Aperture by the British museum have second hand and I am told are very good to deal with. I always deal with Ffordes though and find their prices to be reasonable compared to the London dealers.

I never knew that it ran through the suburbs in such a way. Great picture.

Shoot Fuji slide film but presently using K64 .The large drug store chain in the UK , Boots, have it and other film on a buy two get one free offer, the only hassle is having to post it (£1.20) and waiting the two weeks before it completes its `round the world trip :). Projected on to a foam board screen (an idea that I picked up from this forum) using a LEICA P600.....nothing comes close.

You`re very kind ,Jack. thank you.

Sorry ,not posted here for a while and seem to have posted my own picture in the wrong part of the forum. This appears to be a thread where others pick a fav photo. Apologies but cannot seem to delete it. Please ignore.

Don`t remember this one but I do have a Chinon CX. Sat here on my desk.I think that it cost me £25 back in the `70s with its 55 m lens. Always had Kodachrome in it ,either 25,64 or sometimes 200. Still have all those slides and can now scan them into my PC thirty five years later.Twenty five quid well spent I feel.

Great thread and is why I too use old cameras except ,as somebody has already said, they are not old to me !I still have and use my dad`s 1930 Hawkette 2 which he took to India and Burma in WW2.I also use an M3 and M2 and like to imagine the many happy family photos taken by them over the years . Leon, that picture of you and your father sums it up for me . Did I mention that they are fun to use ?

Really good thread. I bought an M3 and paired it with the Nockton SC 40m. Recently bought a Leica 90 2.8 Elmarit m.The point is ,I am happy to mix and match depending on price, quality and the amount of usage that I will put the lense to. The helpful opinion which has always been the hallmark of this forum has often proved invaluable to me in making these decisions. Please continue to provide it.

Very good to deal with. I have bought an M3 ,a Sekonic 308 and a Pradovit P600 from them.
I think that the real test of a good store is when something goes wrong. It did with the Pradovit. They arranged for it to be picked up the next day ,gave it a full service and repair and it was returned within about two weeks. First class service. The trouble is that you think twice before going elsewhere. Their prices are reasonable and their used descriptions very conservative.

Happy Christmas to everyone and let us all hope for a happy and safe New Year.

Well that is very impressive. A used three is retailing here in the UK for £299 (whatever that is these days). As for the weather, well its three o`clock ,already going dark and its been dull gray and raining for days. In fact most of the summer. Contrasty it isn`t !

Bloomin hec (as we say in the UK, well in the North any way !) that does look cold. How many feet of snow is that ?
The camera seemed to handle what must have been a tricky exposure.

I am new here so I hesitate to involve myself in discusions such as these but I am not clear about just what it is that Mr Edelstein is suggesting. Is the the suggestion that Leica are selling a techically inferior product at an inflated price or that people are in some way being deceived into buying them on the basis that is not so and that they represent good value for money ?
I should add that I do not have an M8 only an old M3 and a beat up old Pentax ME.
My next purchase might well be an R or an SL rather than an M8 based on the quality which I have seen from Mr Herr .Don`t know or care about what any test results might reveal. It is all about enjoyment is it not. I may be just me being naive and failing to understand the passion which these debates seem to generate.

I too use Fuji slide here in the UK.
When I got my first slides back from their lab, and looked at the scan they did I was dissapointed. They were all very dark . Just coming back into this after a 15 year break I naturally thought that it was my duff exposure but to be fair the slides were ok. Incidently Fuji have changed their lab from the one in Warwick to one up in Leeds. It might be better.
I have another to send them and then I am going to try the Jessop mailer option.

I have used a pair of 10x40 Trinovids since the eighties for birding. Never regretted buying them and although the latest versions are slightly better ,they are not that much better. The Trinovids can more than hold their own.
When I was contemplating buying them somebody said that I would not see any more birds through them than I would a cheaper pair!
Very true but the pleasure in using them and the quality of the view is more than enough compensation for a quite day in the field.
Leica binos (and to some extent the R system) is championed over here in the UK by TV presenter (and one time member of the group that spawned Monty Python) Bill Odie.

Got it today and can confirm that it has Pradovit P 600 on the front. Unfortunatly that is all that I can confirm as it had a number of faults not least that an internal blind was not clearing sufficiently thus obsuring half the image !
Spoke to Ffordes and they will arrange to pick it up Monday and correct the faults.Thank goodness I was dealing with them.
I hope to be soon basking in the (projected) Leica glow.

Thank you . That was helpful. I have decided to go with the P600. I cannot test it out before hand but I am buying from Ffordes in Scotland ,who I have bought from in the past ,and they are good to deal with.At £300 it seems to represent good value for what I require compared to the cica £750 for an RTM.
It is not the IR model but comes with a FF lense,so I will have to see how that works with my old Kodak slides (do not fancy glass mounting 300 slides !) .
David
Ffordes have taken the picture off their web site now but I am sure that the projector had Pradovit 600 on the front. Should get it tomorrow (Friday) so I will check and let you know.
Once again thank you all . Your collective experience has been very useful

Thank you Ronald ,Arthur and David. I had forgotten the flat and curved field lense isssue. Most of mine are cardboard Kodak 64 slides dating from the 70`s but the recent ones are plastic mounts. May be a compromise is required or two lenses !
David, I think that your wife is correct. I have only come back to this recently ,after a absence of 15 years ,and am amazed all over again with the quality of slides.

Don`t know if there is still any interest out there in projectors but I am thinking of upgrading an old Hannimex
projector for a P600.Before I make the decision I am wondering whether there is any qualitative difference in
something like an RTM over the P600. Build ,quality of projection ?
That may seem odd question given the difference in price but I clearly want to make the correct choice and ,as I only
intend to use it at home, to decide which will be most cost effective solution.
Thank you in anticipation.
