  1. <p>-Sorry, the posted question had some seperate paragraphs when I typed it, and the spaces on some of the words were not like that either. And re-reading it, I do see some places that could of used some commas or better sentence structure, lol. And even when I preview this post it bunches it all up again. Sorry if it is hard to understand.<br>

-Basically, I was wondering how to charge. Selling images on a CD or print packages? I was hoping that others who have more experience in the business had some learning knowledge of the best route to go.<br>

-My second half of the question was in regards to charging family and friends. If I should charge them at all? I don't want to build any riffs in my family. I already planned that immediate family wouldn't have to pay me, but I have alot of family that have not ever met me, but communicate with me on Facebook every now and then.</p>

  2. <p>Hi everyone. I would like to pick the brains of some of you with experience in business

    practices.<br>

What is your insight on offering print packages vs. images on cd and they print?<br>

    1) Say $30 sit fee and 8x10 with additional prints per package, like a

    traditional studio<br>

    2) Or $200 for 2 hour shoot and x number of images on cd with print

    release<br>

    3) Or a set fee that includes a print credit of x amount of dollars

    and no cd</p>

    <

p>I originally wanted to go the route of #2. It seems smoother. I don't have a studio, I will be going to l

ocation for shoot (portraits, seniors, babies etc). It seems hectic to set up proofing meet and which prints and sizes d

o you want. I know alot of proffesionals have this all through their website. I am struggling to get my site up and g

oing. Limited resources and I just don't know if I can get a proofing system set up like this. <br />Anyway. Am I

loosing money by not going with print packages? It seems that most people would spend anywhere from $100 to

$200 on ordering prints anyway. Sure there's the percentage of those who would only by 1 pose package and nothing

more. So is my reasoning warped? or reasonable?<br>

My second question is in regards to family, distant family, friends and co-workers. I read a post from 2008 in

here. Everyone seemed to recommend no charge or charge just your cost (I shoot digital, my cost is just my time

and wear and tear). I do see the advantage of getting the experience and portfolio. Distant family (twice or three times

removed, haven't met before) seem to expect to pay. Do I charge my regular rate? Or do I do the no charge thing. I

have ALOT of 2nd and third cousins with kids and grandkids, How far do I let it go? Not that all of them are going to

be calling and asking, but I don't want to burn bridges, and what about theri friends. Do I tell my relatives "hey this is

a family discount, but if anyone sees my work and is interested my regular prices are...". I daydream of

making money as a photographer and quiting my serving job once and for all. I know I have atleast 1 year or more to

that. I am only in month 3 of having my Nikon D300 (upgrade from the N50). My website is in need of serious

revamping. Half finished with HTML and wanting to switch to Flash, but knowing a lick of what to do with that.

Anyway, that is a whole different question, hahaha.<br>

Thanks for input from everyone, I look forward to hearing your thoughts. L</p

  3. <p>Truthfully I am not sure how to ask my question, since I don't understand what I am trying tounderstand, lol. So please excuse me if I use incorrect terms or don't make sense. Hopefully someone will get the gist and beable to help.<br>

It has to do with printing images. I have Kubota Production Tools2. In this action pack it has<br>

"Make full frame vert(horiz) within 8x10 250 dpi (300dpi) small, med, or large."<br>

Why use this action? What's the difference between 250 dpi and 300 dpi and small, med, and large? I am guessing it has something to do with maybe standardizing my image size for print. But why not just print it at it's current image size. When i play the action it takes my photo and puts in on a big wide white border, which I don't like. Is there something I need to know about printing my images at their original pixel size (example: 3190 x 4631)</p>

  4. <p>YES! The clipping was turned on! Thank you. I have some things to learn, obviously, about my programs. I agree about the ViewNX, it is clunky and slow and simplistic. That is another reason I kept going back to Photoshop. But I just kept feeling like it would be best to use Nikon software. I am going to look into the <em><strong>Capture NX </strong></em>software. Seems I knew about that, but had forgotten. Thank you for these tips. I will check out the sites all of you posted and see if I can't learn more about what I am doing. Thanks again.</p>
  5. <p>Hi! I am new on here. I have a NikonD300 and I was wondering if anyone could advise me regarding using the Nikon software (ViewNX) to adjust exposure settings vs. using Photoshop CS4, Camera RAW to do the adjusting. Photoshop has so much more in options, but when I open an overexposed file, due to intense sun coming in a window, the OE areas are all red. I have used the recovery button and then the Adjustment brush to fix these areas, but just want some insight. I have only had my camera for 2 months and am new shooting in RAW, so anyone with some pointers would be great!</p>
