<p>exactly, and about that 60D, there is a good rebate for the 50D now. I have a strong gut feeling after the rebate expires, we will shortly see the 60D along with new lenses and just in time for the world cup I am sure there could be new big whites announced as well.</p>

<p>Down at canonrumors.com there is one rumor about a new 1.2.0 7D firmware to include code for upcoming accessories and new lenses. I've been in the market for a new 24-70L, did not buy during the rebate when the lens was 1349 at B&H and Adorama because of strong rumors of a mkII version, now both of those stores have lowered the price to 1329 with B&H having the imported version for 1279, lowest I've ever noticed. I also called my local canon dealer and they too are willing to sell me a 24-70 for 1300 MSRP, when before they had it for 1349. I am now willing to bet there will be a mkII version with IS and I will wait, since MSRP appeared to lower soon after the rebate was available for the lens.</p>

However, I could not see a 7D in there anywhere, just 5DmkII's? Maybe the actual footage was from a 7D?<br>

<p>I also have that XH-A1, as well as a 5DmkII(firmware 2.0.3 YAY!) and a 7D. I have a rig system with follow focus, external mic, and lcd loupe. My XH-A1 is now up for sale and its video straight from camera looks like a $200 camera compared to my 7D. Of course if I get a DOF adapter to use SLR lenses with my XH-A1, I can comparable video, but the video from a 5Dmkii and 7D has a special crisp look that I am yet to achieve with an xH-A1 i've had for two years now.</p>

<p>Canon has finally pleased us DSLR video enthusiast. 24P and audio manual levels included.</p>

<p>What kind of photos? JPEG, TIFFS, RAW. And what type, resolution(megapixels), DPI?. Try importing with iphoto first, then open imovie and photos should become available in the media tab lower right corner(default UI). One reason why they might be pixelated in imovie is because the DPI is set to a really low number. Give me more info about your whole workflow.</p>

<p>just convert to 16 or 8 bit tiff 300dpi in dpp and open in elements. DPP is free comes with the 50D and has the best standalone RAW converter for .cr2 files.</p>

<p>I did a quick test for my 7d at ISO 6400 with ef-s 17-55 f2.8. Images are 1/15 sec@f2.8. I am amazed at how quick it focuses with very low light. Images were processed from the same RAW in DPP, Aperture 3 and lightroom 2.6 ACR 5.6. Only noise correction was applied to each at maximum. They are arranged as follows:<br>

<p>The 17mm is known for being THE sharpest lens in its class. People love that lens, sharp even in the corners. Lucky you.</p>

<p>Many electronics mega store discontinue products, not because of actual manufacturer discontinuance, but because for their local demographics there is no demand for a certain product. My local best buy in the area of a majority latino community, they only have canon rebels and Nikon consumer grade dslr's. However, if I drive 30 minutes to the Best Buy in Irvine, they have the 5DmkII and 7D in stock. That employee assumes too much.</p>

<p>Nikon has a tendency to promote their product more aggressively than canon. Their "I am Nikon" campaign in Europe and the Ashton Kutcher commercials here in the US seems to give a message that if you shoot Nikon, you are a professional photographer. Just take a look <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHtZL78Rts0">here</a> , he is shooting a wedding with a consumer grade Nikon and people get the message that anyone can shoot a wedding so as long as you have a Nikon.</p>

<p>And I usually find people that shoot Nikon to consider themselves "special" or something because they choose to have "better AF"(The 7D is just as good as the D300s and D700 with hopes of the new 5DmkIII having at least the same AF as the 7D), "better ergonomics"(what does this mean anyway? Nikon counter parts along with their lenses are considerably heavier than canon), "better colors"(what? color means nothing nowadays with digital, I can make a canon neutral picture style look like any nikon pic style with PScs4 or even aperture 3), "better high ISO"(ok, I give them that with the new D3S, but at only 12MP and sacrificing overall sharpness I prefer my canon).</p>

