Thanks Stephen and Amitai, I really appreciate constructive input like this, particularly from such good photographers. I am a huge B&W fan so I will certainly try it, I started with colour because the delicacy of the duck-egg blues was beautiful against the snow. On balance I agree about the poles and the burnt out patch is indeed not pleasant (I think I will first try some localised burning/curves or recovery in RAW as a crop might spoil the balance to my eye). The post-production work is effective in focussing the eye on this beautiful composition, although the black space top right gives a bit of an articicial feel as the light is coming from that direction on to the screen. Still a great picture though; it's the naughty look and grubby face that's the icing on the cake for me.

A simple and effective composition and beautiful tones. I'd have given it a 7 were it not for what looks like posterisation in the sky.
