UWA

Yes Shun, I currently own a couple of d300's and a d70s that just converted for I,R so the 3 are capable of handling

    the lenses.

    UWA

Im interested on an UWL for some landscape photography latelly, and found myself debating what should i get?

The lens will be mounted on a crop sensor camera and the nikkor 12-24 f4 or tokina 12-24 f4 II both interest me. I can get them used

for just about US 100 difference. Any experience on them?

  1.
Richard talks my language! that is what I mean. at least you know you have a Leica that cost the same as feeding ten poor families from your kingdom for a year. but what the heck,, is a real special edition!! I have been told from very good sources, the sultan of Brunei took 3 almost very good pics by Bruneise standards before replacing it for his next favorite toy, a rollerblading capuccino monkey from the amazonian jungle. Its in danger of extinction just like Leica is! but at least you have one of a kind!

  2.
This special edition fake ostrich Leica is just a lame excuse to give you a reason why to want it. what happened to the real special editions? like high eye point designs, luftwaffe edition or special edition lenses made with radioactive materials like the APO Lantars, or the Takumars, Aero Ektars... then you can actually say something when they ask you why you spent some ridiculous amount of money.. what's so special about your lens?? well errrr.. is radioactive, it can give you eye cancer if you shoot long exposures but absolutely no fringing and totally Apochromatic, also you may need a special license from the department of state to use it. or a Ferrari America you need to already have 3 other cavallinos rampantes in your garage to order one of the 50 in production then you are talking special.
What made Leicas like the M3 so great was the great German Mechanical engineering, clean design, reliable simple and made to last for ages of use and abuse.
But Leica special editions these days are all about white letter imitation Hermes edition and fake ostrich Neiman Markus. Seriously?

  3.
I much rather love the "special edition Holga" with duct tape and elastic bands to hold the body together in the hands of a young college creative mind, than a Leica in the hands of a snob. the best street photog I know used a beat up m3 all stripped down to the metal. it was all about the pics not the camera.

  4.
I am seriously surprised on the fact that everybody is talking about the d7000, when in my opinion is "just" a good answer to the competition lineup, and considering the fact that is the latest tech but in two years will be out dated just like any other piece of equipment.
Yet no one has paid real attention to what in my opinion was a very long awaited lens, the 35mm 1.4 with a very high price tag and optics that are supposed to be stellar, what is wrong?? am I alone in this boat?? I want to see some pics!

  5.
Ok now, as for the d7000 I think its a good move on nikon's side as an answer to canon's line up, don't see it as a replacement to the d300s, more like an step up from the d90, lets see how long it takes for Nikon to stop production for the already 2 year old model although they claim the d7000 its a total different class, (good marketing move, but in reality hmmm I pretty much think it's a d90's replacement). it seems to be a great camera but the AF system and the burst rate would make me steer away from it.
The sb700 also sounds great but I need stroboscopic capabilities and the sb800 suits them perfectly.
Now!! the 35mm 1.4 that is something I would really, really, I mean REALLY need, Finally they come out with it, unfortunately at a price tag $1400 dollars over the sigma 30mm 1.4, must have some optics out of this world.... would LOVE to see some photos to find a reason not to want it.
As you can see I have my ANS in check.

  6.
Tom Mann, I like people who is Honest and to the point, but i think is better for her to find her own style replicating a look can be easy with some help, finding a personal touch can take more time and would be more rewarding............. but that is just my very own personal opinion, (the diplomatic one) .... ok now. Maylis tell us which tweak you like the best and why.... :)
Regards.
JART

  7.
Balance the whites, check skin color, saturate a bit, fix vibrancy, black should be black whites should be white so fix the levels, make the whole pic a little lighter, You have plenty of pixels on that pic so if composition wasnt right to start, go ahead and crop a little, the eyes are the most important part in this case place them on an important spot.
8.
I think and respectfully tell you that this is seriously RIDICULOUS!. shoot what makes you happy... but for a person to post this type of VS threads just makes me wonder,,,, are you a photographer? go shoot a Diana or a Holga you will still have the same doubs and problems you face right now. dont waste time.

  9.
Kevin I've had the opportunity to shoot with the A850 and personally think is a great camera, good for you, just shoot, take great pictures and remember some "Canon FAN BOYS"wont consider anything different than their beloved "brand" and that should not be of relevance in this case, aside is the fact that you happen to post in a Canon forum!
Happy shooting!

  10.
A good option would be the Nikkor-Noct 58mm 1.2 , its designed to be shot at 1.2 and render sharp light points, but if budget is not really a problem,, and I mean really really really, go buy a Noctilux 50mm 0.95 and get a nikkon mount. TADDDDA!!
But what I would really do with that money is buy a D3X and get the Nikkor -Noct. good for you that can do it!

  11.
Great camera, congratulations! you will be very happy with it. dont forget to read the manual its very important if you want to really understand to use it at its full potential. just becarefull on page 356 there is an OGER hidding and it bites if you wake him up! :]

  12.
I think Alastair understands perfectly the point but I find sometimes this threads to end up on endless pointless discussions, if I tell the OP wha is the "sharpest lens with the better workable distance for his nikon mount camera" then it becomes a subject of budget or something else. the question would have been better formulated as: Sharpest and least expensive nikon lens for macro work"
I echo this proposition keep what you have get some bellows or a d700.

  13.
just try to listen. the 105 with 1.5 crop factor will become a 175 aprox, very narrrow for some purposes but on the FX format would be a much better proposition, the Kiron 105mm 2.8 is great and the voightlander125 apo lanthar is also great.

  14.
The lens you need is called "Kiron 105mm" the Lester A Dine version comes with a flash kit to mount on the front of the lens and was and is still used as a dental and forensic lens, you can only get it now secon hand since Kiron was a subsidiary of "kino Japan" and its already gone. you can get a Nikon mount copy for about US.500. and in my opinion is worth MUCH more than that. just cant get new ones any more. If you are lucky enough to find one from a retired surgeon or dentist or C.S.I, buy it, theese people tend to take very good care of their equipment.
