Painting, while often a documentary effort, very seldom approaches reality. When it does we go "Wow, that looks so lifelike!" and are amazed at the painter's skill and effort. Here we have the opposite, a digital image manipulated in Photoshop, to make it less lifelike, more like a painting (or magazine illustration, which this reminds me of). I typically find this treatment tedious, but in this case I think it works and works well. Sergio has a number of images in his gallery that utilize this technique as well as a great body of traditional work which is most excellent. This guy does so much, and so much *well* that I think the pn elves could have closed their eyes and picked any of his photos at random for POTW. The guy is good, and this is a delightful image as presented and created.

, Dec 10, 2013; 09:27 a.m.Just to stir the pot a little, what does one make of how all the lines from the man's groin lead to, converge on, the de-stallionized, gelded, neutered, castrated private parts of the horse?
How do we know the man isn't a eunuch? Adds a whole new complexity eh? :)
Back to the image, it's nice, one of the better POTW we've had. I like the color and the sharp and unsharp areas. I think the angle of view makes it quite compelling.

As another dog fancier, I love this portrait. There are things that certainly could be done different but maybe not better. My only nitpick is that perhaps it would have been best to wipe the dog's eyes before the shoot. Not always easy to remember to do, in the heat of the shoot. :)
And one other note - black dogs are notoriously hard to capture. In over 15 years of life with my beloved Lupo, I can say I have fewer than 50 good shots of him. This was mainly in the film days and that was even harder.

More to the point, its an interesting image. Unique, compared to what one normally sees in this forum. I am not sure its something I would hang on my wall but I do appreciate it. Images such as this demonstrate a high degree of photographic and digital skill as well as creativity. I admire that. This is an excellent, refreshing image.
Pinkie said it much more eloquently. :)

As Pinkie Dinkie Doo would say, "Now that's something you don't see every day..."

It's an interesting visual from the very essence of perception. Western civilization dictates hairlessness as feminine, so the armpits and often crotch are frequently shaved bare, the latter, especially for photography. But when we think of "stubble" or an overnight shadow we think of men, and the unkemptness of such a man. So this image strikes me as both very masculine and yet feminine too. Vulgar even, combining beauty and the beast. I like it. :)

Interesting film choice. Delta 3200's grain is quite evident, making the skin appear un-smooth and perhaps even aged.

This is very nice. Excellent lighting and sharpness. Perhaps the only critical recommendation would be to shoot from the other side, showing the ring more prominently.

This is really very nice. It evokes thoughts of finding a castaway girl washed up on the beach. I wish the bracelet was removed though, seems oddly distracting or out of place in this otherwise totally natural looking, serne scene.
Thank you for sharing it.

Very nice image. I think it would be stronger as a nude (rather than a naked lady) if there was less DOF - making the background blurry. It strikes me as cluttered. Still, nicely captured. Was this a film or a digital image? It has a great dynamic range that makes me think film, but the great DOF makes me think digital.

I'm not surprised there aren't more comments, so let me simply say wow... this is great stuff. This is as fine a work as I've seen in a long time. Could very easily hang in an art museum.
Thank you for sharing it!

This is very nice, almost like a sepia toned or maybe some sort of bromide tinted print. It's interesting that there are several reflective surfaces near the model but her reflection isn't in any of them. Natural? Or was she photoshopped-in? Either way, an excellent image. Warm and gentle, very old-world like a fine painting. Bravo!

I like this one a lot. I do wonder if you see much grain with the RZ and HP5+ at 16x20? My personal favorite B&W film is Acros and I can't help but wonder how such a beautiful model and great light might combine on that particular emulsion. I do love the low contrast, excellent tonal range you've achieved with HP5+. The pose, the light, all are superb in this image.

Less DOF would isolate her better, but with lower-end lenses and crop DSLRs, depth of field is unmanageable in most situations.

I too like this one, a lot. The color is a very nice combination - not too much contrast with the model's pale skin tones, but just enough to make her stand out. The pose is alluring, suggestive, but not exactly erotic. All in all a photo which has a "mysterious" quality to it, and I like it. I do get the feeling though, that it's going to be used in an ad someplace. The expanse of yellow wall on the left seems purposefully left there for some slogan or such.

What a superb image. Thank you for sharing it! I haven't commented on an image here in a long time but wow, this is ethereal.

Photos were amazing when they were taken with skill, not the lucky "great shot" out of the two thousand taken. Digital has removed that. Twenty years ago this photo would have been amazing. Today it's just another beautiful bird/snake/cat picture against a backdrop of zillions of other beautiful bird/snake/cat pictures.
Thanks, digital, for making the beautiful, cheap.
Oh, and nice picture, BTW.
Bad news...?!

Maybe I'm just too easily provoked, but this picture strikes a nerve. It's a strong statement of careless disregard for safety. Excellent in so many ways.
I work in a University town and this sort of thing is all too common, although usually with pedestrians. They blindly walk into people while glued to their all-important screen.
I've always said, if you crash into me because you're on your cell phone, pray to god it's a small phone - because it's next act will be mimicking a suppository.
