Thanks to all that provided input. I think at this point I am just going to drag my heels for a bit before making any new purchases. If anything I may just pick up a new Canon wide angle zoom. Probably the 16-35L. I have a real estate deal that needs to happen before I buy too much. Happy New Year to all!

Thanks Mark, my biggest complaint with my current 1d Mark iii is noise. I hate noise. I don't like to shoot over ISO 400 with it. I also crop my shots a lot because I don't get as close as I would like to with my current lenses. So I think I would like more MP's for this reason. I dream of a 1d X Mark ii but I don't like the price and it has so much that I don't think I need. Video, GPS, etc.

A good point Peter. I should consider buying used. I have always purchased new with the exception of one old 8mp body. When I see a nice used canon " L " lens for sale I always wonder if it's a bad copy someone is trying to unload. When spending in the $1,000's it's assuring to have a warranty. A member of our club is selling all of his canon gear which is why I started this post. He has many of the same lenses I already have. One I was considering was a 16-35mm. I'm sure he took good care of it but it is the first version. Do I want to spend $750 on it? I'm leaning towards no.

I just returned home and I am happy to see all the responses. They are very good and interesting. I guess I could have included a little more info. My passion is wildlife/nature photography but I would like to start taking more landscapes. My old body is the 1d Mark iii. My longest lens is the 100-400L old push-pull version and my shortest the 24-70L 2.8. My wish for lenses would be to add to each end of the spectrum. One wider and another longer, preferably a prime. I would also like a FF for my next body with more MP. I like the 1d body because of its heavy duty construction. I'm not too nice to my equipment sometimes. I don't see myself going mirrorless anytime soon with help from these posts. I guess I will just slowly keep building on what I have started.

They have mentioned the bulk, weight, and comparable IQ. We are a small club in western NY with less than 30 members. I was anticipating some expensive upgrades to my Canon collection in this new year but I am now hesitant. I am shooting with a 10mp body that is probably 8 yrs. old. I was also considering one or two new "L" lenses. I have been published a few times but sell very few images. It is pretty much just an expensive hobby for me. I don't want to have a pile of equipment with no value down the road. I was just hoping to get some feedback from a larger group of photogs. Thanks Howard.

I belong to a photography club in one of the New England states. A couple of our longtime members are selling all of their Canon equipment and have started shooting with Sony's. They are two of our best photographers in the club. This seems a bit shocking to me. Is Sony's IQ that much better? Is there a trend in this direction? I love my Canon equipment and I am just trying to figure this out.

I am using the AI Servo mode. I also have the 100-400 L IS USM but the 70-200 L IS II USM seems to have more trouble or hunt more. I was aware of the focus problems with this body when I purchased it. I bought a model after the fix was made and requested a serial number after the fix. Firmware is fairly current. The latest two updates didn't sound like they were anything I had to have. I will try using just the center focus point. I almost always use a single focus point but rarely the center point. I will also try taking it out of AI Servo mode. I guess I will feel better if it is something I have to live with, rather than a problem with my equipment. Thanks for the replies!

Hi, I am using Canon's new 70-200L f2.8 II lens and am having trouble with the AF. AF can't seem to " lock on ". It seems to do a lot of hunting or surging compared to my other Canon lenses. I normally shoot in the Tv mode for moving wildlife. I sometimes use the 1.4X but I think the problem is there regardless. My body is the 1D Mark III. Any advice for this problem? Thanks!

I shot my first two this year in central NY. I had fun although it is challenging trying to get photos that look authentic. At the first one the Yankee canons where lined up with a blacktop road behind them with occasional traffic. On the other side of the battle field was a playground and a modern metal fence in the background. Re-enactors were smiling during the battle. I'm sure they were having fun but it makes for bad pictures. I would have a hard time not smiling while having fun myself. Candid shots in the camp before the battle were more successful for me. Instead of B&W I used a Lightroom preset. I think it was Color Creative Aged Photo. See more @: www.flxcaptured.artistwebsites.com

Thanks Charles. This will help. I would not give her exclusivity as the two she is interested in are my most popular. I will probably scare her with any figure. I'm not sure she wants to pay anything, but I can't give them away.

Hi,
I have a fiber artist wanting to use two of my photos for her art work. She recreates using fibers that she dyes herself. She would like my permission to use my photos. I am reluctant to allow this and don't think I should do it without a fee. I have heard her cheapest work starts at $2800 US dollars. Should I allow the usage? How much is a fair fee for me? How do I keep it legal or safe?
Thanks!

Thanks for the input guys. My sign board will be about 3'x4'. I'm not sure I can get that shrink wrapped. I was planning on using ink jet prints but from a professional Epson printer with 3k inks. I am thinking of putting a collage on the board or a series of photos.

Hi,
I have a project idea. I would like to adhere some my prints to a piece of sign board for outdoor display. I guess this would be on the same idea of a decoupage. Do any of you have any experience with doing this? I am looking for instructions. Thank you!

Can't help you with location. Never shot there. Here is a good web site for times of the sun and moon. http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=179&month=1&year=2010&obj=moon&afl=-12&day=1
My advice is get there plenty early. Sometimes the best shots are before sunrise. Good luck!

Hi,
I'm looking at a 500mm FD lens to use on my EOS 1d body. I can't afford $6,000 for the monster I really want at this time. Anyone have any experience with this adaption? Is it a good idea or should I wait and save the money toward the EOS model?

Anyone ever used the Omega FlashFlip FF400 on a 1d body? I have read several good reviews on this bracket but none used with a 1d.

Thanks everyone, I suppose a 1 series would be the safest bet.

Thanks everyone! Jeff you make that 5D sound pretty good. I will keep my eyes open for one of those.

Hi,
I have the EOS 1d Mark III and the 580EX II flash. I would like a spare body in the future but don't want to shell out another $4K. I would like one that can handle all types of bad environments. It would also be nice if controls were similar to the Mark III. What are my options? Thanks!

Looks very nice Jeff! There is lots of improvement but it doesn't look fake (altered) like a lot of normal HDR images I've seen.
Don't know how I entered my last post twice?
