  1. I am using a kodak 8500 dye-sub. Fast, sharp..ok flesh...but has a bit of green to it. Also, Reds and blues are

too dense and seeting a lower saturation in red and/or blue kills the rest of the image. The cost is about $1.65

    per print.

I am looking to get a new printer for sports portraits, teams, and other graphics. I am hoping to find one that is

vibrant in color as sharp as kodak, with better skin tones than the kodak. I was thing of staying with dye-sub

    because I know

exacally 100 sheet ribbon and 100 sheet paper...where Inks are hard to gauge.

    Any suggestions?

  2. Perhaps you should ask for his commissions of his $1 mill props he is selling...he may either be too cheap to buy images or he is strugglin big time...I would scare him with a cert letter informing you are charging him what you 2x what you normally license the image for and ...and if he doensn't take the image off immediately I would check his finances if he is still generating hi dollar I would deliver a suit.

    I change my mind SUE!

  3. Nice shots! One thing you may could try is shoot and make a proof book and leave it on the front desk and let

people thumb through it directing them to your site..or call you with the image number...

I find that simply having a flyer with a generic image and your website address on the desk is not enough to

drive traffic to your website. The proofs don't have to be high quality just enough to spark their interest and

to see themselves will increase the traffic to your site. Then add some discount hooks on the site..they dont

have to be a real discount just the perception they are getting a great deal.

Also, contribute a couple to the gym for display in a decent classic black frame with signed matte. Offer signed

matte framed prints as a product, perhaps adding their name to the matte and your signature.they love this..

Also, what might look cool is the add some grunge to the images -adding grain, mono noise and/or higher contrast

    in Photoshop.

  4. I shoot youth sports photography and was thinking of using green or white backgrounds so I could key out the

individual portraits and drop into a template background.

Has anyone found a fairly easy way of separating the subject from green/white keys to a new background and not

having green color/white color or artifacts in the hair. Or a technique to quickly remove and/or correct hair issues.

Reason is I process about 150 individual portrait images a week and to have to spend time removing left over

artifacts or color correcting hair for that many is... a bit more than I wish to spend.

  5. Nice shots Patrick...tell me now...what soccer mom/dad with a $300 digital can come out with images like these! But many think they can! Lord, Patrick, I do hope the parents of the kids you shot appreciate the quality and expression. Nice work.

  6. Do you have pop-ups disabled in IE...I run on XP also and some sites will freeze if pop-ups are disabled in IE..I

guess it doesnt like not being able to present ads to you...

Also, as Robert suggested go to Mozilla and look at Firefox and see if you may want to switch...I switched a few

years back and find it much more stable and secure. Pesky spyware likes the holes in IE security.

You may want to make sure you dont have a virus or a hijaked IE browser. A great anti virus is HijakThis by trend

Micro..it will scan and see if you have any BHO's attached to IE. If you do use this be careful..it will find

things that are needed...look for the results that have BHO...and see if something looks strange...if you have

issues and not sure..HijkThis has a submit report button that will post a report to the forum and experienced

    folks will help you...

And, the routine of clearing all of your cache, delete all files in your Temp Folder, All cookies and Temp

Internet files located in the C:/documents and setting/users(make sure you visit administor and all user

folders)/ local settings/(If local settings folder is not visible go to Tools at the top of the User folder you

are in and select tools/folder options/file types/then select the radio button that says show all hidden files and

    folders)

Open the temp and Temp Internet folders and HAND DELETE all files...make sure all applications are shut down so

files will be out of memory.

    Hope this helps.

  7. Yes Patrick! I can understand their pain!..will not go to vista..will switch to Mac before... I have to ask mommy

before I can open a door! Perhaps Adobe (PC) has done this build for Vista and xp->vista is very different.

And for Mac, I am glad Big Blaze is using it and not getting bitten by as many bugs as some of us have...but the

sharpen issue could be a bug..again seek the adobe support..

  8. I have to agree with Joseph. In todays market there is alot of competition and those willing to do anything for

the work. A commission back to the league is standard in competitive markets. Some are willing to give back as

much as 20 percent and rights...

however, these photographers can be amature, moms with a new toy etc...and dont give good images, mess up the

ordering, dont deliver..and if the league knows this normally they stay clear so not to upset the parents,

make the league look bad. Unfortunily it has made people shy away from ordering with promise of later

delivery if placing orders on location, especially if they cant see the image on location.

