these shots are impressive. nice colours and sharpness. the lens must be a winner.

How much do you sharpen in 10D? How much in 40D.
I believe the 40D has stronger filter. Try to use at least +4 on sharpness of 40D if you are using DPP. And as many have advised above please shoot the same subject and same setting.

He does not have Canon system, all Minolta and now Sony system. He's been using Minolta system ever since.
Thanks for all your comments. I will try to play with his system when I get the chance. I tried his flash (an old metz flash) on my Canon system and turned out alright. Perhaps I am not used seeing flash photos from that combination. The A200 + Tamron 17-50 of my friend seems to have results I was expecting.
Have a nice day all.
Cheers

I wouldn't say he does not how to use flash as he has been covering wedding for quite a long time now and I have great respect for his ability.
Cheers

Richard, Steve
Thanks for your responses. I've used the system myself as well and the result is the same. I have borrowed his flash unit and I will use it on my Canon system and see if is the flash or his camera-lens-flash setup.
Thanks again.

Hi
Does anybody have sample of photos taken by A900 + CZ 24-70 2.8 lens with flash?
I have a friend who uses the same setup where I thought I didn't like how the photos came out. His photos using natural light were stunning but when using flash, I just didn't like the result at all.
Thanks

I have a focus confirm adapter also for contax to eos. on my 50 1.7, it is spot on. On the 28 2.8, its focusing is off. it even is telling my camera that a 50 1.8 lens is attached. maybe that is telling the reason but I am not sure and did not bother as I always am using it for the 50 1.7 which is an amazing lens (althoug sigma 50 1.4 gets to be used more).

Or it seems you do not need wider FOV, you can consider also the Tamron 28-75 2.8. I have the Tamron 17-50, sometimes I find it a bit short (50) when doing head and shoulder shots. Although I have other lenses for that purpose so I am keeping the 17-50. :)

-

I thought the Tamron would be 28-75 f/2.8, I am not aware of 24-70. I heard it is a good lens. I do not have it but I have the 17-50 f2.8 which is very good IMO. I suggest that your get the 5D Mk II and 85 1.8 or 70-200 f/4 non IS which will be close to 3 grand.

This one can be used as wired and wireless
Phottix Cleon Wire/Wireless Remote C8
If I hadn't bought the Canon remote switch already, I surely would consider that Phottix. My mate has it and it is working as it should.

How about 40D and Sigma 70-200 2.8? Much cheaper alternative.
Or 40D + 100 f/2?

-

100 2.8 macro.
Not so cheap but very usable in lots of shooting opportunities.

-

Depends on the condition of the used Canon. If it is in mint or excellent condition, then I suggest get it. I had a good offer for a seldom used 7month old Sigma last month (around 240 USD) so I took it. :) Can't get any cheaper than that...

Zeiss 21 2.0 Distagon
16-35L II
500 5.6L
82 1.2L
200 2.0L IS
300 2.8L IS

Good tip JDM :)

You'll be fine with 50 1.4 and as others had mentioned, you might need a wider one. To save a bit of cost, you can add Sigma 30 1.4 instead of going for the 35L. In that way, you will not need to trade your 50 and you have 30. Good luck and hope your wife will have a safe delivery. Cheers.

Lots of people already recommended Tamron 17-50 & Canon 70-300 IS. I have both and very happy with both of them.
Cheers

+1 for Tamron 17-50

I have 40D and the Sigma 30 1.4 (& 50 1.4) but I don't have the 24L.
My copy of Sigma is very sharp at the center starting at 1.4 but not on the edges. I love the colours and background blur and it is my most used lens because it is normally in my camera most of the time (sometimes in 40D, sometimes in 20D).
However, as others said, this is not for FF and there are copies reported with front/back focusing issues.
I suggest try both on the stores before you decide.
Cheers

I am simply out of words.
This is really amazing. I will continue to follow this thread.
Good work Yongfei.

Canon 40D is a fantastic camera (I have one). I agree with what Peter said about 17-55 IS and 70-300 IS. If you cannot afford the 17-55 IS, you can try Tamron 17-50 2.8. This is my most used lens for landscape. It is good for portrait too on the longer FL although I normally use my Sigma 50 1.4 & Canon 100 2.8 macro for portrait.
Good luck.

-

If you can afford the 580EX II, then I suggest get it. If not, then 430EX s a very good flash also ( and it is smaller).
I have both, BTW.
Cheers

I just came back for Istanbul for a 4 day trip. I brought 4 lenses with me but I find that I used Tamron 17-50 2.8 most of the time and then 70-300 IS. I suggest this combination also to you. Also, if you can add 430EX for any situation where you cannot get good shutter speed and good light.

If you set it on the camera, that will be the default when you open the raw file on DPP, thus as Sinh mentioned above, it will save you time if set already the way you like it. You can still change that in DPP as you wish for more control.
