1.
Hi Everyone,
I just got an old Beseler 23C condenser enlarger and the lamp isn't working. I plugged it in and flipped the switch and nothing. I'm hoping the bulb is just bad but if not the lamp cap and power cord needs to be replaced. My question is would the lamp cap assembly for the 23CIII work for it? It looks exactly the same but its black and not blue like mine. The bulb in mine is the PH111A bayonet mount and the one for the 23CIII is the screw in PH140. I believe they're both 75watts. If anyone has had any experience with these and could help it would be greatly appreciated. Here is a link to the lamp cap that I'm wonder if it would work on mine:
Thanks,
2.
Yes, we will be doing developing and printing, both b/w and color. I don't think we'll be getting to use large format cameras. I know there is a dedicated class for large format and another 400 level class you have to do architecture shots with the large format camera.

 3.
I'm in college and the film class is required for the photo major. It is a 16 week long course. After reading the responses and thinking about it a little more I think I'm going to hold on to the 17-55 and get the 35 F/2 to have a wide-angle for my film body. I'll save the extra money for the film, paper, and all the chemistry I'll have to buy. I'd be fine with the non-IS just wish it didn't sound like a bag of mosquitos. LoL
Thanks Again!

 4.
Hi All,
So I am going to be taking a film class in the Spring and I need help on deciding what lens or lenses to purchase. I own the EF-S 17-55 but as we all know that won't work on a film camera. I will be selling it, to help pay for the new lenses, so I've been looking for things in that focal range. I have a 50 F/1.4 and 70-200 F/2.8 so that end is covered. I was looking at the combo of the Canon 20mm F/2.8 and the new Canon 35 F/2 IS or the Canon 16-35 F/2.8. The 16-35 will be pushing my budget once the sales end. I'd like to keep it around $1400 and 2.8 or faster. I also considered the new Canon 24 F/2.8 IS but was wondering if the gap between being used to 17mm and 24mm would be too much of a difference on my digital crop body. Any advice will be appreciated. I am just wanting to have all the ranges covered.
Thanks
5.
Hi All,
I have been asked to research different studio lighting options for my university's museum. They will be using these to photograph paintings and drawings, framed and unframed, with and without glass, ranging from 4" tall up to 8' tall. They want to buy strobes that will last awhile and have a budget of $2500. What brand, model, number of strobes, and light modifiers do you recommend? Pack and head system or monolights? These will be used in a small studio or controlled environment.

Thanks!
6.
Hi all,
I need help shooting this teapot. All I have to work with is a 4x4 cubelite, 2 lowel tota constant lights, 1 light with large soft box, and an 18-55mm lens. I tried shooting it in the tent but I don't like the results. There are way too many reflections. Can anyone give me any quick advice on this?
Thanks!

00aeSS-484871584.thumb.jpg.50dae6e579b38c384b81253058065f72.jpg

 7.
Thanks so far! I'm actually borrowing a 7D from my friend to test with tomorrow. Great video Scott, Thanks! The price plays somewhat of a factor. If I do go with the MKIII it will eliminate any studio equipment I wanted. But the higher ISO capabilities may make up for that. I usually use my two AlienBee 800's when shooting derby and was looking at getting the Einsteins.

 8.
So, this on going war in my head of what to upgrade to is coming to a close at the end of the summer. As I've posted before that I shoot roller derby but I also enjoy portraits and one day soon want to open my own studio when I finish school. I was planning on getting to 7D and have money for glass and studio equipment but my question I guess is could the 5D MKIII handle shooting sports with it's new auto-focus system which I read is the same as the 1DX (I could have misread that somewhere)? I often shoot in skating rinks that are very dimly lit and need something that will handle LOW-light situations. Any compare and contrast between the two would be awesome. Thanks in advance for all and any help.

 9.
Hi Everyone,
So I'm about to start shooting a bunch dioramas that are in wooden boxes with glass on both sides so you can see in. My Problem comes when trying to do close-ups. Shooting the full diorama is fine but when go to shoot close-ups I get all kinds of glare and reflections. I can not take anything apart either. Next problem is there is no budget for upgrading any lighting or camera equipment. This is what I got to work with:
Canon Rebel XSi with 18-55 EF-s kit lens
2 - 750watt halogen lights with white umbrellas
1 - 1000watt halogen light with 24x36 softbox
This is what I got to work with and have no say in the matter. So if anyone has any kind of help it would be most appreciated. I'm posting some photos of the full diorama and a close-up.
Thanks!
10.
Hi,
I recently got a job photographing artifacts for a university museum. The studio lighting set that I have to use is giving me trouble. The system is a Speedotron Model D402, has 3 heads and the power pack. I'm only using 2 of the heads. I have the pack wired to my camera using the Speedotron sync cable and a Wein hotshoe adapter. My problem is the head that is in port 1 misfires more than enough times to be aggravating. I don't know what the problem could be exactly. The model lamps work fine The system looks rather old, well the case it came in looks to be 70's or 80's. Any insight anyone may have would be awesome!

