Looking at photos like this is what inspires me to learn more about technique and compostion. Beautiful work. Trying to analyze what is good here (so I can learn and "steal"), I notice the wood has strong textures, and of course as you get out to the horizon, the textures of the surroundings are softer.
Your timing in lighting was perfect for the shot. There may be times when this sky has richer colors, but not better for this subject.
I know conventional wisdom is to crop out more sky, but I think the strength of the lower half of the frame needs some counter balance with that open sky. I would keep it as is.

I shot this last summer before I knew of raw, or had a sense of lighting -
still there's not much I would change - except for the crop. The original
shot has the whole nest, with some wood flooring on the left. I used a
rough rule of thirds to crop this, but in some common portrait sizes, it
ends up more off-center than properly framed, so I do a centered crop.
Would appreciate insight on this as an example of whether to follow or
break the rule of thirds.

I appreciate all the kind words and specific constructive criticism.

This pig is sleeping, it is not dead or sick. I grabbed the shot at a
fair, lifting the camera over the cage. I believe I got an interesting
light here, but I really want others' reactions.
