1.
Hello to everyone.

I have to make a shoot next week where I am about to use flash by hand (Brucek Gildensson).

I am a M6 TTL user and at the moment I don't mind of the benefits that modern flash units offer.
I just need a heavy duty extension cord that is compatible with the M6 and a flash unit which simply flashes of what it has.

I got a Nikon SC-17 remote cord which seems to have the same connectivity shoes as my Nikon DSLR cameras (D200-D700) and is perfect regarding its "heavy-dutyness" for my purposes.
Can I use this one on the M6 with a SIMPLE flash unit that hasn't any TTL rings and bells?
Can someone suggest of such a simple flash unit? (anything except china-made crap)

Thanks.

  2. Tristan thank you for your advice.

No, I have not looked at this yet. I've heard about something like a cloth strip inside the backdoor, but (believe it or not) I

never had the opportunity to check out the camera for this one, as it was always loaded with film. Also I wasn't aware that this one is

important for the issue of backdoor play.

I think that I will rewind my current one and checked the issue out.

    Question:

Is there a possibility to find in internet an exploded view (parts view, "blueprint") of the M6 camera, showing everything in

    the right order?

Guys, I really thank you for your help.

    J.J.

  3. Thanks Marcelo.

Unfortunately I am about to stay there for about 5 days..

I just hoped to find a lab in Berlin and have my camera initially checked up first thing I get there, and if needed a regular

service to leave it there for as long as I be in the town.

I suppose that the problem with my camera doesn't need an extensive work on it, it is about a damaged (or not

damaged) backdoor that needs to be replaced (or not).

So, I believe that a stay of 2-3 days in a local lab is kind of a rational time for having my M6 just checked up to find out

if the problem is really a problem and then if needed to have its backdoor replaced.

Even if I be informed that I need a new backdoor and they don't have it in Berlin, I don't mind if i ordered and received it

when I get back to Greece. I can replace it my self.

But the sure think is that i need my camera to be (at least) checked out by an expert.

  4. Hello to everybody.

As you may remember 1 week ago I've posted a problem about my M6 TTL backdoor which has a considerable (minor but progressive)

    play.

I am at the moment in Athens, Greece where an official Leica service lab, or a Leica expert workman (official or not) is a Walt Disney

    fantasy tale.

Next week I have to go to Berlin, and its going to be a wonderful occasion for me to leave my camera to an expert for a short period to

check it out and perhaps make the necessary repairs.

Are you aware of an official Leica service lab or a Leica expert workman in Berlin?

    Thanks.

    J.J.

  5. John nice to see you here!

Well, you are assume right. This issue bugs me a lot.

The truth is that I cannot accept to face the possible peak of the problem, like a sudden missing backdoor when I work

    in the field.

As I've mentioned in Lightstalkers, I am not a collector and the kind of work that I am into those days makes me feel

TERRIFIED thinking of even a single photo accidentally burned from light.

Also, here in Greece that I have to stay for a while during this specific work there is not an adequate (or capable) Leica

service where I can left my camera for an absolute short period.

Also the long lasting process of sending the camera to Germany and wait for 3 weeks (at best) to take it back, is

    unacceptable too.

As you see I am fairly cornered by this one and is really beyond my hand to fix it in any way.

I wish sometimes to be just a collector..

  6. Well, thank you all guys.

Tristan, it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable the fact that your backdoor(s) doesn't play at all.

The paint in the backdoor and also in camera's case is perfect.

The only sign that witness a possible over-swinging of the backdoor, are those tiny plastic bumpers which simply are a

    bit marked.

There is a small scratch (dent) on their surface.

That means that the play comes from the suffered hinges, or from the hinges's housing on the camera's case?

In other words, is there the possibility to replace the backdoor assembly with a new one and the wiggle problem still occur?

  7. Hello to all.

I am new to this community and actually this is my first post.

I got an M6 TTL which is in a fairly excellent overall condition, mechanically and cosmetically.

I think though, that there is a small (I hope) problem with the backdoor assembly.

When the backdoor is closed, film inside or not, it has a considerable play when someone push it towards inside using his thumb.

This take place when I push it at the top left corner and lately at the top right corner also.

When I say “a considerable play” I mean a course of about a half mm, with a feeling of a “spring-tense” of the backdoor to come out

again, right after I release my thumb from it.

So I push, then I hear the noise of the backdoor tοuching the backplate of the camera and when I release my thumb the backdoor

    comes in former position again.

There is also a play (again about a half mm) when I try to move the backdoor to the left or right, holding it from the ISO dial.

This really seems to be minor, but the fact that it get worse by using the camera it makes me wonder that one day as I shoot in the field

the backdoor will slip out of position with all the natural results that will occur, regarding film fatal exposure and backdoor damage or

    loss.

I bought the camera (TTL 0.58X) 3 months ago as a replacement for an M6 classic because I was tired of the boundary frames of the

28mm in the 0.72x viewfinder. I am working with this fellow, shooting about 25-30 rolls per week. I am not a collector and I don’t care

about cosmetics and appearance of the camera. I only worry for it to function properly and so far it seems it does.

The actual reason that made me worry with the backdoor issue is that it get worse by using the camera. I noticed a small play when I

pushed the top left corner 2 months ago and now this is relatively bigger and also transfered to the top right corner also.

So far I haven’t noticed any light coming into my negatives because of the tiny gap between backdoor and the camera, but as I

constantly working with this one I am not feeling comfortable and free to use as before.

I have my mind concentrated to the door all the time.

After I showed the camera to a non official Leica workman in Athens, Greece where I live and work this period, he came up with the

conclusion that there is not any problem as long as the backdoor leaves no light get inside and the contact pins are always in contact.

Can you guys please make the same tests in your M6s and let me know afterwards if there is this inside-out and left-right play in the

    backdoor?

I would be grateful if you do so.

Well, thank you in advance and sorry for my relatively poor English.

    J.J.
