  2. Quite a sobering sight: One unlucky juvenile elephant who fell victim to the dietary needs of the lions. Unlike in the documentaries that you can see on TV, these lions were quite well behaved: They didn''t fight over the food, they just took turns. Chob

    River crossing

Hi Paul, I would have never known unless you had told me. I'm honored!
  10. We saw this family of lions on the morning of Oct 15, 2016 feeding on a zebra. Later that afternoon, they had disappeared from the immediate neighborhood, and their zebra kill had been stolen by a pair older, more experienced lion siblings (a brother with

    Staring us down

On that fateful day, Oct 15, 2016, we ran into a pride consisting of two adult females and four cubs. The reddish-grayish color of their coats are the result of them rummaging through the interior of a zebra they had killed earlier that morning. This litt

    Fast food dinner

Wild dogs are the most successful hunters of all predators. They catch their prey 90 times out of a 100 times. Nonetheless, they are critically endangered all across Africa. On this occasion, they caught an Impala antelope who fled into the water, then es

    A wary eater

Later that same afternoon, we returned to the spot where this female cheetah made her kill, and we were happy for her that she could eat in peace. We never saw her cubs, but our guides told us the next day that they were OK.

This poor antelope, a reedbuck, our guides told us, didn't survive the day. We haven't seen something like this before or since, even though we were back in Africa two years later. It's weird though that we caught ourselves rooting for the cat. Maybe that
