Dierk,
Are you sure is the monochrome? Your files have a M8 "look and feel" Maybe is the software that you are
using to process the DNG´s, software might not be ready yet to handle this powerful beast. Could you post
some out of the camera JPG´s for us? Maybe a Raw file too if you are so kind?

As long as the photographic process remain as important as the visual result, Leica will keep making M
bodies. Try taking photos with a Nex 7, a X100 or a Nikon D800, when you click and manipulate those
modern cool looking bodies you get great pictures out of them, but it doesnt feel like you are manipulating
a totaly manual and perfectly balanced beautifull masterpiece. So if you have never shot with a Leica, you
are fine and safe using those cameras. Once you try a Leica, you cant stop, and everything you use after
it, will feel uncomplete, so eventualy you will end up searching for one., no matter how expensive it is or
how hard it is to get it.

No Jim, megapixels matter in a relative way. Check the history of the canon G series or the 6 mp sensor
that fuji created for the S series. A 6mp fuji sensor can create better results than a D200 or a 40d in many
different situations (like portraits). I bet that if most of us care more about dynamic range and image quality
than mp and detail, we woudnt be considering the D800 after all. But many dream that they might get that
great shot that can be printed about the size of a swimming pool and that everybody will be looking for the
smallest faults, so they want to be prepared for that event, if it ever happens. I only wish my fuji s3 pro was
a bit faster and my m8 a 12mp full frame beauty, but I do not want more megapixels! no more please!
instead, invest in dynamic range and filmlike output look.

Oh my, the megapixel race is back
-
Dont se any diference either. Invest on excelent lenses, photography books, and workshops. Care not too much about
the newest camera.
-
Or 28mm elmarit on my m8
-
50mm summicron on my nikon
-
Zack, I completely agree with you.
-
M8 would be a wise choice, 1.33 crop factor only, not bad at all and your leica lenses will truly shine on that sensor.

Thanks for the link and instructions Shimon

300k? dont bother

Get a used Finepix S3 pro and you can share lenses with him. Robust camera, great image quality and
very cheap.

Maybe the lab needs a lawyer and some protection against copyright fanatics.

There is a very good article about resolution and contrast in Leica Fotografie International 7/2011 written
by Michael J Hussman. It is a very technical article but worth the effort. In resume, good resolution is
the result of the correlation between lens and sensor, an harmonic balance between the resolution
capacities of this two elements will give you the best possible resolution and good contrast.
Also, I think that we need to consider the dynamic range that a sensor is capable to deliver. When we
use Nikon D-light function, we all experience a decrease in contrast but not a decrease in resolution.
My hiphotesis right now is that contrast is dependant on lens and sensor capabilities individualy, and
resolution, as the article points out, has to do more with the "symbiotic" relationship between lens and
sensor.
Everyone, escuse my english, I tried my best!

You said that your budget is US $2,000 - 2500. Is that so, you should consider Leica X1 and Ricoh GXR,
they might not have the fastest autofocus on the market, but you will have the potential of great image
quality on a small and a very well built piece of photographic equipment.
-
No looking good to me, ugly design and bad ergonomics. Looks as unactractive as Sony nex series. Even if this kind of
devices can take great photographs, I do need them to look and feel like a photographic camera, not like a futuristic
supercool gadget. Fuji understood this ideology and came up with finepix X100, not perfect yet,, but they did indeed
understood the market.

Well, it is 90° wrong :)
All that comes on a new Nikon D700 package seems to be there. No idea of what the Mack bag is and you
are getting two CF cards. A good deal if the seller is for real.
-
"Hi. I just wonder if the D700 is still a good camera? Is it worse or better than the D7000?"
Simple answer: Nikon D700 is still as good as it gets.
Image quality depends a lot on the kind of lenses you use, stick a low quality (or bad sample) sigma or
tamron lens on it, and you will get low quality contrast, bokeh, etc. Get a nice zeiss, or a nikkor 50mm
f/1.2 and this camera will create top quality images.
Sometimes it is not wise to judge photo equipment by its age. I still keep and use a fuji S3 pro, it is a
seven year old design, and when I need wide dinamic range, I use it. No Leica M9 or nikon D3x can
match it on that important aspect of photography.
A year ago, a good friend ask me, what can nikon do to improve the d700 if it already has everything we
need? It was very hard to answer that, and still is. I told him, just two things, the flimsy CF door and a
more precise auto white balance. I would answer the same thing if you ask me today. These two things
are just very mild defects, too mild to devaluate an almost perfect piece of photographic equipment.
Still a good camera? If nikon has not released a new model in more than three years that competes on
the same range, it is probably because they are having a very hard time improving it :)
You probably think that I work for nikon now, but no, I just respect companies that can manufacture
tools with patience and lots of care. Same respect I have for Leica and Fuji, please keep surprising us
every once in a while

When I upgrade, I get the best configuration of hardware available (the best I can afford of course). That
way my computer will last at least 5 good years and I dont have to reinstall all my software every two years
on a new computer. Keep your registry unfragmented and clean, also your hard drives. Install only what
you realy need. I usualy use two internal hard drives, one for OS and essential software, another one for
editing and all sorts of software. For my images and music I use a external hard drive that is constantly
beeing backed up by a NAS server. Always back up!

This is an exaggeration, dont you think? Just ask for a refund and use lightroom or capture one instead. Best regards!
-
Yes it is fake and it would be a crime to glue a leather like that one on a real leica :P

Check out the next to arrive fuji X100, is not a dslr, but for nostalgics and rangefinder lovers seems to be the best
option.

Amir, the Holy tribunal of photoinquisition has found you guilty of photographic heresy. Your punishment
will be to post images on facebook and tolerate superfluous critiques for the rest of your days. Just kidding
:P
I believe sometimes is too hard to predict the collateral damage on moral and ethic codes when you
attempt to construct social experiments. If my opinions counts, I think that you may have broken a internal
code of ethics, but you have created a very interesting and productive debate. If there was a "forum thread of the week" on PN, this one would be a winner for sure
If Nikon made a new DSLR with no video....