 11.
Hi everyone! First off I hope this the right place to post this question. I have been asked by my school's museum to photograph all the different artifacts that are on display. One of the big challenges I'm needing help with is with objects in glass display cases. I am allowed to use lighting equipment so no worries on just being able to use available light. They are looking for a stock image and nothing artsy.
My equipment I have:
Canon 50D
Canon 50mm f/1.4
Canon 17-55 f/2.8
Canon 70-200 f/4
Canon 580EX II
1- Alien Bee 800
1- 32x40 Softbox
1- Alien Bee Ringflash
1- Softbox for ringflash (moon unit)
1- 22" 5-in-1 foldable reflector
and my tripod
I hope that I have provided enough adequate information and thanks in advance!

 12.
I was browsing through the latest issue of a local magazine and came across an article about a local summer event that I had photographed. I'm a close friend of the coordinator of the event so I allowed him to use my pictures for the events Facebook page which all had my name in the corner of pictures. Well, this local magazine had taken my picture from the Facebook but had cropped my name off the photo and had given me no credit for the photo or compensation for it. I was totally unaware that the photo was used until I saw it in the issue. Do I have any legal rights here to ask for any sort of compensation since my name was cropped off?

 13.
Hi everyone,
I'm going to be upgrading soon from my 50D to FF. For awhile I had been looking at the 5D MKII but now I'm unsure. Money, I'm limiting to $3000. I shoot roller derby a lot, which is an indoor sport so I'd like something with a good high ISO and good autofocus. I do a lot of portraits, street, weddings, and events. I'm not concerned about weight of the camera or the video capabilities. I'm considering a used 1Ds MKII. But would the 1Ds MKII feel like a downgrade in technology from the 50D: lower ISO limits (not that ever shoot over 2000 because its way too noisy); no Live View(don't use often but good to have); smaller screen; no sensor cleaning; button combos; lesser functions? I love the build quality of 1Ds MKII because I do like to put myself in situations where weather or getting hit by a falling derby girl is a factor. Another thing a like about 1Ds MKII is that the battery grip is already there and the battery does last much longer which is a huge plus. With the 5D MKII I'd be spending more than I'd like to for the grip and batteries. Something that discourages me from the 5D MKII is file size. 21.1 is much larger than the 16.7 of the 1Ds MKII. Shooting as much as I do this will add up to buying more hard drives and more memory cards much sooner.
Things I like about the 1Ds MKII:
Build quality
Battery grip
X-synch at 1/250th sec.(5D MKII is only 1/200th)
Smaller file size(saves money on storage)
Price is about $500-600 less with an extra battery than the 5D MKII
Things I like about the 5D MKII:
Newer technology
Higher ISO capabilites

I'm also going to be upgrading glass as well from my EF-S 17-55 2.8 to a 24-70 2.8L(now regretting the original purchase due to non-FF compatibility which I knew nearly 2yrs ago). I know great glass is the best investment in a system. I've been told I'm a perfectionist by a former photography teacher and I strive to do my best at photography and be as professional as I can to please the client. I hope I've provided enough information for you fine folks to help me with my decision. Any and all help is very much appreciated! Thanks!

 14.
Thanks for the input so far. Another question I need answered on the subject is between the two, being that the 24-70 is an "L" series it would have superior image quality over the 17-55 correct? Just reading reviews, some say that the two are about on par with each other as image quality goes. Can any shed some light on that subject? I like to plan for the future and plan on upgrading one day to a FF but it won't be anytime soon.

 15.
I've been debating and researching and still can't make up my mind. I've narrowed it down to the Canon EF-S 17-55 2.8 and the Canon 24-70 2.8L. I shoot with a Rebel XSi so I have the crop factor to consider. I have the 50 1.4 for portraits and love it. But I'm wanting something that is good for low light because I shoot bands alot and its mostly indoors. So I need a good zoom. I've been approached by a few people asking if I do weddings. I usually decline because I feel I don't have enough experience for that nor do I have good enough equipment as I'm still in the early stages. One thing that is keeping me from deciding is that I shoot 35mm also and I know the EF-S lens will not work on a FF. As for my budget, I have enough for one or the other and nothing more expensive. So if anyone could help me solve this never ending decision I would much appreciate it. I hope I've provided enough info. Thanks!
