1.
That latest version of Lightroom to get the D500 NEF files to convert to DNG and OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 on a 27-inch Late 2012 iMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 with 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB graphics card.
Shun, thanks for the suggestion. Didn't even cross my mind. Funny how reliant we get on a personal workflow, in my case memory card readers, and not think of workarounds. I'll try to move to SD and import that way. Do you think it is the Camera to Computer via USB or is it Lightroom?

  2.
I am awaiting my XQD card reader, which should be here next week, so in the meantime I am using the USB cable to upload into Lightroom. Whether I shoot JPEG or NEF, each time I try to upload, the first try, Lightroom just spins. I have to force quit and do it again. The second time seems to always work. The other issue is I shot a short video today (son's piano recital piece, about 3 minutes) and Lightroom cannot upload it. I've tried a few times now. My Mac does recognize the D500 yet, so I cannot simply drop onto the desktop to wait for Adobe to fix the import issue.
Anyone else having issues? Similar issues? Suggestions on a fix?
Thanks,
Ben

  3.
Mike, I have had this happen in the past and there was a post last year with some others running into it (w/D300). It is hard to find an answer as I do not notice it until I download to my computer and review them in PS. So I do not know if it was the camera or PS, however, my guess it is the camera. Since the firmware updates and formatting my cards more often, it seems to decreased from last year. It definity happens in burst of 5 or more frames, but only happens once in a few hundred groups. Per-Christian, I use Lexar 4Gb 133x cards. I seem to recall the earlier post talked about the speed of the cards and the cameras buffer. It hasn't been so bad to send the camera to Nikon.

  4.
I currently shoot a Nikon D300 with my main sports lens a 70-200. Sometimes I wish I had more reach which has me looking at teleconverters. The Nikon 1.7 seems like the best fit, but I was wondering if anyone has ever used an off brand with good success. I have stuck with Nikon in the past and have never tried any off brand lenses. I would love a fast 300 or 400, even 500; however, if I had the money they would be mine by now.

  7.
I have a follow up question to the "Sports photos for sell" thread from Nicholas as I am in the same situation. After looking at some the referenced sites, it appears all the pictures taken at the event are posted. I have shot some events and posted all the pictures (a few hundred) and other times only picked out the top 50 or so to display on my website. Granted I have not sold through my website. My question is, do you post every picture or do you narrow it down to the top 50 or 100? I can see doing both or even putting the best 50 up front, then the rest. Do too many pictures become overwhelming to the buyers? Are you ever surprised by what sells? Your thoughts are appreciated.

  8.
Thank you for your input. It answers my second question of using the same lens for macro and sports. I really would love a 70-200 VR. I am leaning towards the Tamron 90 over the Nikon 105 VR due to cost. I might search eBay for a while for the Nikon 105 AF-D which appears in the $400 range used. Any food shots will be at home as well as most flowers. Thanks again.

  9.
I have been looking into various macro lenses mainly for flowers, bugs, and food. There are so many options (Nikon's 60 & 105, Tamron 90, Sigma 105, and Tokina 100) in addition to get something like the Canon 500D. The prices for the lenses above really vary, but all seem to get good reviews. Please help.
I currently have a D300 with an Nikon 18-200, 50 1.8, 50 2.0 MF and 100 2.8 MF lenses and 2 SB800's. I mainly shoot sports so I was also thinking of something to use for baseball in the spring and summer, so something with good auto focus abilities or am I asking for too much in a macro/baseball lens?
Thank you.

  10. This is my first post after reading the photo.net forums for a long time. Thank you to everyone for your input and repsonses.

I have the same set-up and have experienced the same problem when shooting a burst of 10 or more pictures on jpeg fine. My local photo store had not heard of it nor the Nikon rep when I asked at their demo days. I have assumed it is the card, Lexar 133x, and a faster card would fix it. It is hit or miss, but furstrating to have my baseball or paintball pictures out of order espically when shooting hundreds of pictures at an event. I am shooting with the grip to get more fps. Maybe someone with this problem and has tried a faster card will post.
