1.
First some quick thoughts on some of the submissions so far:
Doug's sisters is just a fantastic shot.

Tony's poplars is very nicely laid out. When I first saw it I thought it was Camus.

Robert's on the water is great.

I like Michael's Port of Tacoma.

Sigmar's abstract gets my attention.

Camus's stuff always impresses me, the driver shot is great.

This is just the stuff that really jumped out at me. I think this weeks submissions have been really good from everyone so far.

I have three more HDRs for this weeks submissions. I recently bought Photomatix and have been living the old saying that if you give a guy a hammer every problem looks like a nail.

First up is a digital version of the sunset I shot on film last week.

00V1Hn-191117684.jpg.7b7d4d9cc20f2e152197b5dbc5c21f42.jpg

 2.
Scaffolding from a local school under construction made a nice pattern to work into a dramatic sunset. I really like the results from Velvia 100 when it is nearly dark.

00Uxee-188555784.jpg.ff3eafef60b0b00faa7db681a7752e3a.jpg

 3.
Been out of the habit of posting on the POTW for a few months and miss it. Guess it is time to jump back in.

I'll start with my favorites this week so far. I really like Haig's first and last photos. Nick's morning shadow is nice. And Dave's dad looks like he is still full of piss and vinegar.

I've been playing with HDR quite a bit lately when doing digital. It is really is easy to crank things up too much. Hope these are not great examples of that.

I've also been doing some film and the last photo is Velvia 100 with a Super Program. Scanning is quite the challenge but I really love playing with film.

This first shot was done this evening at Smith Rocks here in Central Oregon. It is a world class climbing area and really interesting rock formation.

00UxeN-188553584.jpg.a7221cf6ae78791e24dc6691ec302087.jpg

 4.
Hello,
I'm brand new to the classic and film arena, and fairly new to digital. I picked up a Voigtlander Bessa and Zeiss Super Ikonta 531 yesterday off of Craigslist for what seemed like a good deal.
I have been trying to figure out how they work and it seems like I am in good shape except for some trouble with the shutter cocking lever being stuck on the Bessa.
It seemed to work right until I moved the button underneath to allow it to go past its normal cocking position, now it does not move when I hit the shutter release. If I had to guess I would think this button and mechanism have something to do with a self timer, but it is only a guess. I haven't been able to figure out how to get the lever back to its "normal" position.
Here is a photo of the button and cocking lever. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong?

00UvUX-187093584.jpg.7e52faf3b8e806df8bfd7a2e0ac4dc0b.jpg

 5.
I've still got several photos from my Alaska trip to show so I'll stick to those for a while.
First up is a sheep from Radium Hot Springs in Canada. The sheep are wild but have accomodated to people and we drove up on this guy at sunset .

00TyyP-156293884.jpg.5ecbb6652bd7c24e9536112952aa8272.jpg

 6.
On the way back we ran into another moma bear with this years twin cubs. It would have been perfect, the cubs were really cute and were actually wrestling with each other. But the light was fading and we were a little far from them. The first two shots were not cropped, this one is about 50%.

00TuiV-153785584.jpg.145c813434d44a289ae4bfcc46d195fa.jpg

 7.
On our recent Alaska vacation, we saw tons of bears nearly everywhere we went. While fishing on the Russian river I looked up from tying on my fly and saw a black bear about 10 meters from one of the folks I was fishing with. She was also busy with her tackle and after I yelled "hey bear get out of here" she looked up with a jolt.
The bear was very bold and didn't give an inch when we hollered and waved our arms. I grabbed my backpack (with the food in it) and headed upstream with my fishing partner. The bear went over to inspect my tackle and fishing equipment before finally shuffling up the hill. I had my pepper spray out and ready to go, a couple of times when he started to advance I almost pulled the trigger.
I didn't have my camera along for this encounter (I don't think I would have gotten it out actually) but we did see a lot of bears on the drive up through Canada.

00TuiE-153781584.jpg.cbfce3dcaaa794cc572dd500352e9f39.jpg

 8.
I was able to drive up and back to Alaska from Oregon over this last month. One of the highlights of the trip was a side trip to the Kennicott mine in the Wrangell-St. Elias national park. It was a large copper mine running from about 1910 to 1938. It's remoteness has kept it largely intact and it happens to be in an absolutely beautiful spot.
The road into Kennicott follows the old rail tracks and is just awful. The park ranger (who we awoke from her nap outside as we drove in) said we were the first motorhome to make the 48 mile drive this year. I guess that makes us the dumbest motorhomers in Alaska, but it was worth it.
This is the main building where they crushed and sorted the ore. One of the largest wooden structures in the world, 13 stories tall if I remember correctly.

00Tqfx-151329684.jpg.21a0cab296ee5163b181c965e9e068a6.jpg

 9.
All three of my photos this week are using wireless off camera flash. It is fun to play with but I wish it was more reliable. Seems like it works about 80-90% of the time.
First one came about during a rest period from bed jumping.

00TS1F-137383784.jpg.9b141d681fe470921bce5acfa2743f5b.jpg

 10.
Andrew G., I have that same focusing problem with my DA12-24 and K10d. Kind of annoying, but it usually comes out of its misfocus without much coaxing. The thing that bugs me is the purple fringe, you can work around it, but I don't have good software so it takes a while.

 11.
Spring seems to be my theme this week, it is busting out everywhere.
First up is a experiment with backlighting. I used a remote flash behind the flower and had varied natural lighting as there was about 50% cloud cover. Lots of shots taken with different amounts of natural light and flash, this was my favorite with some pretty strong sunlight.

00T2Yu-124163584.jpg.fb8bdd78d769c8d6dd69cc505047a316.jpg
