1.
Doesn't look like it's going to happen on the 12th from what I can tell, and I'm frankly tired of waiting. Anyone have a theory on when it's likely to debut? If it's not announced this month I'm looking to Canon although I'd prefer staying with Nikon given a chance. Another possibility is to get a D750 but I don't want to go that route until I'm sure there's no chance of getting one of the ones with the flare problem. Theoretically any that show up at dealers should be ok since they were pulled from shelves recently. Additionally, I also don't want to spend money on full frame lenses because they be expensive suckers.
I wonder why there aren't any American dslr companies to compete with the Japanese companies. I've always wondered about that, but I suppose with the dropping sales that Bob mentioned this wouldn't be a great time to start one. If you ask me there are too few dslr makers, but oddly too many camera models ;)

 2.
Yes that law could certainly put the kibosh on anything but Landscape, architecture, and pet photography.

 3.
Oh yeah! I'll definitely be getting one, even if it turns out they're made by slave spiders paid in flies. I'm a socially unconscious person in case you haven't noticed. ;)

 4.
I too agree with the author in large part, and think that most of these over the top landscapes will not stand the test of time. When color saturation, contrast, and PP are used with such rabid abandon it is like an over sweet treat. Add to that, that when regular people go to these sites and see the real deal they're often left disappointed, because the place looks drab next to the concocted photograph.
In the long run I think the photographs that hold up best are the ones that don't stray too far from the real world, and have a recognizable individual style. Those do seem in short supply.

 5.
I don't know, Kevlar's kind of old school these days. I mean I have stereo speakers made from Kevlar that are almost 15 years old. Making a camera from Spider silk is really an exciting new application for a product that's been around for millions of years. It's a underutilized resource, and would be a marketing dream come true.
Spider farms will crop up all over the place, and provide thousands of high skilled careers for Spider wranglers. In the meantime Spiders might be trained to weave an entire camera themselves. Oh no, this definitely the best idea I've had in a long time. Who could reasonably disagree but an Arachnophobic. ;) ;)

 6.
You guys seem skeptical, I'm not sure what I've ever done to lose credibility. ;) ;)

 7.
I've just read that the soon to be announced Nikon D7200 will be manufactured in a revolutionary new way.
Like the D5300, and newer D5500, the D7200 will share the same monocoque construction. Unlike those two cameras it will replace the carbon fiber component with spider silk. The spider silk will give the new D7200 a body that is nearly bullet proof, and which is as light as a feather. The danger of losing your grip on the camera will also be greatly diminished owing to the spider silk. Anyone who has watched a moth trying to extricate itself from a sider's web knows full well that that stuff be sticky. In addition it's also ten times the strength of steel for those of us tough on our cameras.
Of course there's a possibility that I've made this entire story up out of whole cloth.......... very, very, strong whole cloth, made from spider's silk. ;) ;)

 8.
Ralph, you lucky dog. Lex sorry, I'm joining the Tararists.

 9.
Yes she surely does look hot, very hot, how did you manage to finagle yourself into such an enviable situation. Do you think she would lower herself to appear in a Squid movie? ;);)

 10.
And what I loved most about one, and two was the awesome attention to photographic detail. Each frame a masterwork in itself like a Renaissance painting. Don't get me started, but the exposures were just spot on. I'm thinking of pitching my idea for a movie called "Squidunami" in which the first wave washes in a thousand baby squids quickly pursued in the second wave by large angry momma squids.
As if people don't have enough on their plates just dealing with your ol'e garden variety Tsunami, I envision squids plucking people from windows, and rooftops where they've fled to escape the onrush of aqua.
I see a happy ending to the carnage though, as the hapless squids discover they've invaded the wrong Italian village and the local restaurant "Calamari's" is own by a local photographer/squid fisherman. I'm interested in what you think I can do to spice up my idea to sell to SYFI. ;)

 11.
Thanks Folks, yeah I know D750, and 6D are full frame but I really prefer cropped sensors if they're high quality. The cost of full frame lenses is a little off putting , as well as full frame weight generally, but the mentioned cameras are all ones I might make an exception for.
I admire the looks, and build quality of the K5, and K3 though. I was waiting for the D7200 which will most likely have a Sony sensor, but it's taking a month of Sundays to come out. Pentax uses Sony sensors in both the K3, and K5 as far as I know. That's why I'm a little surprised that the noise/dynamic range are different. In any event I'm going to give some thought to the Pentax as well. Does K5/K3 have user removable focusing screens? ;)

