    FRISKY FIELDS

          3

A beautiful landscape, I particularly like the medley of bright and contrasting colors. As a landscape photographer based in China I am always on the lookout for pleasing scenes to shoot with my wide angle lens.

There is also the subtle contrast between the steppes and the smoky grey rocks in the background. It looks as though there is an abyss, in fact the view makes me feel a little dizzy, I hope I don't fall off the edge.

There is a classic movie in the UK called 'Far from the madding crowd', based on a book by Thomas Hardy and set in Dorset. There is a scene where the sheep rush off the edge of the cliff to meet their deaths. This view reminds me of that.

My score 9/10 . Really excellent, well done!

  1. Cultural Heritage in China is most important in the development of

National Heritage sites, here in Chengdu in Sichuan we can see actors

playing the parts of Emperor and his two concubines. Beautiful Chinese

ladies are always a pleasure to shoot, particularly in an interesting

context. But what do you think?

    Sediento !!

Absolutely beautiful, there's something magical about the tiger's eyes. He looks quite young, judging by his apparent size and soft down, but I'm no expert on tigers. Here in China its the year of the tiger!

Technical : its a good head shot, I would have used my 140 mm Carl Ziess lens if I was lucky enough to get this shot. You probably used a Canon 35 mm camera with a 300 mm telephoto lens, but I'm just guessing.

Quality : Clean, sharp and focussed well on its face. His back is much softer, but that's ok.

General thoughts : One can only imagine what its thinking about, this cat is a zen master!

    My score : 8/10

    Bed of Tulips

A very pleasing image showing the grandeur of white & red tulips. As a mystical fine art photographer I have come to realise that photography has to come from the heart. Take what pleases you and you cannot go far wrong.

Technical : Images don't have to be sharp, soft focus ones are highly appropriate too as in this image.

    My score : 7/10

    Pathways

I liked this image as it reminds me of a scene in a Jack Frost murder mystery where the guy is walking his dog quite innocently in the woods, or so it seems!

Here the guy is apparently gathering firewood? In the New Forest there are strict bye laws on collecting firewood, only commoners are allowed to do so and the maximum length of wood is stipulated, about three feet only.

Content : As I have alluded this image has an interesting subject.

Quality : A sharp image. Love the tones on the tree.

Composition : I think the signpost conflicts with the image of the man. Also the man is shown small while the signpost , in the foreground is tall. The background is aptly swathed in mist, I like this as it adds mystery to the shot. I would have liked to see more of the tree and more of the guy gathering wood.

    My score : 7/10

  2. Content : well orchestrated , beautiful nude porttrait with most interesting shadows and lit by natural light.

Composition : good composition, like the involvement of the vase and action of withdrawing the paper. Also like the way the model is looking with interest at something.

Drawbacks : Not sure that the patterned curtain on the right side of the image does anything for this image, why not use photoshop to get rid of it?

Quality : clear sharp image , blurred effect of hand complements the rest of the image. I liked blurred images, especially if they portray action, but you either love, or hate it. Here in China, people appreciate blurred images under certain conditions, elsewhere they seem less popular.

    My rating : 7/10

Content : I love to take photos of these exotic flowers and here we have a good example of a single bloom.

Quality : I think the petals in the middle of the flower are over exposed, this is a common fault when photographing light subjects, for eample seagulls.

Background: I like the soft black background which looks completely natural to me. I am not a photoshop person, but do use it very sparingly.

    Sharpness : Good, sharp image.

Composition : My friend who does ikebana, often excels at flora shots. In this image we have the ' L ' shaped stem, which goes well with the random array of wonderful green leaves.

    My rating : 7/10

    desire

          7

Content : Certainly a desirable pose and the model's hair falls over the edge of the bed which looks good.

Quality : A clear sharp image with the contrast in tone, especially with the creases in the sheet which add body to the photo.

General comments: Not one of my favourite poses for a beautiful model, I'm a location photographer.

    My rating : 7/10

At the crossroads - this image was taken in Lijiang with a Contax

645AF medium format camera and 140mm f2.8 lens, the film used

was Fuji 50. Have taken many shots of temple reconstruction

across China and greatly admire the craftsmenship with traditional

    tools.
