It sure doesn't made the choice between the D7000/D300/D300s/(what?/how much?/when?... if ever) D400 any clearer.

KahHoe, your explanation is helpful. Many thanks.

Hi Mikael, thanks for your ideas. I always have mixed feelings about using large images for various reasons and maybe my thoughts are changing on that.
KahHoe, that's quite a list and I appreciate you taking the time. Can I ask why you think the copyright should be removed from the images? and it would be good if you can elaborate on your last point.
Cheers.

I changed my pet photography website www.ruffprints.com.au a little while ago but I am sure there are things that I could do to make improvements. I am thinking of maybe changing the web galleries to something other than flash galleries generated in Lightroom, so any suggestions would be good. But I would love to know what other suggestions/observations the good PN people might have generally. Thanks all.

Full Frame?

Shun, I try not take them seriously, it just adds to the confusion of what to do. It's almost as bad as googling medical things.
-
Full Frame?

Daniel, I am in a similar position to you, wondering what I should upgrade to from my old D200. I also want something that will give me the ability to up the ISO. I am seeing the rumours of replacement D700 and D90 coming very soon and the replacement for D90 having possibly a higher spec than the D300s (why I look at those rumour sites, I don't know). I like having the extra reach for my lenses that the DX body gives me and the D700 doesn't have the 100% view finder. Good dynamic range is also on my mind.
-

I have sat around a table discussing photographs with other photographers many times. Invariably, there is disagreement. Each liking and disliking in equal measure, different or even the same aspect of an image. I have come to the conclusion that I am always interested in peoples opinions of why they like or dislike something, then I make up my own mind whether I think that is valid for me. I have had lots of helpful criticism, a lot of which I end up disagreeing with. But it helps in seeing work from a different perspective, which also reinforces what makes images worthwhile for you.

I built my site using css and have flash galleries generated in Lightroom. I am interested in looking at the alternatives. I don't like sites done entirely in flash. I have read that HTML5 is supposed to save the day sometime soon. I am not in what way though.

Looking for a P&S and I am just about to submit my order for a Sony HX5V but thought I would ask if anyone has had experience with the Casio FH100 as alternative. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of reviews at the moment. I am interested in how the Image quality compares.

Tommy, I am also trying to buy a point and shoot to take with me in my pocket. I thought I had narrowed it down to Lumix zs7/tz10 or the sony hx5v. I had discounted the sx210 because of what I had read. I was thinking the longer zoom and hd video would just make it so much more flexible allrounder. On the other hand, they don't seem to get such great reviews on image quality. Now I am getting angry at myself for wasting so much time on making the decision. It is all still clear as mud. If the S90 even had an 7x zoom, it would make life easier.

black dogs, also black and white dogs, also black dogs with white dogs, also the inevitability of all of these combinations. but i still love 'em.

we took a chance on this boy a couple of years ago. he was unwanted in the shelter in a bad way mentally. it is has taken nearly 2 years for his manic behaviour to tone down. sometimes i thought i wouldn't be able to take it any longer. but he has given us his trust and loads of affection. he makes us laugh, he is always doing something hilarious, whether he is running around catching raindrops or playing with our other dog, he loves being alive and he shows it and we love seeing him happy. He knows he belongs and he has a family again. plus, he is cuddly.

Hi Alex. I have some images that I have taken in my portfolio with a lensbaby 3G. This image is an example... and another example. It can be quite hit and miss to use but i enjoy the blur when it works well. I haven't tried the new optic swap lensbabies yet. I would love to hear from people who have though.

I like Mike's 1 - 3 explanation of the motives of the all-pervading 3/3. I do wonder if the malevolent 3/3ers outnumber the sycophantic 7/7ers. It is kinda funny (funny ha-HA and funny peculiar).

Having black dogs and not being able to channel Harry Callahan.

Helen, I think there is something to what you say. I definitely don't think poor ratings automatically means poor image. Follow your 'photographic bliss' and you will end up with a one off genuine 'Helen Jenkins'. There is plenty of the usual bland generic formula shots out there. It does depend on what you want to achieve though.
Something else to consider when evaluating your own work. You might like some of your images because of an emotional response that comes from your memory of taking the shot and for others that feeling isn't quite captured in pixels.

my partner is not interested in photography but likes books and doesn't mind reading in odd places.

So if there are only 7 basic stories in the world, how many distinct PN threads are there, Lex? I do enjoy the cranky pedantic ones.
"50mm lens: 1.8 or 1.4?". Hmmm.....I was just wondering about that. Thanks Joe.
