1.
When I fell, I had the neck strap on and the camera swung sideways into my leg, it was mostly the side of the barrel taking the impact and even then it was pretty light if I remember correctly. It happened so fast I barely had time to process what was happening.

  2.
Eric, I took a few test shots using different focal lengths of the lens and all seems to be well. I definitely will be sure to take extra precaution next time round. It is easy to get caught up in the adventure, and forget to watch where you are walking at times. When I saw the lens bounce off of my knee my heart sank, thankfully it wasn't too hard. At least from what I remember.
Mike, that sounds like a really bad day, sorry to hear it. I know what you mean though, I have been amazed with the results of the camera, and lenses, and the sharpness right out of the camera. If something happened to change that I would be pretty upset myself.
Thank you for your input guys.

  3. Random question, but I am new to Nikon and the system. I recently changed over from Canon, and bought a D810 and 14-24mm for

landscape work. Today while shooting I slipped in the mud and the camera and lens hit my leg, with the lens taking most of the impact.

The lens seems to still work fine, but it made me consider how tough these lenses are. Are the lenses tough enough to take light impacts

like this? Is there anyway anything internal could have been shifted or moved from the impact, and how would I tell?

Thanks in advance, happy to be a part of the Nikon family. Just want to make sure I didn't do any harm, and find out how tough they are.

  4.
I see, i had bought the filter separately, i just bought the kit from canon with the body & lens, and was always under the impression that these were to be used for protection of the lens and its elements.... Thank You all for your help this is very great information! I still would like a graduated filter though, for the landscape work that i do and so on, something to help me catch bright skies, anyone have an idea?

  5.
Its a Tiffen 77mm UV filter, i dont know what the problem is with it, i have checked it multiple times and it keeps contacting it, i dont see any problems in the pictures the lens produces, i mean if the lens was defective would it be noticable in the images it creates?

  6.
yes, screwed into the threads it makes contact with the lens for some reason that it beyond me, i removed it and placed it back on multiple times and continue to have the same problem, i dont know why, it makes a bubble looking pressure point in the center of the lens and i am afraid i have damaged it now as well

  7.
Hello,

My name is Nick and i just recently purchased the 5D Mark II kit and a 77mm filter with it, after placing the filter on the lens i realized there was a spot on it, i removed it and checked the lens and filter and there was nothing, after repeating this process a few times i realized that the filter was making contact with the lens glass its self, i am afraid now that 1 i have damaged my new lens, and 2 what do i do for a filter? Please help, i have never had this happen to me

Thank You

  8.
i can take photos just fine thats not the problem, i know how to use a camera, i just want to upgrade to something professional level, and get a high IQ from my equipment, the Sony takes pictures alright, but not as good as one of these cameras can

  9.
Thank you all for all your responses, this has helped me greatly, im definitiley going to be going with the 5Dmkii for its resolution and just all around incredible features! And Jeff, i only have a A300 kit, nothing to special i have some old minolta mount lenses as well from an old film camera but the quality of the pictures it produces are no where near that of Canon, so i have decided to go to a brand that has been making DSLR's for a long time and has the correct technology and made the research neccessary to build a camera of this scale

  10.
Thank you Mark for your insight, i definitely am going to be purchasing the 5D, and hopefully in the next few months i will be able to save some more for a nice prime lens, maybe 2 :) Thank You again for your help this has helped me a lot, now i just need to go out and make my purchase!

  11.
Thank you for the help! And yes i am definitely leaning towards Canon, it has such a better range of lenses and their FF sensor technology has been out longer than Nikon's, so they obviously have more experience in that department, as for the lenses, i definitely want the 24-105 as a good walk around lens, but i was looking for some really nice prime suggestions as well, any specific ones you might suggest?

  12.
Hello,
My name is Nick and i could really use some help in deciding what camera is right for me. I have been looking at the 5D Mark ii, i do a lot of landscape photography, traveling, night time shots, portraits and advertising work along with some freelance stuff for local businesses as well. I love the fact that it has a 21mp FF sensor, and the kit is magnificent, with the 24-105 included in it. Others though have been suggesting the Nikon D700, and claim its better for everything, i personally think both cameras are immaculate and extremely good with IQ and noise control. I have also been told that the 5D mark ii does not have a very good light metering system, and the colors it produces are not as good as those that Nikon does. Obviously the AF system is somewhat better on the D700, it has 51 pts. but i am not into action shots like sports or anything like that very much, i could just really use some tips and advice to guide me in the right direction here. I have been saving money for this for a while and i just want to be sure that i make the right decision. I am currently only using a Sony A300, nothing to special compared to these beasts, i am ready to move into pro-grade equipment, but i just could use some advice from some who have already used/ own the equipment.
