As long as Nikon (Or for that matter any other company) stands behind the product to ensure the quality, in my opinion, it does not matter where the product is designed, manufactured or tested. I am sure Nikon hires people based on their knowledge and skills (And of course wages-the bottom line).
About the exploitation issue: I believe things have improved a lot in third world countries and these factories are no longer sweatshops. Workers are paid decently. Comparing their wages against North America or Europe won't be fair due to low cost of living in third world countries.

Thanks everybody for their responses.
I have used film SLRs, digital P&S and also DSLR (Oly E-500). Since my budget is rather limited and I do not wish to carry a big body of DSLR, I am looking for something smaller in size which will give me more or less similar IQ as that from entry level DSLR. I have handled NEX-3 and looks good in my hands.
So I guess, if the image quality of NEX-3 is not so different from entry level DSLR, I do not mind other compromises. Thanks again

Hello
I know this would seem to be a comparison of apples against oranges. But let me put forward my requirements if they can help.
I am contemplating buying an entry level DSLR (Budget $500-$600 USD or equivalent). I went through Canon & Nikon entry level models. I also looked at EVIL cameras. I liked SOny NEX-3.
I shoot landscape, portraits, children, candid street photography etc.
Looking at NEX-3, I thought I would get similar image quality (Same APS-C sensor) as entry level DSLR with a smaller camera.
My question is: Will I lose/gain (Compared to entry level DSLR) anything if I buy NEX-3? I know it's not a substitute for a high end DSLR.
Thanks in advance,

Hi
I donated my Yashica camera and 50mm/f1.9 and 70-200 lens outfit (And CS-140 flash) in a pro camera bag to a local school for their fall photography classes. Does that qualify me to get Balda Baldamatic I rangefinder from you? If not, I have a Kodak Brownie Bullet classic camera which I can offer to any interested PN member.
TIA

Great idea!
I donated my Yashica camera and 50mm/f1.9 and 70-200 lens outfit (And CS-140 flash) in a pro camera bag to a local school for their fall photography classes. Does that qualify me to get something from PN members who want to participate in this movement? Well, right now I am looking for 58mm CPL filter.

Hi
I am currently in USA & planning to return to India in Sept 2009. I have used B&W film (Both D-76 and C-41) with decent results. I plan to continue my B&W film photography back in India. Can any PN member living in Pune/Bangalore suggest me good labs which develop traditional as well as C-41 B&W films? What is approximate cost of processing each roll? I have made some inquiries and found that buying B&W films is incresingly difficult in India, so planning to buy them here in bulk. Which ones should I buy, C-41 (BW400CN) or D-76 (Tri-X/Neopan/T_Max etc.)? Can one get all the chemicals/supplies easily if one decides to set up one's own darkroom?

Any inputs appreciated.

Thanks
