided to them with the exception of a wedding.
I understand this thread is a couple of years old now so some of the info is a little outdated but saving RAWS indefinitely is a total waste of time.
That exception for me would be commercial work - or if you have a running plan with a private domestic session that they would be returning to purchase these images up to five years.

  2.
Hi there,
I opened up my CS5 this am to work on a couple of pictures and was horrified to find that everytime I opened a new picture up it showed up only orange and yellow in my monitor. I checked and the original's are fine, they are for some reason being opened up like this in PS and I am not sure what to do to fix it.
Please help! I can't do anything until this is fixed!
Thanks
Suzie

  3.
How do I turn off my D700 flash when I am trying to get my SB800 to be my primary and only source of flash for my portrait? I have tried many different combos according to the literature on the internet, but no matter what I do, my on-camera flash continues to fire every time my SB800 goes off.
Thanks in Advance.
4.
Hi Everyone,
I am looking to get a softbox for my SB800 flash and I have no idea where to start for off camera flash.
I do a lot of on-location photography and would like to have this as an option.
I also don't want anything excessively bulky or terribly expensive as I am on mat leave and the budget is looking a little drained.
Thanks in advance,
5.
Wow! Thanks everyone for your thoughts! I was not sure if anyone would respond.
The last comment is really interesting around copyrights, and yes - the bride and groom both signed the contract. Ironically, the only actual answer to my question was "double" the price of the picture. :)
Many ethical issues were presented in this discussion and I really appreciate all the points of view that was expressed. The fact is that this couple was very difficult to work with all day and the bride has been rather pushy since that day. I did take down the pictures out of respect and empathy for her wishes, but it kind of irked me.
The pictures were not distastful or embarassing - rather they showed a perfect bride getting ready for her day.
I only do this part time and my 'other job' is one where people face consequences every day for poor decisions. I am aware that I own a business (hense my actions) but how far does a photographer have to extend themselves when they have ensured that they have covered their interestes by having the couple sign a contract?

  6.
I shot a wedding in the summer and the pictures were some of the best I have ever taken. The bride signed my contract allowing me to use any of the pictures from the day on my website.
She and her fiance agreed and signed the contract (prior to the wedding of course) and now she is asking that I take them down off my site because she felt they were too "private" to use.
I am curious to know what an acceptable amount would be to charge her to purchase the rights to the pictures as they were given a disk with all the pictures on it. As they are asking me to no longer use the pictures for any purpose, I feel that their only option is to actually purchase the photo's themselves and then I will delete them from my hard drive.
I am really interested in knowing what people charge for the rights to the pictures. They ended up with around 450 and only paid me $1000.00 as I wanted the experience and photo's for advertizing.
Thanks
7.
I am trying to find a company such as Mpix but here in Canada. I know something MUST exist but I cannot find anyone except small companies which are not bad but have questionable websites.
I absolutley cannot afford the $30.00 shipping in american when I only need a couple of prints made. The fact of the matter is that I ordered pictures last weekend with 2 day overnight shipping and it has been a week and still not received them.
Can anyone help me out?
Thank You
8.
I am an intermediate photographer and have realized that I have gone as far as I can without lighting. In

the next year I would like to purchase some lighting for weddings/family portraits when it get's dark.

p>I am not opposed to saving up and buying some good gear, but I want it to be reasonable. I need some s

uggestions of what to get to make dancefloors illuminated and faces' clear of noise.

  9. I have a couple of questions from all the great responses I got.

    1. What is a FF Lens?

    2. I do shoot weddings and trying to move into a more professional position with my photography. Will the D700 give me what I want?

    3. Why would I need different lenses with a D700 or is that mearly a preference thing? I will be getting new lenses this year for sure, but I need to know how much more I am going to be looking at shelling out on top of a new camera.

    4. What kind of lighting equiptment would be good to start with for someone struggling with the darkness of reception halls at night?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

  10.
I was thinking about the 700 but I wanted to know if I shouldn't just save up for the D3. What is the difference between D300s and D300?
I also shoot with a 50mm f1.4, 18-135 f3.5-5.6 as well as a couple of others, but I primarily use these two.

  11.
Hi Everyone,
I am looking to get a new camera next year and currently am shooting with a Nikon D80. I love my little camera but I am really starting to notice its weaknesses, primarily when shooting low light, especially at weddings. The noise and overall picture is pretty crappy and I would like my next camera to handle these situations better.
Can anyone offer any advice? I don't have millions of dollars to spend but I would like a good camera.
Thanks
Suzie

  12.
It just seems that other people have less of a problem with their D80's and I wanted to double check that I did not miss something that was not extremely obvious.
I appreciate your help!!

  13.
Hi Everyone,
Here is a question for all of you. I have been having a very hard time trying to get my camera to focus on the whole image rather then just a small section of it. I have a Nikon D80 and usually shoot with a 1.4f 50mm lens however I seem to be having this issue with all kinds of lens'.
I am not sure if a setting is off on my camera or if I am just not understanding fully. Any help would be very appreciated!!!
Thank You!
14.
I have been having serious issues with my Nikon D80. I take pictures that I think are in focus, however after I check them on the computer they are not as sharp as they need to be. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but it is driving me nuts. I have tried fiddling with the settings hoping that a faster ISO or shutter speed would correct the problem but it is not. Can anyone please help me determine what is causing this?
Thank You!!!
