Congratulations Salvadore this is a lovely portrait the lighting and the sitters expression are perfect, however if I may suggest the composition could be improved by cropping off the top of the frame to just above her head and cropping off the bottom of the frame to just above her hands to get rid of that distracting pink piece of cloth and her cut off hands to concentrate the image and make it a horizontal picture rather than a vertical one.

I'm impressed Jeff, the control of the low key lighting ratio of about 3:1 is just right for a male portrait. The composition is well balanced and triangular with your gaze on your fretting hand which also gives the shot some dynamism, very well done, much better than I have ever done of myself.

I know it's natural light but the lighting is too flat and not producing any modelling in the face I also find the composition too symmetrical with both her eyes on the same level it would be better if her nearest eye was in the middle of the frame and her head tilted a little to her right making the picture much more dynamic

I teach photographic portraiture at a college Irina and this shot is as near perfect as far as lighting, composition and the sitters expression is concerned. I particularly like the way the lighting has been handled so that it casts her nose shadow away from her upper lip and that even on the shadow side of her face you have retained the catch light in her eye. Congratulations Irina this is top quality work.

I like the unusual low key lighting for this type of subject, but I do think the composition could be improved by cropping some of the empty space above the mothers head.

Congratulations Ulla this is a very beautiful portrait of a lovely woman the soft lighting is perfect for the subject and shows just the right amount of shadow detail to produce modelling of the sitters head to give it form and shape, my only criticism is that of the composition, the models eyes are far too low in the frame ( they should be in the top third ) but this can easily remedied by cropping the top of the picture to a little above her head. Try it I'm sure you will agree that it improves it and concentrates the image.

At last, a high key portrait shot by someone who knows how, because I see so many poorly executed attempts by people who don't really know what the term means congratulations Colin this is very competent work.

Renee is a very beautiful girl Russell that although competently photographed I feel could have been improved be using a reflector to the sitters right to bounce some more light into her eyes and make the catch-lights brighter and generally illuminate the models eye sockets.
-
This is a really fine monochrome head and shoulders portrait, the composition with the sitters head angled to the left of the frame and the space on the right of the frame to balance the composition in the direction the top of her nearest arm is pointing is perfect, she has beautiful eyes and a good expression and her skin tone is good and it has a bloom to it .The lighting is soft and subtle isn't too contrasty for a female portrait and puts her nose shadow in exactly the right place. Congratulations, I teach portrait photography and would be proud to have taken this.

I don't agree about "the eye peeping out" Thomas, this isn't a portrait of the model but a fashion shot where the most important thing is the clothes she is wearing.

I feel incapable of offering any criticism of this heart rending image Scott just to me it's a wonderful photograph having myself once having been a marine who has lost many dear friends in combat who I often think about know how you feel, and send you my sincere best wishes.

I teach portrait photography at a local college and I have no criticism of this photograph the lighting, composition, and exposure are perfect, the ladies skin tones are the lightest tones in the picture drawing the viewers attention to her body, and the general balance of the tones in the whole picture of her pants the background and her skin are excellent. Congratulations Andress this is a very beautiful picture that I'm sure the lady and her family will treasure for many years.

I find the lighting for this portrait very harsh and contrasty much more suitable for a male portrait than that of a middle aged lady, also to my mind the D.O.F. is too shallow it makes her face look like it's floating in space, a smaller aperture would have improved the composition by bringing her necklace and neckline into sharper focus and show more detail in her hair, I also think it would benefit from some backlighting from a grid spot on the back of the head and shoulders to highlight her head and shoulders keeping it's light off the background and stop them from merging into the background.

What a beautiful lady, with lovely eyes and such character in her face who looks to me to be a very capable and strong woman, whose age is hard to believe. great work well done.
-
A very beautiful portrait of a lovely lady that could be perfect I.M.O. if the lower catch lights in her eyes are removed.
-
Generally a competent portrait the exposure , composition and rendering of the sitters skin tones are perfect , but the major fault is in the lighting on the subjects face that causes the models nose shadow to cross her lips and go right down to her chin which is a definate no no in portrait lighting.
-
You need to use some fill in flash or a white reflector Todd to bounce some light into her face and put some catch lights into those dead eyes.
-
I teach portrait photography at a college John and would just like to say congratulations, because from a compositional , lighting and exposure perspective this shot is just about perfect, because.
Composition
The eyes are not both on the same level which adds some dynamism and interest. The light coloured bow in the models hair, and the light tones of her right shoulder make it an excellent diagonal composition, her expression is calm and appealing and the gloss her slightly pursed lips is very attractive
Lighting.
The soft light from a diffused light source on her right (possibly an umbrella) produces modelling in her face and adds to the impression of the roundness of her head and features.
Exposure
The skin tones and perfect and natural looking, the highlights are bright and the shadows are a deep rich black and the overall balance of tones are perfect.
I don't know if you're a pro. but this is professional quality work, well done.

Compositionally the sitters nose in a portrait should never be allowed the break the line of the cheek.

It's a good shot that I can't help thinking would be better in black and white.
