  1. btw im assuming you are in the USA. i wish PN would put locations under your avitar so we have a better idea who we are talking to.

Yes, I'm in the US. I messaged her to say that if she could find herself in any of my photos/videos then I would gladly remove them. I did this out of simple courtesy, not because I think she has any right to tell me not to post photos made in the public sphere and without commercial intent. She hasn't responded and I suspect that she's just being paranoid or contrarian. I cannot find her in any of the photos/videos. Basically I think she's just whacko but she is entitled to her opinion and I gain nothing by insisting that I'm in the right. I don't think I'll hear from her again and after a little time has passed I'll simply unfriend her. I really don't like conflict of any sort, especially when there's nothing to be gained by it.

  2. Thanks all, if I could find her in the video it would be different but there are no pictures of her and I've watched the video several times and can't find her there either. I'm going to just let it go. I would gladly remove any photo of her just because it bothers her.
  3. I haven't posted here for a long time but I figured folks here might have some insight into a current mild dilemma.

I'm an amateur photographer and I don't usually shoot public events much. But today I went out to the City Park to document the March for our Lives event in my small town. I got some fun shots of the passionate students carrying signs and giving speeches and such and a couple of videos of the parade marching down Main St. And I posted some select photos and videos on FB. Mostly I got a very positive response thanking me for documenting this important event, but one neighbor and FB friend said "Hi Steve -- just a quick reminder -- some folks (me for instance) would prefer not to be filmed or photographed and posted on FaceBook. Thanks"

This seems to me to be within the public domain where "there is no reasonable expectation of privacy." As I'm an amateur and not using the video she commented on in any commercial way I know I don't need a release and I'm not worried about legal issues.

What I'm trying to figure out is how I should respond, if at all. My first reaction was to just not respond in any way, she said her piece and I respect her for her wishes even if she is being ridiculous. It was a parade on Main St. for Pete's sake and I've watched the video several times now and cannot find her. If she's in that video it's very hard to find.

So, my question is does anyone here have some language that they've used successfully in informing my neighbor that she doesn't have any right to privacy in the public domain without offending her and potentially losing a friend. I'm looking for language.

Ultimately I'll probably just not respond at all. And after a bit I'll probably quietly un-friend her in the hope that I won't accidentally offend her in the future. She's a nice but very quiet and private person.

  4. <p>Jay, I found the color of Velvia 100F to be pretty unrealistic. The 50 is far better but still very saturated. The Velvia 100 and Astia 100F are my favorites. The Astia particularly has more honest color and a little better dynamic range. And it scans very well. I use and old minolta dimage III for home stuff but if you want to make a great print send the slide to West Coast Imaging or equivalent and they'll make a HUGE Tango Drum scan for you. This gives you the ability to make a very large print (you can chose how many hundred megabytes you want the file to be). Do your editing in PS or whatever and send it back to them for a Crystal Archive print.</p>
  5. <p>Hi everybody, does anyone know if the current crop of Nikkor AF-S VRII zoom lenses work well on the Fujifilm Finepix S2 Pro? I'm considering the 16-85mm f/3.5-f5.6G ED VR AF-S Dx lens and am hoping that the VR will work as intended. I don't know of any reason why it wouldn't but this will be my first VR lens and thought I'd make sure before throwing down the cashish. Thanks, Steve.</p>
  6. <p>Yep, I know. But some are faster than others of course. I was just wondering if it seemed unreasonable to expect this machine to handle files that big without it feeling like you're waiting for a congressional bill to pass. I don't work on 500mb files very often but sometimes I have a drum scan done of a 35mm or 645 slide. Is anybody here using this computer for this kind of thing?</p>
  7. <p>Yeah, just took a look and that is a very large finder. I like Randy's idea of using the optical voigtlander and the pancake lens. Geoff, I appreciate the idea of the G1 but I just like the look of the GF. But I do wish it had a flip up monitor. I have that on my Olympus C-7070 and love it. So much to choose from. But none of it is exactly what I want. I wish Panasonic had left off the flash and put a real viewfinder there instead. Call me old fashioned but for some silly reason the ability to compose is still important to me and so often the image in the LCD is hard to see given bright or harsh light.</p>
  8. <p>I'm considering buying the Panasonic GF1 but am bummed that it lacks an optical viewfinder. Has anyone used the add-on EVF that is supposed to be available for it? Hoping to find out how usable it is and how good its coverage is. Wish I could find a small digital camera with a usable optical finder!</p>
  9. <p>Edward did you ever find out much about this camera? I've just picked one up for $10 and it seems to work well. I agree that the build/feel is quite nice. No push button focusing here. Copal shutter, prominar f1.8, bottom rewind crank, very solid feel, nice camera I think.</p>