 12.
I've been thinking about getting a new Canon 6D, or a Nikon D750 because I'm tired of waiting for a new D7200 or whatever it will be called. That said, since the film days of the LX I've always had a soft spot for Pentax. The LX was in my opinion much underrated, and truth be told I wish I had bought one rather than the Nikon F3.
In any event I have some questions about the Pentax K5, and K3. I've noticed that both have a Sony sensor which is a good thing, but over at DXOmark it appears that in terms of highlight dynamic range at least the K5 has an edge. At the same time the K3 has 24mps compared with 16 for the K5.
Anyone who has experience with both cameras I'd be interested in which you prefer, and why. I'd also be interested in knowing the differences in the K5lls as well. Are the focusing screens user removable? Thanks. ;)

 13.
The Nikon D750 has this perhaps temporary issue with internal reflection, although if they fix that it will be a great camera. I compared it to several other cameras at Imaging Resource and found it fantastic at the higher isos . The 6D does look very good though even at it's regular price. ;)

 14.
Yeah, I get what you all are saying, but still it seems like a really disorganized operation. I mean what explanation is there for releasing the D5500, before the D7200. The D7100 is still operating on Expeed 3 while the D5300, and now the newer D5500 are a generation farther down the road.
I'm not sure that the notion of discontinuing DX models makes a lot of sense either, if other manufacturers continue to make cropped sensors. Is Nikon simply going to live on FX, and leave a whole huge segment of the market to Canon, Pentax, Sony.
You know when you look at all the quality control issues with D600, D800 focusing, and now the D750 internal reflections problem, it really makes one wonder who's at the helm. These things would have been cause for great shame in the Nikon company back in the film days. I still remember how they once responded to a lens that had nothing wrong with it, but was not as good as it could have been. They apologized profusely to all their customers for releasing a less than stellar lens.

 15.
I don't get Nikon in recent years. Today they apparently add yet another series 5000 camera little changed from the previous. I was in Best Buy the other day, and they're still selling D5200's, and D5300's. Meanwhile the D7100 is looking long in the tooth as these things go, and is arguably inferior to both the D5300, and the new D5500 in IQ terms.
Recently they released the D750 which by all early accounts was a stunner....well, except for a major flare problem. Previously there was the whole D600 imbroglio. Don't these guys test anything before release? It's getting hard not to see Nikon a Keystone cops.
I'm not a business guy so possibly there's something I'm missing, but I don't know what it might be. If not for the fact that Nikon still (in my opinion) produces the dslrs with the best image quality I would have switched to either Canon, Sony, or Pentax a year ago. I still might if this nonsense continues, because at some point one loses confidence in a manufacturer.
Anyway, does someone have a credible theory as to what's going on in Nikon house?

 16.
Doesn't look like the one thing that would make this of interest to me is there. A true pentaprism would make this camera the bees knees for people that like fewer features compared with the 7000 series.

 17.
It's you Bob, I've been thinking about getting a Canon 6D, but had some concerns, and wanted to find out if there were informed dissenting opinions. Lol, I've discovered that certain topics can't be discussed without food fights ensuing so I'll pm you. ;)

 18.
Bob Atkins! that be him. Thanks Guys ;)

 19.
Nah, I don't think so guys. I don't know maybe it was Ken Rockwell if he was ever a Canon guy, but I don't think it's him. Lol, is his name even allowed to be spoken here because it's literally not in the Nikon forums from what one guy said.

 20.
Nah it's not him, and he seems to be on the **** list in the Nikon forum. It's some other name, but for all I know maybe he's not around anymore. ;)

 21.
There is a guy that is essentially Canons equivalent of Thom Hogen. I can't remember his name, and I figure you guys would know. Back when I had a Canon 40D I would go to his site, but I can't even remember his name now. He seemed like a pretty serious guy. ;)

 22.
Well I guess JDM, but I would think adults can take it or leave it on the merits, or lack there of. You know that's the problem in the world today, to much thought policing going on ;)

 23.
The link I left was to Nikon Rumors, not Ken Rockwell, so I still don't get what JDM means.

 24.
I can't speak for others, but the statement tells me that there presently is no D400, or one on the drawing board, or one in the near future, or one planned. That's useful info to me. ;)
