2.
I posted this on the Sony forum but the only answer i got was some guy talking about a Canon 5D which doesn't address my question. Is there a custom setting that allows me to automatically switch to card #2 when shooting a video? The manual is not a lot of help on the use of custom settings. I know that this can be done through the menu but it's time consuming and cumbersome.

 3.
I've used the vertical grips on all my cameras going back to my Minolta 600 si's to my 800's, my max 9, KM 7D, Sony a700, a900 and finally my SLT a99. I've always found that the grips provide a better balance with heavy lenses but they also expand battery length of of use. I don't think I would ever be comfortable to use any of those without the grip in place. The one thing that to consider is that they do add more weight to the camera but I have kind of gotten used to it over the years.
