1.
Good morning. Many great photos already.
My entry this week is a bit "different" Chrysler Building. It was (again) cold Saturday and I was waiting for a bus but couldn't be just standing and started walking around, then I found this reflection.

00VfuM-217073584.jpg.c3fc0bdd1db30e2c05b5aedd2edc8219.jpg

 2.
It is always a tremendous fun to see all those photos from around the world. Not only like a fun trip around the world but also very inspiring pile of examples to learn from. Also, it is really an honor to get any comment. Thank you, Roberta!

See you next week - I have hurt my back this week and I may not be able to walk around with heavy equipment bag this weekend, though..... The problem was and still is my neck and now the lower back, too? Sigh....

Ken

 3.
Thank you, Gej, Lil, and Joseph (I am so honored!) for your mention. I learn a lot every week here (I will someday have to take up your offer, Lil, about IR photo techniques!). I just go out every weekend and take as many as I like and pick one that may be good enough to show here (although it is getting a bit harder to expand my subject horizon without a car :-).

Those that caught my eyes this week are:
Matt Laur, Joseph Leotta, Narayan Kovvali, Epp B, Shane Srogi, James Kazan, Arthur Richardson, Dieter Schaefer, Aguinaldo de Paula, Jose Angel, Lil Judd, Robert Premkumar, Eddy Furlong, Kent Shafer, Bryan Davis, Jeannean Buglady, Dallas McVicker, Carey Moulton, Roberta Davidson, Doug Santo, Tiffany Brook, Peter Heritage, Mike Long, Jeff Lipsman ,,, and many more.

See you next Wednesday.

 4.
FWIW, the products brand had been NIKON at least since 70s while the name of the company was still Nippon Kogaku. The change of the name of the company from Nippon Kobaku to Nikon happened relarively recently. So, the timing of name change of the company has little to do the branding change. Sorry that I am not answering your question well....

 5.
My first try of a seagull photo, in way-below-freezing temperature seaside park last weekend. Patience didn't last long unfortunately in that weather... Thank you, Dan, for your comments for my photo last week - guess it was very local event :-) Good work, everyone (I see a few deja-vus - is it only me?)!

00VULz-209433684.jpg.3ca627d4da1fd705a8460c99e40c9664.jpg

 6.
Thank you Matt for taking over the important role! Dan and Lil, thank you for your comments on my entry last week.
This week is "after the party", taken near the Times Square on the second day of the year.
Hope everybody had a nice holidays.

00VQTM-206991584.jpg.7cc60fbea4cfc93a69241d52d3db44f9.jpg

 7.
Dan, thank you very much! Yes, it was in Central Park. I shot many of those trees/woods in the Park as I liked the shape and complexity of those winter branches, but I ended up liking this best. I guess I am learning a bit here thanks to many inspiring photos. Happy New Year!

 8.
My guess..
P T = Patent #
U.M. = Utility Model #
The difference between the Patent and Utility Model - ask a lawyer :-) It appears that U.M. is the permit or right given to the actual usage of product or combination of products which may or may not be already patented individualy.

 9.
I started posting on the week late 20s or something like that and this thread HAS BEEN the motivation, education, and inspiration of/for my interest in the photography. I admit that most of my entry are still mediocre but excercise is what counts in this hobby and result and process are both fun. I truly appreciate Jose for doing this thread every week and I will be in your debt forever. And Matt, you, too, have helped from time to time and I am looking forward to the NEW Wednesday photo series.

Again, Jose, YOUR Wednesday photo thread will be sorely missed, but thank you, thank you, thank you.

Happy holidays, everyone.

Ken

 10.
Happy holidays, everyone!
Aguinaldo... I can't help mentioning yours. Wonderful, as always.
My entry is just a snapshot of "after the mess". The speed and mobility of this army was impressive.

00VK0t-203011584.jpg.825c239d57b690a55da0fdcafd0f3260.jpg

 11.
Right. I also found that the focus point in the view finder and the red focus point of the preview (after shooting) on the rear LCD is slightly "shifted". Red focus point on the LCD was slightly shifted or jumped to left/up . I repeatedly asked Nikon service center to fix it and for the second time they understood the issue and fixed it. While I admit that it must have little effect in the real life, it is sooo comfortable to know that where I intended to focus was in fact where the camera focused. Sorry for being anal. But I am glad I had it fixed before the warranty expires.
I believe this "shift" of the focus point is related to the viewfinder "shift" to the right/low.

 12.
Agreed. Seems very back focus (assuming you are shooting from the left side of the image). If your camera body has AF fine tune, try to tune it to far "+" side. If +20 is not enough, which sometimes happens, and if it is new, have it exchanged or send it in for warranty service. Your closest authorized servicer will send it to Nikno service factory anyway for warranty repair.

 13.
Is it so surprising that kids go to school and back home alone??? I was so used to it and was surprised to find it a "crime" to leave kids alone in US, though :-)
Anyhow, great shots everyone. I don't have one to enter this week, so just browsing... Will make comments later this week.