As Joseph states, showing proofs and print-on-site is the best way to score more money. For this though you

    will need:

a fairly skilled computer person that can multi-task:

    1) multiple flash cards coming in and move to computer,.

    2) organize the photos.

    3) print paper proofs of photos.

    4) print 8x10's or packaged photos....all on the fly and quickly under pressure...

A sales person to up-sale the images and help with orders to pass of to the tech.A color printer that can print

paper proofs fairly quickly and the tech to know how to run that and print

pictures on..my experience is larger proofs better sales. If you have a laptop to view images that is

ok..however, I found people hog the screen and in an event where time is money you loose people who are impatient..

A ink jet or dye-sub printer that can quickly print DECENT 8x10's..

Access to power, preferably in a place close so you can run extension cords to be visible to parents and players.

Tables for your laptop, and printers and one for the sales table.

Prices sheets for prints and things they can buy. And make sure to tell teh coordinator to either announce over

PA if they are using one or have a friend go around with flyers directing people to your table...

Trying to manage this can be abit tough for someone who has not done it before and I have had some real crazy

days in the beginning that flat out went into the toilet. Best to start with a very small group or one that no

one knows or cant pass on the info..or in another state!

    -----------

If you dont want to fuss with this you can print flyers with some catchy marketing and drive them to your website

to view proofs and order online...maybe even say 1 week only discount...and just use your normal price the add

20% to orders after that date after that.

Just make sure you have disabled right click and download image onyour website...many kids today know how to do

this and many want to upload their images to myspace..and rip off your image...a waste of your time and loss of

sale. If you dont know how to do the disable, then put a big ole copyright over the image and let them get some

    website traffic and free advertising.

Also, perhaps even having an email alert form on your site where they can fill in a family member, boyfriend or

whom ever email address and send a email to them notifying of images they can purchase..

    ------------

If you want to simply sale the CD to the league with rights...just charge extra and give the extra back to the

    league..

    Hope this helps

  9. If you using a digital camera then you have an infinite nuber of pictures to take and in New York there no ends

to cool stuff, everything in new york is interesting...

also, lens make for interesting results..ultra wides like fish eyes lenses for building, subways tunnels,

shooting down from very high up...zoom lenses with open apertures like 2.8 are great for getting close to people

that may have alot of character and street wear with blurred backgrounds and you can keep stealth...

Alleys, old doors, arches, organized and uniform lines in buildings, floors, stairs, tunnels etc.. night shots around

the square steam from streets and other night lit places, there are endless ideas..but...

...the best Idea place in the world is Google Search for new york photographers and see what they find

    interesting.. locations, angles, exposures, perspectives.

  10. I agree with patrick...photoshop with bridge are the holy grail of pro phtography. Photoshop is a pro image

manipulation software for color correcting, contrast correcting, cropping, effects and much more..and Bridge is

the program bundled with it for organizing you images. No one can match it.

There are plenty of good FREE tutorials on the net for photoshop, elements and bridge.. and even some nice video

tutorials for us visual aid folks.. Adobe has a 30 day trial..so when you have time to sit and learn thats a must

    for future.

Also Elements is a stripped down version of photoshop..I havent used it but it might be a good intro to photoshop.

Also, at first I would use the Canon software and play around with it..just make sure to make a copy of your

original images into a original image folder then play with the images in a duplicate folder...many times you

accidentally save images and if you dont like what you did then opps..I am sure all here agree.

for stiching I have used a few and found that PTGui is pretty good easy to use and creates good results. But many

stichers have free trials..just play and have fun.

  11. I havent experienced this either...however just asking here..when you are viewing your flat composite are you

viewing the 100% or maybe a 90%..also, if photoshop displays an image that is not in a proportional 100, 75, 50,

25 it kinda gives it a funky look. And photoshop does lower the contrast and change slightly when merging layers

    that have inks applyed or

Also, are you mac or pc..Mac OS X Leopard has had many issues with value setting.

I have XP and I had a some funky results for CS3 ..printing problem..cropping issues when printed...adobe had a

patch..however it still has some issues with the new print interface..I wish they didnt change it. Value changes

going back to default..and some other weird irritating things with actions and fonts. Its scary sometimes,

like russian roulette, especially when you have a fast turn project.

Anyway It is said that CS3 has many bug issues so I would check the forums and search google for some

forums or post the issue on Adobe. But definitely look for the updates and patches on their site.
