OK thanks, ... 52mm.

What are the options for a replacement cap for the 43mm ltd? That is, I don't want to use the metal push on cap anymore, but I do want to use the hood. I recall hearing some film canister caps work, but I don'tknow which ones or if that's with the hood off.
how about a cap for the 21mm?
thanks.

Well, I'll say thanks for posting Marius.
P.S. Maybe next time you could also test every pentax lens in existence and take the average, to account for individual lens variations=P.

Well, I got it up to 1.10, but can't get 1.11 to work... oh well... thanks for the advice.

cripes, those goosey shots are... uh... impressive. I'm guessing all the shots in the macro set are hand held? the close ups of the vet look a bit blurry, but those lakes shots are just crystal clear. I guess i have to start saving now.
Thanks again Bryan.

but the 21 and 43 aren't WR, kinda defeats the purpose of gettin the k-7 don't it? they are nice for hiking though, I use them with the km. Sometimes, I wish they were the 15mm and a 70/77 instead.
Also, $2000 is a ton of money to me=) but then, I had more money (for camera stuff) as a student than I do now.

I formatted in camera. I went through the sequence around 5 times before I gave up, but never formated on the pc, maybe I'll try it both ways tonight.
thanks.

I don't have a Canon anymore, out of the 35 f2, the sigma 30mm, and the 28mm 1.8, I liked the 28mm 1.8 the best. it wasn't as good center as either fo the other 2, but the corners were better than the sigma, and I liked the build and focal length more than the 35 f2. Buy the L if you don't mind the size and cost (or buy a used 5D and a 50mm 1.4=). btw, 24L (mk1) is my favorite canon lens.

hey Johnathan, I'm just curious what lens you use for this. I think that Ascough guy, uses a 5DII with a bigger viewfinder than the k20D and L primes, that are f1.4 and 1.2. I think the more vf realestate and extra light from the f1.4s make it much easier to manual focus (and AF come to think of it).

hi yall, I couldn't update my firmware from 1.00 last night and I'm trying to figure out why. I'll list my steps below, but if you don't want to read that, any and all advice is appreciated. I found a couple of threads on Pentax forums, but it didn't help.

1. formatted card
2. downloaded update to desktop and extracted to desktop
3. drag and drop to top level of card (via camera cable, card reader isn't working)
4. turn off camera, disconnect from pc.
5. turn on camera holding the menu button.
camera starts up as normal, no update.

I don't have the camera with me now, but I'll be trying again after work. Did I miss a step? The only thing I can think of doing is to try a different card.

Thanks.

Cool, thanks Bryan. I know a macro isn't an ideal tele, but I figured since you were testing, might as well get all the angles in=) Cheers on the new lense... Happy Earf day.

-

Wow, thanks Bryan! Those originals look really excellent (double thanks for putting up original sizes)? I'll humbly and respectfully request some shots from a non-macro working distance. Just want to see what that bad boy can do as a telephoto. Thanks (either way=)!

Hey Marius, is the SDM on your 50-135 failed, unreliable, or something else? Just wondering because I haven't heard too much about pentax's woeful SDM lately.

You guys are killin me with all the new lens, new K7 talk!
Jeremiah, I had a 30mm sigma in Canon mount, it was fun, but the edges were so bad stopped down I couldn't take it. I wanted to use it as a walkaround, but my copy was mush edges at all apetures, so to me it was a F1.4-2.8 lens.
If Pentax ever produces the DA*30mm that will be all the WR I need! (and a k7, and a 50-135 and ...)

-

Hmm, ok, thanks... wasn't aware you had to stop down meter with it. Also I found another one on keh that says "Ricoh xpr mount" is that something differnt? there are no specs on the site and my search revealed only keh hits.
anywho, maybe I'll just try to find a vivitar F2.0 and manual focus.
Thanks y'alls.

-

Hmm, I think so, I didn't know there was another....=)

Hi, any of y'all have any experience with this lens? From what I've seen in reviews there aren't really any complaints. I'm thinkin about getting one only because it's faster than my 21mm.. and it's cheap.
thanks.

-

yeah, a bit explensive, but that sounds like (about) the same price as the other EVIL cams, which I think are selling ok, so I'm guessing it's marketing. If I wanted to own the EVIL market I'd probably make it cheaper, but I'm poor not rich so... what I'm really curious about is why is there a firmware update for the lenses if the camera isn't even out yet?=)

-

Or perhaps the 43mm 1.9, not as wide as the 31, but cheaper (and smaller). Also, it's faster than the 40mm for DoF. I've taken it on hikes and a few trips as an only lens... usually I also have a 21mm with me, but as a one lens solution you could do worse=)
I think really, you have to ask yourself what focal length you want, then you can determine which lense to get, what were your reasons for initially targeting the 40mm and the 70mm?

-

just wanted to say that the cheap canons don't really compare to the Pentax limiteds in contrast, color (IMO of course) and build quality. the usm on the 28mm and 50mm are really nice compared to pentax, but the 28mm 1.8 doesn't resolve all that well and the 50mm 1.4 AF has a history of breaking down (my AF functioned fine though).
I love L lenses (the 24Lv1 is probably my favorite lens because of it's speed and angle), but while they are faster they are a lot bigger...what I'm getting at is, saying one system is better than the other is a bit ridiculous. There are always trade-offs.

-

That's... really cool=)
did you actually see the murder take place? maybe he's trying to give beak to beak and this is all just a misunderstanding....?

-

This would be more fun if I had more lenses.
43mm
21mm
pretty much eqaul use.

-

I don't miss the top LCD either, I just look through the lens to make adjustments.
I have the 21mm and the 43mm, I considered the 15mm also, but I thought it would be too wide and too slow. The 21 just seems more versatile... of course I don't have the 15, so I'm not sure, but that's my feeling. For me the 21mm and 43mm isn't ideal, but for size, speed and IQ, cost, it's probably the best balance in the digital camera world (I know that's assuming a lot, but I have to justify my purchases=)
what I wish I had was 21, 43 (small walk about) and 31, 77 (larger, bigger apeture for flashless party type shots)... and all the other ltds=)

-

The little ones don't have USM and use the cameras motor to drive them... I think that's most of it... I like the size and the noise doesn't bother me much, but I do miss the 24L... that was one sweet lens, I miss 1.4=(
Also, unless you need the FTM focus, I like the 43mm over the 40mm... but I already told you I like speed.
enjoy.
And why? I assume they made them for me!

LBA help for a wide(ish) prime.
