  1. Ours is 6 months old and just as R. Moreno I have had to do a lot of my shooting in low light in the evening. I have missed a flash very much and that is the number one on my list right now. My 35 mm f/2 has also seen a lot of use for head and upper body shots with nice out of focus background. I bought an 85 mm f/1.8 before the baby arrived, but that has seen very little use - it's just too long for indoors use - which is where the baby will probably spend most of it's first couple of months.
  2. I agree that issue of how big D30 prints can go is in the eye of the beholder. There are lots of full-size D30 images online to download and print yourself or send to a shop to see if it's good enough for you..

    Pekka has done some nice images using the D30 (not fullsize though) http://photography-on-the.net/gallery/list.php?exhibition=1

    Here's a link to a full-size JPG from a D30 ->

  3. I went from an EOS 50E to a D30 and I am loving it. That said, here are some thoughts:

    Your use of the pictures you take: Looking at your pictures on the screen and only occasionally printing makes you a prime candidate for a digital camera (but then you already knew that since you asked the question) because the workflow from taking a picture to having it on your computer is so much faster.

    Printing sizes: The D30 will print A4 very nicely and can go bigger too. See http://nyphotographics.com/blowupsample.htm http://nyphotographics.com/ftppage.htm#d30

    I use the D30 for prints up to A4 myself (also with cropping). The noise free images from the D30 are easy to upsample without introducig noise.

    Operation and speed of operation: The D30 is similar to other EOS's and much faster than the G2, IXUS V3 and Olympus C50 that I tried.

    Batteries: I find that batteries last a long while, however I don't shoot 1000 shots in a weekend as some people do. Third-party batteries are reportedly as good as the Canon ones, and are pretty cheap.

    Lenses: Because of the 1.6x multiplier effect of the D30 (and D60 and 10D), your may find that you need to replace your lenses.

    Flash: Your Sunpack won't work with either D30 or G3, they need Canon EX-series flashes or compatible ones (Metz 54 also works)

    My case: I didn't even consider the G3 because I knew that I wanted to use the lenses that I already had and because I wanted SLR operation.

    Hope this is useful..
