<p>For serious jobs, where they blow up the images very large and quality is important, you may need to use a negative ISO, maybe something like -200. The option is in the custom settings somewhere, give it a try.</p>

<p>The Tamron is not awful wide open, it's actually pretty sharp. It was shown to be better in comparisons against the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8. I have the non-VC version and I get consistently sharp images and I shoot at f/2.8 95% of the time. I've heard that the Sigma 17-70 is pretty sharp as well, but I've never used it and I don't want to make assumptions. It makes you look misinformed.</p>

<p>XT (350D) or XS (1000D)? I don't know what you like to shoot, but do you not have a need for a wide end? Going to 24-28mm from a 50mm is a pretty big jump, but it's still going to give you a roughly normal FOV. Anyway, like I said, it's hard to tell you what to do when I don't know anything about you. I don't know why the 28-135 is even an option as a kit lens with an APS-C camera, its such a weird range, but if you only want a normal to telephoto range, it works for you. The solution really depends on if you want better image quality or better performance.</p>

<p>I'd rather have it in the lens because you're going to have the lens longer than the body. Its better to pay the premium once for the lens than have to pay it every time you upgrade cameras. On one hand, I guess that's got its downsides too, because if they come out with some kinda 6-stop IS, you'll still be stuck with the old version. It is a plus to be able to see the IS working, especially at longer focal lengths.</p>

<p>I believe the Sigma and Tamron ultrawides can be physically mounted on a FF body, with vignetting. I think only Canon's own EF-S mount is the one with the protruding element in the back.</p>

<p>The same thing happens with my 430 EX, so it's not just a 580 thing. I do know that NiMH batteries will lose power over time naturally, whether they are in a flash or not. Three weeks sounds pretty generous, batteries usually don't last over a week in mine, I thought that was normal.</p>

<p>Why not get a 40D instead of a 50D and put even MORE money into glass? That takes care of your video problem too :).Anyway, you touched on makers packing too many pixels into the cams without focus on other things, and I think the 50D is an example of that. If a 30D suited you fine, you'll love the 40D. Understand that I don't have a 50D, never touched one, but I read things. A lot of things. The only thing I'd want it for is the microadjustment for the lenses. However, I think the overall image quality, expecially when it comes to noise, makes up for it on the 40D. I think that's all I'm going to say about that, others might have great things to say about the 50D, and maybe their right. I'm just telling you some stuff that other people have been saying about some stuff. Have a good time with your shopping.</p>

<p>I have the same problem with my gripped 40D. Freshly charged batteries show up as low after about half an hour. I unscrew the grip and then put it back on, then it's good for a few more minutes. Maybe someone with knowledges can help us both.</p>

<p>I don't like all those chemicals on me, so I just run the whole time I'm taking pictures, the bugs can't keep up. You just need a really fast shutter speed and a quick eye. If you're using a tripod, you can just leave it where you want it and hit the shutter release while you run past. As for ticks, I cut out the middle man and just wear peanut butter or vaseline all over my body from the start. Why wait until they're on you to use these remedies?</p>

Anyway, as 90% of today's photographers think that focal length changes depending on the format used, I was just being safe.</p>