 14.
Late entry this week. As always, great photos. What caught my eyes so far are:

Jose - interesting angle and composition. I like it.
Per-Christian - Like the scene and nice bokehed bridge behind.
Monika - simply mesmerizingly nice.
Lil - how could you take such a timing???
Bogdan - impressive tree.
Jeannean - wonderful shot. as good as your bug photos, or better :-)
Gej - nice whitey scene and I like it.
Shun - nice penguin march.
Paul B - I don't know why, but I think this is a very nice shot. It is great to share this hobby with your wife.
Keith - impressive reflective building. Wow.
Paul V - nice fallen leaves color.
Ertugrul - interesting and nice, as many others have mentioned.
Matt Laur - Very interesting and sharp. Where is your dog?
Mark Gordon - Very, very nice BW. And very cute, of course.
Aguinaldo - love the contrast of the Sunflower and the sky.
Thomas B - love the composition, shadow/sun and color, depth.
Mark Jordan - I can't ignore the watch photos!
James S. - wow, beautiful sky!

Well, my entry this week is my first try of IR photo. I don't know if I did good or bad. But among the bunch I took, this is most interesting.

00V9x2-197193684.JPG.7f951636985130e4a045dc2c9ad643f6.JPG

 15.
I don't think Robert over reacted at all. I don't think B&H duped him either - Henry is trying to right the wrong and that is respectable. What has been done cannot be undone.
But one thing EVERYBODY has to understand is that Robert is terminally ill. I truly hope that it is curable, Robert. I am not terminally ill but my wife was. It was four-year battle but she didn't win, but Robert you must win. And I know that every second counts. Everyday, every minute, and every second counts. Most people have no idea how that battle is. This was an unfortunate event for both side, but there is nothing anybody can do about that.
All I or anyone can do is to pray and cheer up. Robert, fight and fight and fight, and make sure you win! If there is anything I can do to help, let me know. That's all I can say. And I hope photography give a lots of joy to your life. I am behind such a fighter.
Just my worthless 0.02 cents.

 16.
Hello. I was in Tokyo for 4 days with camera, but there is nothing to show here this week, unfortunately. As always, there are many great photos this week again. I will try to have something to post here next week (holiday season is kinda depressing time for me).

Okay, my top 10 this week are:
- Oskar Ojala - impressive night construction scene
- Per-Christian - very cute pair
- Jana - interesting perspective
- Gary McGhee - funny sign :-)
- Richard Armstrong - very sharp and nice shot
- Benjamin Schaefer - very nicely done fog and bridge in BW
- Shun - I like this type of landscape
- Bill J Boyd - Nice shot! Beautiful.
- Doug Santo - Wonderful staircase shot
- Wayne Cornell - nice shot of woods. nice color.
- Janne Kaakinen - nice night shot!
- Roberta Davidson - I like the paintings through the window.
- Larry Gardner - very nicely done night scene.
- Tiffany - a VERY cute pair!
- James Kazan - very nice and sharp
- Lil - again, so sorry for your loss. Beautiful guy you got there.
- Richard Karash - nice landscape.
- cc chang - well done!

Well, a bit more than 10 :-) See you next Wednesday. Happy holiday to all of you!
Ken

 17.
Luis, Andy - am glad to find other watchnuts around here. Should have taken it more seriously :-) Will upload some of my other watch photos in my album here when I have time.
James, thank you for your kind words.
Lil - I feel for you. Losing close familiy member hurts alot, I know. Will never heal but time will help.

Ken from Tokyo (may be too busy to take photos :-( )

 18.
Happy Wednesday. Didn't go out last weekend (bad weather) and therefore in-house shot this week. A watch - just took casually as it was sitting on my desk and I thought the back side was so cool with the available light then - just a matter of another hobby of mine :-)
I am heading for Tokyo this morning and hope to take some pic over there.

00V2RK-191889584.jpg.39016737600ef4ae04cb5c5adeca0eb4.jpg

 19.
James Hart and Lil, thank you for your words. As always, encouraging!

Now my top 10 this week:
Rene - like the bird and composition.
Luis Arguelles - interesting perspective. Nice.
Joseph Leotta - again, you nailed the color of fall. I wish I could do as well.
Aguinaldo - like I said, I never get tired of your night sky photos. Um, who's that?
Lil - what a beauty and nice timing.
Richard Armstrong - Wonderful. Which is which?
Bill J Boyd - nice color combination; sky and the statue.
Richard Karash - beautifully done HDR.
Buglady - oh! my... As a photo, very well done!
Tom Mann - wonderful street shot.
Ian Rance - love the photo; center horizon working very well.
Paul SooHoo - nice shot.

Seeing and picking up these my favorites, I really feel the low level of mine. Have to practice a lot more, I guess.
Just an observation (not complaint) - portrait photo takes up bigger space than landscape photo. Suppose the system accepts as long as the horizontal length is below 700.

See you in a few days.

Ken

 20.
Um, everything has possibility to fail. CD-R, DVD disc, Tape, all the same as time goes by. There is no 100% guaranteed method, I guess.
I just use TWO identical HDDs (Seagate FreeAgent Pro) and use FreeAgent to mirror the data to another one. I store most of my images in NEF file, FWIW.
Sorry for my short answer, but hope this helps.