<p>To me "better value" would be my canon because I shoot 5DmkII and 7D and video has become just as important as stills. And Nikon cant even touch canon on video, they have no manual control and they only have 720P at 24ftps. I guess I value the AF system of the eos 7D so much I am actually impressed with Nikon's D3s full frame with superior AF system, but again I have a feeling canon is cooking something special for us that feel the 5DmkII should have been something else. And also lets wait for the 1Ds mkIII replacement. Canon will be the champ for high ISO in the future, I believe.</p>

<p>At the Irvine center, for a walk-in quote I was told they charge for sensor cleaning was $59. I had Samys camera in L.A. to do it professionally for $30. You could almost get a refurb 20D for the price they quoted you.</p>

<p>Another thing to look out for as far as predicting a 5DmkIII release is the soon expected nikon D700x/D800. I have a feeling we should see a 5D mkIII release no longer than six months after the new nikon FF is announced.</p>

<p>not six months, but for sure within a year we should expect heavy rumors. There are a few about the 5DmkIII having the 7D AF system along with more video bells and whistles. One being the ability to record to an external hard drive via HDMI. Although this ability is also rumored to be the next firmware for canon DSLR's. Who knows.</p>

<p>The 17-40L is really designed to work exclusively for FF. Given its short tele end(40 is not good for portraits), slow speed(F4 is really not usable indoors) and no IS makes this lens pretty useless for APS-C. The tammy is better but I would stick to canon and go with the 17-55 IS.</p>

<p>It comes down to which one offers the best lens selection for your needs and most important how the actual camera body feels in your hands. I am a long time canon user, when I purchased my first canon DSLR, I was deciding between canon and nikon. I went with canon for their L primes at the time. But if I were to do it all over again I would go nikon since recently I've been playing with my business partner's D3s and I must say I love how it feels in my hands, the D700 also has a more sturdy feel vs the 5DmkII. However, I will never switch since video has become just as important as stills for my canon bodies.</p>

<p>Hi, I have actually calibrated a couple lenses with noticeable difference after the process. One being the 50L. Most of my studio portraits I shoot at f8 because I get the greated DOF required to to have the entire subject in foucus with a slight blur in the background depending on my cameras position. I usually never shoot portraits wide open unless its in available light only with descent quality and no flash. But f1.2 to f2.0 on a 85L provides razor thin DoF. I love to use large apertures for available light portraits with good quality. Studio strobes I usually use f8 exclusively.<br>

I used that 85L on my 7D and on my wife's t2i. Same extreme softness wide at all apertures. Manual solves the problem. That 85 is THE sharpest lens wide open I have ever used. Something is wrong with it.</p>

<p>Yes, it looks like something happened during that 8 month period I had it stored from the last time I used. I never micro adjust any lens in my arsenal, but weird that it drifted out of calibration quite noticeably.</p>

<p>I've had my 85L mkII for about 2 years now since I purchased refurbished for $1200. This has been my sharpest lens I have ever had since I used it for the first time on my 30D, 40D, 5D2 and 7D. Last time I got flawless performance from this lens was about 8 months ago when I used it my 5DmkII. This past weekend I shot a portrait session with a 5DmkII+85mkII and noticed right away my shot were not sharp at all at f8. Ran some test wide open and all were soft. With some -14 micro focus adjustment I got good in focus images but not as good as I remembered it to be. I tested the camera as well with other lenses I have and all came sharp, so its not the camera. With my 7D+85Lmk2 I needed a -6 maf.<br>

I figure I need to take the lens for calibration down to Canon center in Irvine. But does any one have an idea on how much they would charge for a calibration?</p>

<p>Yes, the 5DmkII has a brightness sensor for the LCD. Turning it off may help you.</p>

<p>I don't think its the display. Try looking at the histogram and read the manual to adjust screen brightness. The histogram will tell you if its you that is overexposing or the screen is too bright.</p>
