  1. Will, if I was you, I will go for the kit lens 18-55 VR which it is a great lens, very sharp and accurate and will pair it with the 70-300 VR. Both are great lenses. I have used both of them and I do not have any doubt they are great lenses. The only problem is that you will have to switch from one to another but as far as quality, I do not have any complaint. Never used the 18-200 VR and I have no doubt it is a great lens if you have enough light to work with, and also, will save you time and specially if you are shooting close to sea water where you will have wind and sand in the air, you may consider not to change lenses to keep your camera sensor away from dirt. That is something to consider very high but as far as quality, and specially if you are shooting very close to subjects, I will pick the 18-55 VR. But again, having two lenses and be chaning them back and forth, is not sometimes the best idea. I personally have the Tamron 18-50 f/2.8 and the 70-300 VR but I do not shoot in the water as you do.
  2. I have a D300, and I would like to buy a f/2.8 lens. According to all reviews I have

read, the Nikon 17-55 is the top of the line but of course, this lens is very

expensive and the Sigma is much cheaper, so, I am trying to get either one of

those two lenses. I have read the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 is a very good lens in compare

to the Nikon 17-55, but I would like to know if somebody have use the other new

Sigma 17-70 and if this lens in compare to its brother 17-50, is either better or

equal. Of course, I am talking about quality, sharpness and CA. The range is

higher and this is not that important if at the end, I decide to go for the 17-50, but

again, is quality what I am looking for. Please advise !!

  3. Have a D300 and I have read a lot of reviews about how to fine tune the lenses, but

    not one has explained :

    - How to do it

    - What to consider when fine tunning a lens

    - How to input information in the fine tunning feature

    - Where to get the information that I should input in the fine tunning feature

    - Etc, etc

Do I need to fine tune every single nikon or non-nikon lens ? I know every single

nikon lens has a signature ID that is already programmed into the CPU of the

D300 that should read that ID so the tunning is automatically set, but I do not

know if this apply for a lens that is not a nikkor lens and if so, how should I tune

up that lens, base on the above questions? Ken Rockwell and Tom Hogan talk

about this but they do not explain in details how to do it. Does anybody has done

this so far and could you share it with me please ? The reason I made this

question is because I am about to buy a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 but not before I found

out if this lens must be fine tune in the D300. I would not like to buy something

that will not work as expected. Have not decide yet if I go for the Tamron or Nikon

17-55 f/2.8 which I do believe, will not have the need to be fine tunned. Please

    advise !!
