    The Kitchen

          10

In the desert ghost town of Kolmanskop in southern Namibia time

has stood still since the moment its inhabitants - who were working in

the diamond mining industry - abandoned the place in the fifties of

    the twentieth century.

Really like this vertical landscape composition; in this way it has much of an abstract. Pleasing colortones and cloud paterns. Well done !   Best regards, Karin.

Really amazing capture: otherworldly to look at, and definitely the best I have ever seen of northern lights: this will become a classic ! Thanks so much for sharing. Best regards, Karin.

  1. Thanks to you all for your comments and encouragement !

To Jeff, this is one shot for which I used a soft ND 0.9 on the right half of the image; I also darkened the upper right corner a little bit in post. I have more shots of the rock I called the curtain because it reminds me of one. For this one I focused on the tones in the late evening light reflecting the blue/green colors of the sea, and the black basalt sand beach. Best regards, and thanks again for your intrest in this work, Karin.

    Great Grey Owl

Magnificent capture ! I agree with Theodore regarding the framing though: I suppose what bothers me a little bit is the fact that the circular contour of the owl seems to be slightly cut off at the lower end. Secondly, the yellow/orange structure to the left side of its head distracts some attention from its eyes: maybe you could tone that a bit down in post ? But let there be no misunderstanding: this is a great image to look at ! Best regards, Karin.

Wonderful capture. I especially like it a lot that the black trees were kept sharp despite the - intentional - vertical blurification, which gives the image a very impressionistic look. Very well executed. Best regards, Karin.
