1.
1. I have an early Nikon F. When I select bulb, the shutter freezes and doesn't return until I cock the shutter for another exposure. Same goes for T. Other shutter speeds seem to work fine. This needs/can be to be repaired, right?

2. My Nikkor 50mm f/2 seems to jam. Sometimes, if i focus closer than 0.6m it jams. It will not go past 0.6m and 0.7m but moves in the other direction (no markings). When this happens, the top part of the lens (past the focusing ring) twists and seems loose, like I can twist it loose and tight again. Is this dangerous? Any possible simple fixes? (I am so not DIY handy)

3. What is a good, reliable place to service this in Los Angeles? Primarily in the Valley (Sherman Oaks, Northridge), but anywhere in LA, really. This camera is a family heirloom and if its lost by repair folks, I will have my head chopped off :)

 2.
Although I am suprised a 12 MP camera can make an okay print like that size... (just going to show MPs don't matter) Doesn't work unless we know the film. Also, they should have shot with ISO 100 film in a studio because one of their complaints was grain.

 3.
Lex: True, but for me velcro is fine because I don't shoot skittish birds :).

Does anyone have experience with the Domke F-5XB? Seems small, and perfect for my needs, albeit it does look suspiciously like a man-purse :D. Seriously though, it looks good, and for 50 bucks on BH....

 4.
Luis, hm... True... It's just that my camera stores only sell the usuals (Lowepro and Tamrac) and the one's I've seen seem just off, if it's just a tad bit too small or big. I put up the Nikon bag for reference.

Jeff, Thanks! I like the bag. Just a little bit out of my price range. I was hoping to pay 70$ max. Obviously, if this is not possible, then that's fine. Just trying to see my options and other's recommendations.

Hey, I have been looking for a nice, small shoulder bag that will be capable of holding a small kit of gear. I plan to use this new bag for a Nikon D200 (no grip), a 35mm f/2 (attached to body), and a 50mm 1.8. Maybe a SB-600 also, but mainly those two lenses and body probably 90% of time. I searched the forums for suggestions, such as the Lowepro slingshot (Don't like form-factor) and others, but most seem too big (like for more lenses and such), or too small (body only). Any recommendations? Price is the most important factor, then size. I was looking at this:

http://www.cameta.com/index.cfm/fa:display.showprod/Nikon-5874-SLR-System-Case-Gadget-Bag/productid:29319/

But it seems to be too big for my needs. What do you think?

 6.
Jumped in and bought a D200 from Best Buy. Didn't need the bells and whistles of the D300, or D700 and I decided that the durability factor of the D200/300 is what sold me over something like a D80/90

Anyway, I am trying to decide on my first lens. I would love use the 50mm f/2 and 135 f/3.5 I have for my Nikon F, but they're Pre-AI and I think I would like autofocus anyway. I am trying to decide on a standard prime as my first lens. My debate is whether to get the 35mm 1.8 DX or 50mm 1.8D. For me, the 35mm would be nice but I have read about its issues, such as aberration and distortion problems. The 50mm would be great, as I "see" and am very used to that focal length but on DX, it might be a bit too long for me. So which of the two am I better off with? I plan to use it as my only lens until I can afford a longer prime. I will be shooting portraits and family events. I don't want a zoom.

 7.
Is it bad if I rewind my completely unused roll of film from my camera up to a point where i can pull it out again? Something came up so I cannot use the film, at least not now. I will need it later. So will it make a difference? At least in terms of quality of film? The film is Portra 160 VC.

 8.
Hey all,

I have a Nikon F with the ol' standard prism without a meter. DO you have any tips for guessing exposures? It's just so frustrating to see some of my negatives that have good composition, or something else, but over or under exposed.

Like are there any general exposures for sunny days, cloudy days, etc.? I shoot ISO 100.

Any tips?

 9.
Hey all,

Before you bite me for such a seemingly stupid question, please hear me out.

I have been shooting both AF Nikons and I also have an ancient Nikon F (Still use bi-weekly or so). I have been shooting film for quite a while now, and I want to finally switch to digital for day to day use. I have a buch of Nikkors for my set.

Here's my dilemma. I can only really afford sub 700 body, and so I figured that a D40 is a no-go for me for its inability to focus my 50mm. I was seriously considering a Rebel XSI, as it seemed to be the right set of features (Friend owns all Canon, so we can swap/borrow lenses). When I took his XTI out for a spin, I found the grip to be actually painful to use. I decided that the Rebels were no-go's also.

I saw the D80 for under 600 at BH, felt a D90 in-store, and I liked it. However, its become discontinued today. (Adorama has it for 650, but that seems a bit much if BH had it for 580) Then I saw a Refurb Canon 30D refurbished for 500. I know, I know its two generations back, but it seems to be the most viable option for me at the moment. Especially as the only lenses I have access to are the Nikons and Canons. I really think I like the 30D, it seems very substantial/good in the hand (Probably biggest selling point for me).

What do you think? Anyone have an answer?

-Robert
