<p>Hi, the Tokina AT-x pro f/2.6-2.8 was rated very very high... as good as the Nikkor 35-70 f/2.8. Get one if you can find it. The older Sigma 28-70 f/2.8 was also rated very high. Whatever you get, hold it still.... good shootin'.<br>

<p>Wow, I was asking myself the same question for my D700. Should I get the AF-s which both Thom and Ken recommend over the f/2.8-4. So I bought both over Ebay. Can't wait to get them in for a compare. I'll keep you posted. The other lenses for my D700 are my 16mm AF-d, 17-35 f/2.8 AF-s, 85 f/1.8, 1o5 macro af-d f/2.8, and 70-210 f/4 AF. I've debated trading my 70-210 for the 180, or the busting out the visa to get the nikon 24-70 $1600 badaxx.</p>

This beast is heavy, but it beats all the others which will find themselves on the auction block... Viva la 17-35...</p>
