Thanks everyone. That really is just amazing! The difference between hand held and tripod mounted! I do notice now that I unconsciously compensate for the movement when I am holding the camera. Thanks again for the great assistance, as always!

That's what it reminded me of, a parallax correction! I have not noticed this before. I was using a tripod for the first time with this camera, but the shift seems so extreme I think I would have been aware of a shift even hand held.

I have an M7, about 3 or 4 years old, purchased new. When I focus, the entire
frame shifts laterally up or down. This happens regardless of the lens attached
at the time. The camera has not been abused, just the normal minor bumps or
tumbles. What am I seeing here and how much do you think it'll cost me? Thanks.

I have a M7, only a couple of years old, and I have noticed in a two or three
places a small "blister" in the camera covering. Nothing major, just annoying
for such a new camera. I don't really want to send it back, it's been in a
couple of times already for unrelated problems, but I would like to get rid of
these. Any suggestions short of having it re-covered? I wondered if the
adhesive they use is heat sensitive and I could use the tip of a warm mounting
iron, like used for mounting prints, to re-attach the cover. Thanks.

Alan, now that I think about it my M7 was still under standard warranty. I forgot the initial warranty is for 3 years, so it would have been under that still. But I did send my M7 in and had the shutter curtain replaced and CLA'd and it didn't cost me a cent. Sorry, I haven't looked at the warranty card in a while I guess.

Yes Alan, it is covered. I just had mine repaired a few months ago.

I see the reference frequently to LTM cameras and lenses. What, please, does
LTM stand for. Thank you.

It's working. I have NO idea what happened, but I put my 90 mm lens on and it meters fine, just like always! I hate a problem that corrects itself and you don't know why! I will keep an eye on it and see if it repeats itself. I think I will e-mail Leica just the same and see if they know what may have been going on.

Pico,
No, I have all brand new lenses: 90mm APO ASPH Summicro-M 2.0, 50mm Summicron-M 2.0, and 35mm Summicron-M 2.0 ASPH. I checked with the body cap on and it behaves the same way, just as you said. Guess it's bye-bye for a couple of months. Luckily it's still under warrancy! Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

Thanks Pico. With your information I removed the lens and it meters just fine. Why doesn't meter correctly with a lens in place?

I turned on my M7 this morning and this is displayed in the viewfinder after the
iso value disappears: 3.2" with the underexposure alert displaying above the
decimal point. This message flashes continually and does not change with
changing the iso or changing to DX. Any speed film gives the same display,
as does any lens. Nothing obvious inside the camera body that is out of
configuration. I have changed batteries and let the camera sit for a couple of
minutes before loading fresh batteries. Nothing helps. Is it time to call
Leica Service? Thanks.

Thanks Ronald for that link! Doesn't seem so serious after all. By the way, neglected to mention it is an M7, only a couple of years old. Thanks everyone!

I have just discovered a hole burned into my shutter curtain, presumably by the
lens! Holy Crap, I can't believe this! Everything I have read about the danger
of this sort of thing happening has been that it would have to sit for a very
long time in direct sunlight to occur! I never let my camera do that! So, how
much is this gonna cost me? I presume they will have to replace the entire
shutter curtain. Any ideas? Thanks.

You make some good points Lacey, I may actually just be holding the camera differently. I'll investigate that first before I buy the Shade.
Thanks.

Thanks Jonathan! THE SHADE is exactly what I was think of! I may give it a try and see how it works.

Hi all,
Just finished paying off my beautiful new APO-Summicron 90mm Asph and noticed
that the flare you sometimes see in the focusing area of the viewfinder is a
bit more pronounced than what I am used to with my 50mm, where I hardly
experience it. I remember seeing somewhere, an attachment I believe it was,
that diminishes this effect quite a bit. But I can't recall where I saw it.
Does anyone know of this, and where to purchase it? Thanks.

Bob,
I've not heard of zeroing a meter. How is that done? I use a Sekonic L-508 and the operating manual does not mention zeroing. Thanks.

The other day I met a fellow Leica shooter photographing with a
digital R8. After admiring his camera (I was very impressed. Quiet,
lighter by about half of the EOS 1N I used to shoot) I told him I
shoot with a M7 and was a devoted film user. He said he likes to
shoot digital because you tend to take more photos, which helps to
make a better photographer. I agreed that the more you shoot the
better, but I wasn't sold on the theory that digital makes you want to
shoot more. I thought about this for the rest of the day and came to
the same conclusion that I don't think I would shoot amy more or less
with a digital camera.
What do you guys that shot digital think? Is he right? And those
film users, do you think that using a digital camera would cause you
to take more photographs? Just curious. Thanks

There is a very good DVD/Cassette available from www.checkerboardfilms.org titled "Ralph Gibson: Photographer/Book Artist". It is basically Ralph discussing the evolution of his books and work, along with interviews with other photographers and his muse, Mary Jane Marcasiano. I would highly recommend this to any Gibson fan. It's a short film, only 28 minutes, but is the next best thing to attending one of his workshops.

The Nelson Atkins museum of Art in KC is one of the premier art museums in the country. It houses one of the largest Chinese art collections outside of China. The Nelson is worth a trip to Kansas City just to see this impressive museum, as anyone who has actually been there will easily tell you, and now with the acquisition of the Hallmark collection, it's preeminence as a cultural destination is assured. It has always been my favorite place in the city, inside and out. I have spent many afternoons there enjoying it's atmosphere and art. Kansas City also has one of the most burgeoning arts communities in the country, with new galleries opening everywhere. Come and stay for First Friday's, where the first friday of each month the city's galleries are open all evening and patrons can wander in and out at their leisure. It takes on the atmosphere of a huge street party stretching for blocks through the city's arts districts. So, do come and see the Hallmark collection, and stay for the art!

Kansas City Missouri. Happily attached to my M7/50mm Summ. And Arthur Bryant's BBQ. And Gates BBQ. And Jazz.

Just downloaded Firefox. I think I'm gonna like this!

Has anyone else noticed their browser crashing since Pnet began the
newest marketing gimmick ("The following words have been
removed...")? It seems a coincidence that this never occured before
now. Whenever I click on a posting, then attempt to return to the
forum, my computer crashes. Good old Windows, I know this happens
occasionally, but this seems very suspicious. And very annoying.
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing it.

I have one of Ralph's straps. It is a wrist strap, perfect for handling a "M". Not one of Luigi's though, it has a bit more complex braid.
Still have the darkroom?
