Peter is so right. Weddings are one of the toughest disciplines in photography to shoot.Timelines, emotions, multiple personalities and a host of other sources that are out of our control affect our results.

-

You need to invest in some higher quality lenses to go with the 5D. Inferior lenses are one of the biggest drawbacks. I would rather shoot with a lower end body and the best lenses than to shoot with a great body and low end lenses.
Your "glass" will give you what you looking for in quality.

Appropriate lighting, posing and camera height can minimize their size. All TRADITIONALLY based studio techniques.

I have added on extra hardware to the system. More powerful CPU, optical drives (2), antenna, card readers.
Frank, thanks for the encouragement.

Thanks Colin. Keeping it simple, is it better just to upgrade to say a 650 power supply from the standard el cheapo supply that comes with pc's ?

Do underpowered supplies negatively affect the operation of a PC ? What is a good sized power supply for running higher end editing software programs and hardware ? External hard drives, card readers, etc.

Wide angle zoom 2.8. A 100 macro won't get used that much. The fast zoom will get used alot.

Buying equipment all the time just to have the latest and greatest. That will deplete your savings faster than being a drug fiend.

A solid contract is really necessary in wedding photography. There are so many things that can go wrong that are not the fault of the photographer yet you will get blamed for them.
My contract has prevented "issues" on several occasions with brides/moms (usually the moms) who tried to blame me for a host of issues out of my control. Unrealistic demands by clients trying to get something for free, using "emotion" (I.E. tears, sobs) to try to make me look like the big meanie, all in an effort to get some refund or something they aren't entitled to.
Referring them to your contract and it's stipulations "usually" nips it in the bud. And for those rare times where they actually filed a small claims suit, my contract was so iron clad that the commissioner actually asked the plaintiff "why they even bothered filing a claim".

If you photograph weddings, you should be a member of some organization that can assist you with your business protection.
PPA is great for that. I'm not trying to sell them, but they can assist you with your contract, insurance and attorney assistance for instances just like yours.
If you are going to operate a business, then it's paramount to protect YOUR business.

Someone with great business skills yet possesses mediocre talent will always be more successful monetarily than someone with great talent and poor business skills.

Mint 5D for $1200.00 !!! That's a steal of a deal !

Charge for your talent based on comparisons with other professionals. Since you are new, you pricing will have to be lower until you are an established professional.
It's impossible to tell you how much to charge.

One point missed here is that regulations vary from city to city concerning whether you are even allowed to run a business from your home. There are issues concerning hours of operation, parking, etc. Those regulations were created to maintain residential harmony and not allow them to turn into business free for alls.
I.E. mechanic Bob fixing cars in his driveway with cars everywhere, or a home business where clients are continually showing up at all hours of the day taking up street parking.
